One of the problems with "group" contesting involves generating and using a "common" log in "real time."? Having a common log allows us to avoid "dupes" and gives everyone a quick view of how the "contest" is going.
Over the years I've used N1MM Logger in contests as well as on Dxpeditions - it's pretty much become the "defacto" logger software for those endeavors.? One of the neat features of the software is that it provides for "networking" a number of computers - and - when networked, it provides a real-time common log.
I'm NOT a network guy - far from it - but - have played with networking in this context and encountered all the aggravation involved in "port forwarding" across various WAN's and using multiple modems, etc - it's VERY frustrating - so much so, that I'd given up - well, until now!
The N1MM Logger+ group recently did a Zoom meeting about using a VPN (virtual private network) to accomplish networking computers which are physically located in different locations.? The VPN software that is used is Logmein Hamachi (??) If you're a "gamer" or your children or grandchildren are, this might be familiar - apparently it's used by lots of Minecraft and other multi-user gamers.? The beauty of this software is that it eliminates all the problems of port forwarding, etc.
Now, here's what I'm trying (going) to do:
1.? Use logmein hamachi VPN to network computers.
2.? Use N1MM Logger+ software in network mode.
3.? Have several operators connect to the W7DXX remote for a contest.
Apparently there are several contest groups already doing this and have been doing it for quite a while - and - you may already be a member of one of these groups - or - already know how to do this.
I'm attaching a PDF document from the N1MM group that deals with this as well as the following link to the Zoom meeting in case you want to review it.
Please let me know if you're interested either by responding through our group or directly to me at:? n4hh@....? I'm hoping we can use Zoom to chat about this and share screens where appropriate.
