Yep. The same dog, different leg action to the Teflon
ones I described on Ebay. You can also find them much
cheaper on Ailexpress. I've also previously bought and
used the style that Scott mentioned, from Ebay and they
are excellent. However, the ones of that style on Ebay at
present, are made of ABS plastic, so I would not go with
them.
The good ones are;
Ebay Item? 133455618357
Aliexpress Item 1005007583822381
Simply hard wire the amplifier end of the HV wire into
the amp through a clearance insulator and have the socket
mounted on the rear panel of the power supply. If the plug
gets pulled out when the HV is on, which is unlikely, as
the connectors are a very firm fit, then nobody gets hurt.
That way, you also only need one plug and one socket.
Cheers, Alek VK6APK.

Re: Need advice on HV connectors
Chuck, I was just looking at that A400. I didn't look for a price sheet yet (don't need one now). Does anyone know? how to compare the factory HV plug on the back of my Henry 2K-3 desk model to these Alden's? In other words, somewhat equivalent? Thanks, Bob W4JFA

Re: Need advice on HV connectors
Jack originally built this amp and power supply using Millen connectors on one end.? I'm familiar with them.? I've had a couple of Drake amps and Drake used the Millen connector on them.? That connector always looked sort of iffy to me.? I go tangled up with some HV Just once.? That was more than enough for me and I'm REAL careful when it comes to this.?
?
To use the Millen on the other end, I'll have to do some rear apron work on the amp deck.? I'd almost rather use the BNC style connectors that I've seen because it carries a braid around the HV line and if it decides to short or fail, it SHOULD go to ground and dump the PS fuses.
Any thoughts about that?? I like the look of those SHV connectors.

However, there were numerous others shown on that site as "you

of those seemed to be coming directly from china whereas all of
the lower voltage, 3500-volt ones, were US/Canadian sellers. The
little pamphlet-manual that came with mine, however, says
"50V-3700V". "[Adjustable output current] 50uA - 5 mA". And to
avoid any possible conflict with whomever named "Alligator clips"
alligator clips, these people call their clips "crocodile clips"?
8-D I do have a minor beef with these units, however: the top
panel has two adjustments: voltage, and current. Both are little
screwdriver-adjust pots, with slots too narrow for a coin to fit
into when you're at the swap meet; you'll have to stick the tooth
of an auto key into the slot in order to adjust the pots. I've
turned mine on, but have not yet hipotted (zapped) anything.
We now return you to our regularly-scheduled programming of "What
To Use As A HV Connector??" 8-)

With that little 3.5kV one, you would immediately be able to
determine if an unknown tube you are thinking of buying at a
hamfest was worth the risk, so I guess it's horses for courses.
I have one on my watch list for possible future purchase.

recently were told about a 3500 volt Hipot tester available on

for some reason, seem rated to 3800 volts instead). 3500V
isn't quite enough for what the OP wants/needs (he wanted at
least 5 kV); but it reminded me that 3 or 4 years back, I was
building a 10+ kV Hipot tester and thought I would use a neon
sign transformer. However, those I found on epay were not only
old and relatively-decrepit-looking, the sellers also wanted
either both arms and a leg or both legs. For some reason, I
did a search on epay for "Hipot tester" and lo and behold: a
bunch of sellers were marketing 10+ kV, very-low current
adjustable power supplies in the $25-$35 range. I bought
one... it's a PC board about 4" by 1-1/2" with a switching
inductor or transformer on it and runs from 12VDC. You have to
wire a pot to the board to get the adjustable output,
completely adjustable from zero to over 12 kV DC at at least a
couple mils, far more than enough for a Hipot tester. Even has
short-circuit protection 8-)
I would strongly suggest a Hipot tester be used to confirm
the HV integrity of any cables or connectors. You can,
obviously, also use it to hipot your old tubes, vacuum
variables, and vacuum relays 8-)

These are harder to get these days as they seem to have fallen
