Re: Grrrr

Back to this:
What if you choke it at the feed point, ground the shield where it enters the building & choke it the antenna switch?

Is the RFI getting into the computator and/or other equipment?

How about building a Faraday cage around the impacted?equipment? Kinda like a mini screen room out of copper screen.

One of those kept me from getting zapped by a giant Tesla coil. My parents were freaking out.

If there were a budget that included both expenses and income, ?many of us would join together to fund it. As it is now, we have no idea how much has been collected and where that money was spent. It is a puzzle to me that when we collect fees at the end of the year, why we are out of money in January when we should have cash on hand. We need to know how many new members we need. If Keith’s $300 per month is right, it seems we need eighteen $200 dollar subscriptions to fund it….I thought we had more than that.

At any rate, we need a solution.? It is driving Keith crazy, and we going to ?lose what ?following we have as W7DXX is put in the “never ending pleas for money” file along with politicians and hundreds of others.

Oh, by the way, when in QSO, I have often started to say ”this is a remote station W7DXX in NM and I am operating from my home near Chicago.” Especially if you just won a pile-up, this should stir-up interest.

As they say “Make a plan…..Do the plan”??? We need a plan.

Of course I agree, same few people step up and bail us out.? Keep in
mind, I make up any expenses by myself each month. I had quoted
you our FIXED monthly operating costs at $200. This figure does not
include parts, maintenance, new equipment, etc. Realistically, that is
running about $100 a month. Then too, I bought the KRC-2, parts for the
coax relay. (~150) I reduced monthly expenses by switching to a new ISP,
but, install fees, first month service added up to almost $200. I bought
antenna parts. ($200)? There is around %550 extra in just one month.
True, an extraordinary month for expenses.? Turns out, I discovered this
only yesterday, the UPS needs a new battery again. (I thought I bought
one a few months ago)

Need a couple of folks interested in "group" contesting on the remote

One of the problems with "group" contesting involves generating and using a "common" log in "real time."? Having a common log allows us to avoid "dupes" and gives everyone a quick view of how the "contest" is going.

Over the years I've used N1MM Logger in contests as well as on Dxpeditions - it's pretty much become the "defacto" logger software for those endeavors.? One of the neat features of the software is that it provides for "networking" a number of computers - and - when networked, it provides a real-time common log.

I'm NOT a network guy - far from it - but - have played with networking in this context and encountered all the aggravation involved in "port forwarding" across various WAN's and using multiple modems, etc - it's VERY frustrating - so much so, that I'd given up - well, until now!

The N1MM Logger+ group recently did a Zoom meeting about using a VPN (virtual private network) to accomplish networking computers which are physically located in different locations.? The VPN software that is used is Logmein Hamachi (??) If you're a "gamer" or your children or grandchildren are, this might be familiar - apparently it's used by lots of Minecraft and other multi-user gamers.? The beauty of this software is that it eliminates all the problems of port forwarding, etc.

Now, here's what I'm trying (going) to do:

1.? Use logmein hamachi VPN to network computers.
2.? Use N1MM Logger+ software in network mode.
3.? Have several operators connect to the W7DXX remote for a contest.

Apparently there are several contest groups already doing this and have been doing it for quite a while - and - you may already be a member of one of these groups - or - already know how to do this.

I'm attaching a PDF document from the N1MM group that deals with this as well as the following link to the Zoom meeting in case you want to review it.

Please let me know if you're interested either by responding through our group or directly to me at:? n4hh@....? I'm hoping we can use Zoom to chat about this and share screens where appropriate.

Thanks - happy Earth Day - '73 es gud dxing -- Don N4HH?
