RV4 at Shelby
3
I met the builder/owner of this RV4 today in Shelby . Super interesting IA who's helped build at least 6 RVs (?). He does aerobatics in it . Evidently, it won an award at Sun-n-fun after it was completed, years ago. Tim H.

What a day! A job well done! Almost ready for Airplanes in the museum hangar!
Begin forwarded message: From: Alex Nelon <alex.nelon@...> Subject: What a day! A job well done! Almost ready for Airplanes in the museum hangar! Date: April 26, 2025 at 10:37:18 PM EDT The last hangar door is up! Thank you, all who were there. 14 of us managed to complete the initial part of the job in record time - just under 3 hours - and all that is left is the weather stripping and holdbacks so they don¡¯t drift open while airplanes are being moved in and out. Dan topside, Dennis at the bottom, Bill watching (they also serve who gaze in wonder), Jerry sweeping (they also serve, etc), Pete in the background doing something (?). Tim A explaining the finer points of floor sweeping. Management is essential. Placement of bottom rollers . . . everybody got into the act. This door went really smoothly . . . a great crew makes the work flow right along. Ed and the paramotor club installed weather stripping all morning and will be back to do what they can this week (we may need more material) ¡ There¡¯s still some basic cleanup to do but we¡¯re just about ready for the first airplanes to come home! The next big step is paving a taxiway from the apron on the NW end of the Museum hangar to the museum taxiway ¡ that is supposed to start late next week and should, if all goes according to plan, be ready for use about 2 weeks from now. A few hours with friends, doing something really worthwhile, beats the heck out of going to car shows or flying jets (you KNOW who you are). Thank you .. Thank you .. Thank You, all who were there and all who have been there all along in this project. Your just showing up means a lot . . . a LOT. -Alex and Mark

The Last Hangar Door! Saturday Start 9:30-10
Gents, we're at the end! One door to go. With all our newly-acquired expertise we should be able to knock this one out in under 3 hours. Plus Dan Field will have a place to put his airplane! After cleanup and a new asphalt taxiway to connect the museum side of the hangar to the museum's taxiway, we'll have a really nice facility - better than before. Hope to see you there . . . if you've been bringing tools, please bring them again. Most of the manpower effort will be early, leaving the hinges and bottom roller installation to a few. We might start the cleanup, breaking down shipping pallets, etc for the burn pile and collecting all the metal bits, screws, etc before our tires do. Thank you again for tackling this project .. it's been a fun education. All the best alex

Anti skid stuff?

Would anyone have some decent quality Anti skid stuff with self adhesive properties? I need two pieces for the steps, each one about 2x3 inches. Take care, Tim H.

Today
Only one more door to go and we¡¯ll see planes there very soon, thanks to a very dedicated volunteer group.

Avionics have arrived
5
I am rebuilding my 182p after Helene. I had dual G5s and the gfc-500 autopilot but the rest of the panel was showing its age. KX-155 nav/com, GNS-430w gps, PMA 6000 (mono) audio panel, and an inop KT-78 transponder. After getting some eye watering quotes to replace the ancient avionics I had, I did some research and ended up on Approach Fast Stack¡¯s website. I called them and spoke with Tim several times and after talking with my IA I pulled the trigger. I ended up with the ifr flyaway package. They deleted the gmu-11 since mine was in the wing and fine and they added the autopilot harness and a serial connection for the engine monitor at no added cost. I gained an oat sensor so I can get true airspeed along with ads-b in and out via the gtx-375. And all of the wiring for the avionics will be completely new. Really happy with the kit so far. The wiring harness is very well done and the documentation that came with it shows every connector and pin and what I need to interface the harness with the airframe. I¡¯m somewhat regretting the Garmin audio panel. It doesn¡¯t feel as nice as the ps engineering unit but it does have stereo along with Bluetooth and a usb charger. Weirdly enough the GTR-205 also has Bluetooth and a somewhat iPod like interface. There is still a lot of work left in this kit to do. I¡¯m guessing at least 40 hours to pull the old harness and install this one and a blanking plate in the radio stack. After this is replacing the engine gauges with a JPI-900. Then hopefully replacing the old plastic panel with a custom aluminum one. With any luck I¡¯ll get my engine back this year. Apparently the case shops are backed up and are months and months out. We will see. It¡¯s been three months so far. Pics show the harness, wiring diagram, and the GNC-215 vs KX-155.

Wednesday work crew
7
Good evening , The winds look to be pretty low on Wednesday. If we can get enough bodies, I would like to attempt hanging door #6. I know it will probably be raining, but we are working indoors on the doors ! If the required number of personnel don't show up, we can still accomplish lots of detail work, such as putting on weatherstripping and gap seals. Please let me know if you can make it. We only have two doors left to hang....... the end is in sight. Mark

Anyone know what these are?
12
I¡¯ve had these machine tool parts for about 10 years now. I got them from a machinist that went to a nursing home and never got to ask him what they were. They¡¯re marked with common thread sizes but the actual pitch is half of what they are labeled as. All I can think is they¡¯re for a screw cutting operation on a lathe that doesn¡¯t have screw gears? There are no makers marks on the parts or the box other than the latch says Prestolock Co. They seem to be very well made.

New Tug Concept
10
Thought you guys, specifically Mark, might enjoy seeing this new tug concept. This company has converted their electric wheelbarrow to a tug. The cost is roughly $1,150 for the tug version, but there is a cheaper version that might be easy to modify. Link: https://chorewarrior.com/product/chore-warrior-airplane-spotter/ The code ¡°tug¡± will save you $100 if anyone is interested in purchasing.

Saturday Progress

Today was a great day. The winds were very light and we had a terrific crew that operated like a well oiled machine ! We were able to get two doors hung. The last one functioned perfectly with no tweaks required. Only two more to go ! There is still lots of detail work to accomplish, so I'm hoping we can get some help during the week. Please let me know if you have any time this coming week. A very BIG Thankyou to those who worked today. Mark
