Locked Re: Fairing installation, turn signal stalk bits

Are you sure about that? I just replaced a bent stalk on my '74 and needed the longer one for the "S" bike to accommodate the fairing.
See below form Boxer 2 Valve

Locked Re: Fairing installation, turn signal stalk bits

One more thing I remember, there are two lengths of turn signal stalks. The shorter ones are for the R90S and make it easier to get the fairing on without cracking it. At the time I restored my bike in 2009, I could only find the longer ones, maybe short ones are available now, I don¡¯t know. The longer ones work ok with a little extra care when installing the fairing. I don¡¯t know if this is an issue for you.

Thanks Jerry that¡¯s very helpful. My bike seems to be missing the 3-4mm thick 14mm ID chrome washers/spacers (part#6) but I¡¯ll get something suitable now that I know where they go.
I became a VBMWMO member earlier this year and am glad to see this helpful post.

I just looked at mine and 9 is on the inside and presses on the larger part of the stalk. I assume 7 and 8 are on that side too. With the outside parts and the turn signal body (I have the metal ones) pressed tightly inwards it seems to stay on ok. I may or may not have put mine together correctly but it hasn¡¯t come loose or fallen off. Yet.

My 75 once started unless the temperature is very cold can return the enrichment circuit to off. You might enrich your idle screws a bit and see if that helps.
Sorry for late reply.

I¡¯m confused by the parts that go on the turn signal stalks. Specifically the ¡°cap¡± part#9 on the fiche that has a U-shaped opening. The rubber ring (washer) part#7 that mates with the eccentric rubber bushing part# 8 should go up against this cap inboard of the fairing shell. However I see no mechanism to retain the cap and prevent it¡¯s falling off the turn signal stalk. The fairing mounting instructions do not address this issue.
Friction between the outer edge of the rubber ring/washer and the inner lip of the cap won't work since the ID of the cap lip is slightly greater than the OD of the rubber ring. Perhaps the rubber ring has shrunk with age? I¡¯ve ordered new ones just in case.
I suppose I could glue the rubber ring/washer to the cap¡even though the mounting instructions do not say to do this.

I hadn't planned to sell it, but if you know somebody in need of a D/O fairing have them PM me. I think it's interesting that yours matches Vendor A's more closely than the other ones. That tends to support my hypothesis.

I think the colors actually match pretty well. Both the replacement fairings were allegedly painted with Glasurit.? The difference seemed to be how much (or little) of the Orange coat was fogged over the base Silver. One thing that was apparent to me when I lined them all up, was that clear coat on the original fairing had "yellowed" over time.

Mine has a bit more of the yellow hue like Vender A. The others appear more orange. Are you selling A?

I've had the Dyna 3 on my 75 DO for 30+ years. It's never failed me. The dyna I ordered fires each cylinder individually, no waste spark. I'd be interested in your removed unit if you're interested in letting it go. Good luck with your new purchase.
