Re: Using Migration Assistant

Many thanks and much appreciated. As it turns out the Adobe apps on the Sierra drive aren¡¯t opening running Mojave as the operating system. I was anticipating such issues in that associated files required for opening may not be, as you noted, in the booting system. Also, I just ordered a Thunderbolt 2 to ethernet adapter based upon your advice as I don¡¯t trust wifi as reliably stable.

I¡¯ve used Migration Assistant many times. ?It¡¯s generally a lot faster than re-installing all the apps and copying over file, creating preferences, etc. ?But it has a couple of things to look out for. ?It seems very sensitive to the connection between the two Mac, and I¡¯ve had it simply stop working, so make sure you use a stable connection. ?
I¡¯ve had it report, more than once, that it cannot copy over a file because it has an invalid name. ?My assumption is that the newer operating system did not allow a particular name that the older system did. ?It was obvious what was not copied and I was able to just re-install that.?
As noted, there may be some apps that worked in Sierra that won¡¯t work in Mojave, for a reason other than not being 64 bit. ?If you use the above noted method to test, you might see the icon of the app has a line through it, telling you it can¡¯t be run. ?Even if it doesn¡¯t have the line, there will be some that won¡¯t run because they have to be in the Applications directory of the system you are running.
