Declination cable comes loose on spool

Occasionally the declination cable comes loose and unwinds from the spool drive. ?I have installed the cable stop made by?
Markless Astronomics and piece a piece of Gorilla tape that has minimized the problem. ?In addition I try to remember not to release the cable tension when transporting the scope. ?Any other suggestions? ?It only takes about 15 minutes to recoil the cable and repeat my alignment but it is an inconvenience that would be nice to avoid.

Mike,?

The cable stop - has it eliminated the issue??

If not please send a picture of the cable wrapped around the drive roller when disengaged and a 2nd picture when engaged. Also a picture of the spring/lever when engaged.?

When you travel it is highly recommended you engage the ALT axis and it is required that you disengage the AZ axis.?

ps: no "tape" should be necessary!?

Gary,

Thanks for the quick response. ?I attached two pictures. ?The cable stop hardware has minimized the problem but not stopped it. ?The one question i have is the spool is not located directly under the declination rocker. I was concerned that sliding it too far off the drive shaft might create a problem with torque or securing it.

Mike

The drive cable is wound the wrong way! The end going up should be closest to the mirror box. Must be a real pain trying to 'thread' that up in there as is.?

Also - indeed the drive roller is over quite a bit. The mirror 'stop' Teflon pad I can see - is there one on both sides? If not I'd consider moving that to the other side to keep the mirror box more to towards the motor. You could move the drive roller a bit more outward but this being a Junior motor the motor shaft isn't designed for too much overhang load. So lets concentrated on the mirror box position, which, seems to be pushed away?too far
?

Gary,

I attached a picture after making the adjustments. ?To shift the mirror box i adjusted both the teflon pads on the lateral surface of rocker arms and the pads on the inside of the rocker box that come ?into contact with the mirror box. In addition I had to move the spool 1/16¡¯ inch to achieve the best alignment. ?Previously when spool turned, the cable would be forced laterally and be pulled across the other loops of cable. ?Hopefully this adjustment will solve my problem.

the cable, in the form of 2 wraps (3 turns) by design will "screw" itself along the surface as you go up and then the opposite direction when you go down. The dams at the end of the flat surface are there (and critical) to allow the cable to enlarge when they get to the end - and thus 'slip' back in to place instead of locking at the ends (which would damage the cable!). Over a few up/down cycles the cable will end up near the center of travel when mid way (~ 45¡ã).?

Mike, with the changes in place I do see that you are now properly working. Good to know. Have fun!?
