Re: WakeyLeaks and The-Bridge
Rob, Vagner, Sean,
Do you think all efforts have been exhausted in trying to reform the current WF news???Not that I want to take a one person, in person, delegation to them about their enforcement of list rules, I would let it go if I am the only one.
I think discussion with the Admins has all been via email so far right?? If so, it's not the best medium for dispute resolution, I don't think.? All three of you seem sure that they are incorrigible.? I do not know them at all, never met either of them so I have no image of what they are like.? The rest of you all know them, I presume? bye for now, edythe

Hi guys,
I want to use WakeyLeaks as our private planning platform. Please keep these shared ideas within this group until we lauanch a public forum.
We can discuss strategies, draft joint communiques and stage campaigns here.
I have set-up?The-Bridge for an open public platform for community members. I have rough drafts for launch materials (invitation, mailing list, scope of forum and its complemetary relationship to WFN, code of conduct, guidlines for posting & reporting...)
So many things are happening in the big scary world that members want to share - we need a space for our voices. I hope to move quickly and launch soon.
Let me know what you think - and what commitments you can consider for the launch or for ongoing operations. We will need a team of repesentative (rotating?) moderators - men & women - to keep it going I am willing to spend time on this - but it must be a group thing not an individual thing for the community, of the community & by the community to thrive - that will mean some work to get it going and keep it running I will park my satire and ego in another place - maybe my own WakeyLeaks podcast - so I don't pollute the community forum with any negativity that I may be perceievd as displaying.

Re: WakeyLeaks and The-Bridge
We have to build our own community to give voice to those
people who want to engage in topics not allowed on WTF News - not just for our
voices or our plight ¨C it is their voices and their plight that we must keep in
mind.?
The larger WE need a safe space to discuss ¨C dialogue ¨C
read ¨C respond ¨C even argue ¨C in a civil manner.? We must try to build that space and it will
grow or not based on the community not our wishes.
We also cannot join WTF News under their censorship.? We would always be under their thumb.
I WANT TO REMIND MYSELF WHY I¡¯M BOTHERING WITH THIS:
People
were discussing the genocide in Gaza when a broad brush painted (not
just Ramez) but anyone who posted about that global horror as people ¡°stoking
the flames of anti-Semitic hatred.¡±? That
was the vague libelous condemnation that started all of this.
Later we
were told NOT to speak about:
- Religion
- Gender Topics
- Abortion
- Transgender Issues
- All the various wars around the world
- American politics
- Canadian politics
- Gun rights
- Environmental issues
- Animal rights/Veganism
There are people who do want to speak and listen, share and
learn about these issues in a civil manner.
To silence these topics is censorship ¨C and there is
too much of that happening these days.? I
will never agree to the censorship policy of WTF News ¨C and that policy cannot
be justified by a simple majority or poll ¨C free speech must be guaranteed to
minority voices.
If you examined every single post on WFT News you¡¯d find that
many would not be supported by a majority but that¡¯s not the point ¨C you can¡¯t
censor-by-numbers and pretend that it is not censorship.
900 vs.100? We need to be realistic ¨C we currently do not
know how many of those 900 people on WTF News read or like anything that we
have to say ¨C for argument¡¯s sake, let¡¯s say it is 100 ¨C just because we were
publishing in a population of 900 we were only really communicating with a
portion of that number.? We are already a
bubble within a bubble.?
BUT I¡¯D RATHER CONVERSE AND LISTEN TO THOSE 100 THAN TO BE
TOTALLY SILENCED AND TO HAVE THEIR VOICES TOTALLY SILENCED.
I believe that we can build a platform to serve that
community and that is our challenge.

Re: WakeyLeaks and The-Bridge
It may well be that it never gets to that level - it is the interested members of the community that will decide the numbers and that will tell us what our true popularity is (if that's important?to you) and we'd have to be realistic about that membership number. But just because we post in a pool of 900 doesn't mean that your/our readership?is 900 - anyway if you can't post freely then what?value doe this number?900 mean? Maybe there will be more younger and newer residents who will join - I know many who don't bother with WTF News? In the end for me it's about the freedom of the topics and giving voice to others -? these are qualities not quantities

Hi guys,
I want to use WakeyLeaks as our private planning platform.
Let me what you want to do.?

Re: A peaceful approach to building a new bridge
Hi Rob,
I think your anger is completely justified but your effort to rethink how to proceed without it dominating is a good decision.? Witty sarcasm is fun, to vent some frustration with like minded people, like us, but doesn't help bridge things with those who disagree.??
Wakefield Covered Bridge is nice, it sounds inclusive, like sheltering under a big umbrella, open to all.? Wakefield in the world . . .? not Wakefield in the Outaouais.? ?
I don't know if he posted it, but my neighbour read me a sarcastic response he wrote re someone's post to the WF news decrying rising local taxes.? Reading it to me was fine, I laughed, but I told him I didn't think he should post it.??
bye for now, edythe

I don't think that posting/mirroring WF News will help to bring more members into the forum. I have considered a different name for the forum Wakefield-Covered-Bridge. It is symbolic and more positive and appealing.? It will "cover" topics outside the scope of WF News to act as a complement to that group and serve community members.
I wish we could have all these discussions in one place but I do not think that that will happen. I will reserve my satire/sarcasm for another arena - maybe my podcast where I can interview residents and present poetry investigating issues of social justice. The WakeyLeaks name was fun but not the best choice for a wider audience.

Re: A peaceful approach to building a new bridge
Hi guys,
Let me know what you think.
We can launch with a good name (I think this is pretty good) and later have a naming contest by polling members - a good way to get some engagement
