Re: Networking a selection of Hercules systems running VM/370rel6

Hello!
I agree with the second, not so sure about the first. And I looked at
the website that Dave M, supplied earlier, (or was it one of his cats
who typed it? Or perhaps it was one of his other staff, and their
cats?) However at the moment setting things up along with that site is
currently a little beyond me. But setting up that example you cited,
that looks promising.

There is a software package that is already part of VM/CE called XNET. This software allows two or more VM/370 systems to connect via a CTC device (using Hercules CTCE, not CTCI), and you can then remotely logon to and use the VM system(s) on the other end of the CTCs, and vice versa. Communication can even pass through multiple VM systems to your target system if they are all connected via CTC. This software is something akin to PVM (Passthrough VM, an IBM product from the period).

But to send files or messages between VM systems, you'll need the RSCS NJE modifications.

Bob
