Hi Is there a way to restore or sync the previously defined stations in OW after a new installation? Currently they are empty again (I had about 30 different mobile sites): I still have a backup of the previous installation, but I don't see a file, which contains all the site data. It also looks that in OWC there are all still stored under Welcome > User Profile > Saved Sites, but there is see no option to export/import into OW. Regards, Stefan

Goodmorning, I'm Luca and I'm an astronomy student at Padua University. I've been using this software for an academic study since last April. IN the last month it has started to give me a synchronization error when I run the software. When I switch my windows computer on the software is already running in background and when I open it it takes few minutes for completing the synchronization and then it fail giving the error in the bottom left corner of the screen. I've tried to uninstall and install again the software but it still fail the synchronization. I've also tried to check in the use's manual and they suggest to synchronize manually, but it still failing. The last date I can predict it is around 17/12/2024. I really need this software (or another that let me predict asteroidal and cometary occultations) for an academic research program. Thanks to all of you for your kind help. Best regards Luca

Hello Hristo, I¡¯m thinking to write a small tool for exporting several events at the same time to Google Earth from OccultWatcher (desktop). The idea is to find the best mobile location for several events in one night. Until today, I do the following: - Inspect the list of the events in Occult Watcher and find several events in one night - Export each event to Google Earth with a kml file - In Google Earth look at the intersection of the traces My idea is the generation of one kml file for all the events of one night. So ¡ is the code for the kml file complicated ? Can you distribute it ? Alternative is first to have a quick check in a separate window with all the traces together. Sometimes 4 or 5 events have only ¡°single¡± intersections (where only 2 traces cross together). Best regards, Jean-Francois

Update of the Occultation script for SharpCap
Hello, I have upload my scripts for the observation of the occultation: https://forums.sharpcap.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=8492 It contains several Python scripts and the Addin for OccultWatcher (OccultWatcher.SC_report.dll). With all the files, it is possible to simplify the preparation, the observation and the report of the occultations with SharpCap. In short: - in OccultWatcher, select a future event and export an observation file (generated from the SODIS template) - in SharpCap with the Occultation script, import the observation file - in SharpCap, GOTO and Plate Solve to the target star, show the UCAC4 stars and the target star perform the LED calibration of a QHY174-GPS camera, set the weather conditions and start the automatic capture of the film At the correct UTC GPS time, the script will start the capture. In case of no GPS camera, the computer time shall be correct. At the end of the capture, the script will fill some data in the observation file (weather, begin and end of the capture and exposure time). For the report, you can reuse this file for the OccultWatcher report or alternative use it directly for the SODIS report. What is the meaning of the different data colors in the details pane at the bottom when selecting an event? It appears different for various events.some list star alt in red. Some list duration or sun altitude in red. Others in black. Kenneth Drake

In a situation where i have received an observation, but they are not on OW, i am unable to create a text report with OW, for import into SODIS. This happens when i put out a request for observation, and someone who is not a regular occultation observer, responds. I can add the observer in OWC, but im not sure this is propagate through to OWD (after the event). I have already created a template for the observer in the OW template folder. It just needs to be filled with the event details but i can't do this. Any thoughts? Tim

Pushing an Event

Lunar Occultation "feed" defined filter not sticking
The Lunar Occultation is back. I defined a custom filter for it in OW (desktop) and events are displayed. But.... If I exit OW and restart it, the custom filter checkbox is reset to "unchecked" and the events aren't displayed. I thought at first it was because of my "default" filter but there seems to be more going on here. Vince

Sharing OW desktop

I've recruited a friend to participate in some upcoming occultations. They are not sure if he will be "into it", so I haven't helped him install any software other than what is needed to capture events. Left off the install list was OW desktop. He will record events and I told him that I would process and submit them. I will create an IOTA account for him and I would like to be able to use OW to sign in as him, find events for him, and use the "Report Observation feature". Can OW support multiple observers and if not, what would be the best practice to support this effort. I can use a second PC to create another copy of OW, if that is the only choice. Vince

This Saturday and Sunday, September 28 and 29, 2024, IOTA will hold its annual meeting online. As we did last year, we plan to have presentations each of those two days from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time (that is, starting at UT 20:00 and lasting 4 hours). The Zoom link for Day 1 is below. (The link for Day 2 will be distributed during the Day 1 meeting, to reduce the chances of a repeat of the hacking incident we had last year). Astrid is a Raspberry Pi-based, self-contained GPS-equipped astronomy imaging device with features that make it a complete, all-in-one device for recording and accurately timing occultation events. Using a tablet or laptop to connect to Astrid (via its wifi hotspot) the user can plate-solve, pre-point a telescope, control a computerized mount (if desired), schedule a recording, confirm in advance that the exposure and gain chosen are sufficient to record the target star, automatically record an event, and play back the recording (with a helpful identification of the target star). OWC is down, hosting provider having issues

Cannot access "stations" on OW desktop

OW displays "Show online map" but without the words "with stations" which signifies access to the internet. I do have access but OW is not working properly. I also cannot "report observation" for an event from last night, right-clicking on the event and selecting "Report Observation" does nothing. Ted B.

Ahh, thanks for the clarification. Your answer made me recall that overlaying the path on the google earth map transforms it into a graph with time on the X axis and offset from center on the Y axis. You adjust both based on elevation, as you should. Thanks for staying several steps ahead of us! Ted B.

(166404) 2002 NP41 occults TYC 5061-00646-1 OW announced (black highlighted event) that a change had occurred to the above event. I selected it and noticed my selected observing location is very near the outer edge of the shadow path. I then looked at the event in OWC and sure enough, there was an update on the 19th. the OWC event maps matches what I see when I invoke the OW "save google earth KLM" feature, and my observing location on both show up half way between the center line and the edge of the shadow path. The path graph in both OW and OWC show my position at the edge of the shadow path. What is going on here? Is it an altitude issue? Also, what is the white line and why does it point from my observing point to somewhere (arbitrarily?) on the white line? An finally, what do I, as an observer need to do to make everything line up correctly? Vince

No LuckyStar predictions ?

I have v 5.4.0.1 and LuckyStar feed is not showing anything. A friend has v5.4.0.0 and he sees Quaoar tonight (i do not). I have registered on OWC but that doesn't feed through to OW. Is this expected? Cheers Tim

Apparent error in Sites management

I happened to create a site that was named the same as one that was already in the list. I selected the site I wanted to get rid of and when I click on delete, the action deletes BOTH of the entries. I did a test and created two sites with the same name and then renamed one of them. That action works fine, I ended up with two sites each with a different name. I can then delete one of the sites without deleting the other. That is the work around, but it probably isn't suppose to work the way it does. Vince
