Re: Restore stations in OW

Hi Hristo
Yes, as I wrote in the last sentence, I still see all the stations in OWC. But it looks there is no option to transfer those back to OW.

Re: Restore stations in OW

Hi Stefan,

If you login to OWC and go to this page: and then choose the Save Sites page, do you see your stations?

I use Macrium Reflect and a year or so ago something in an incremental failed. If I had not done weekly clones, it would have been lost. I only do clones now.

Stefan,
?
I feel your pain. I had to go through this a few years ago.
?
"sites" in OW are stored in the windows registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\OccultWatcher\SavedSites
?
if the entries in this location were cleared, I'm afraid that they might be gone.
I occasionally export these entries from the registry to a local file in case I need to restore the sites.

Hristo can provide the best explanation.

Hope this helps.

Re: Incorrect Star field displayed on cloud occultwatcher

Interesting. I think for some reason, the RA, Dec were not passed when I clicked on the star-field stamp on the cloud page. This happened a couple of times with different events, but if it works now, no big deal.?
?
Thanks for checking.

Re: Incorrect Star field displayed on cloud occultwatcher

Hi Kevin,

If you are referring to this field it looks okay to me:

Inline image

If I click on the link () I get the same field and if I click on the green stars I see the correct details which are *not* at (0, 0).

Can you clarify what is wrong?

Re: Synchronization error

Hi Hristo
?
I deleted the Personal directory, but still got the same error message after a sync.
?
However I could fix this issue in the meantime. The trick was to purge the database with a right-click on the Personal feed, like in this example (but here shown on a different feed):
?
?
Before that I purged already the full database (Advanced Options > Maintenance > Purge Database), but only purging the personal feed, as shown above, solved the issue really.

Re: Synchronization error

I wonder if this is a permission issue as usually OW should be installed on the C:\ drive.

Can you try to delete the Personal directory and see if this makes a difference.

Update of the Occultation script for SharpCap

Hello,

I have upload my scripts for the observation of the occultation:

It contains several Python scripts and the Addin for OccultWatcher (OccultWatcher.SC_report.dll).
With all the files, it is possible to simplify the preparation, the observation and the report of the occultations with SharpCap.

In short:
- in OccultWatcher, select a future event and export an observation file (generated from the SODIS template)
- in SharpCap with the Occultation script, import the observation file
- in SharpCap, GOTO and Plate Solve to the target star, show the UCAC4 stars and the target star
perform the LED calibration of a QHY174-GPS camera, set the weather conditions and start the automatic capture of the film

At the correct UTC GPS time, the script will start the capture. In case of no GPS camera, the computer time shall be correct.
At the end of the capture, the script will fill some data in the observation file (weather, begin and end of the capture and exposure time).

For the report, you can reuse this file for the OccultWatcher report or alternative use it directly for the SODIS report.

If you have some ideas for new feature(s) in my script ... please communicate your idea.

Best regards,
Jean-Francois

Re: Synchronization error

Hi Stefan,

Apologies for the delayed response.

It looks like there is a problem with one of the predictions of your Personal feed. I don't know which one but most likely a problem with the generated prediction file.

You could disable the Personal feed, or delete all previous files under C:\Users\Stefan\Documents\Occult Watcher\Personal except for your current one you are trying to import. If this still gives the same error then open the file in Notepad and review it. It should be obvious which prediction has a problem. I suspect that somewhere in the file there will be a 'NaN' string so search for that.

Let me know if this helped.

Hristo.

Re: Multi events export

Hello Dave,

Thanks for the answer.
I tried in OWC to find the menu item "File... Save all paths ..." but I did not find it.

Hello Hristo,

Yes, I can use the search functionality on OWC. It works fine. It lists the potential events. I'm still more the user of OccultWatcher (desktop version).
What I wish is a little more. See the following pictures with an example for the 06.03.2025 where 3 events do not intersect.
As alternative an example where 3 events have a common intersection on the 23.03.2023 ... but with bad weather at that time or I was too lazy.

I select (in Occult Watcher desktop) one event, then click "Google Earth'kmt file". It saves a file and open Google Earth with one trace.
When I select the second event and click again on "Google Earth'kml file", it adds a new trace on the view in Google Earth.
That is fine, but it is a lot of click between 2 software.

The first check is to see quickly if 2, 3 or more traces are near my home location, so that I can consider to travel with my mobile equipment.

Imagine 2 events very near my home (in the 1 sigma zone). If the traces intersect at 90¡ã to each other, then I can find a location to observe both events near my home.
Now if the trace are nearly parallel to each other... then it will be a very long distance to travel to the intersection point.
Now with 3 or more events in the same night, you can combine several traces.

Concerning my skills :
I code a mix of Python and C# (.net). I found a lot of example in C# for the programming of SharpCap script in the IronPython console.
My skills in C#, C++ or C are basic. It was sufficient to code my Addin for OccultWatcher in 2023 for the event preparation for my SharpCap script.
But with long time and a lot of try and errors (most of the time with errors), I can program something see the Occultation script in SharpCap or the UCAC4 stars view in SharpCap.

Best regards,
Jean-Francois

Re: Multi events export

Hi Jean-Francois,

Have you tried to use the search functionality on OWC:

https://cloud.occultwatcher.net/search

It can display multiple good events that match your filter and happen on the same night close to a given center location.

While this is not what you are asking for, it will help you select a mobile location for multiple events. You will be able to view additional parameters of the events when making the decision.

How are your C# and JavaScript programming skills?

Hristo.

Re: Multi events export

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Easy/hard/tedious depends on your programming skills.Your starting point should be straight forward. Open a .kml file with a text editor, and study the content. Keep in mind that each line will need to be drawn at a time. If you have kmz files, change the extension to .zip. Unzip it, and you will get the .kml file to look at.
?
HOWEVER
Occult does have this functionality available. Its in the List & Display form. If you have all the relevant events listed on the form, then you can create the kmz file you are after with a single click - menu item File... Save all paths as GoogleEarth .kmz
?
All you need to sort out is how you are going to incorporate the events on that form. If your starting point is OWC, simply copy the Occultation elements from the OWC page [use the copy button that is provided just above the elements on OWC] for each event of interest to you, and use the menu option File... Paste one or more XML predictions.
