so maybe screen4 has the only chance of working. i tried it on one of my xp machines and i can not select anything. if i right mouse click an item, it is briefly selected and then the selection disappears as soon as i release the mouse or sooner. undo does not work so every time i mess it up i have to close and reload the program. the program is amazingly quirky and non intuitive. is there a user guide or a tutorial showing how to do the most basic stuff? i am really losing patience. all i want to do is remove all the 4th axis DRO stuff add an MDI to the hole created and add a button to toggle the second spindle on and off. i don't think this should take 2 days of experimenting.

since i can get some basic stuff to work with one of the other editors such as adding the DRO, is there some file that i can edit by hand to remove stuff as this is almost impossible with screen4. does one of the XML files contain the screen information or some other file that might be somewhat comprehensible?
From what I understand, if you have to use scrollbars in Screen4, it'll be much more difficult to use.

If you want to delete an item, single left click it and hit the delete key.
Be sure to save after everything you do. If you make a mistake, close the file and re-open it.

To add an item, click the item in the left hand bar, then click once on the screen where you want it. Then immediately click "None" in the left bar.
You can left click-hold and drag items into place, or use the properties window to move it. For some items, right click brings up the properties. For others it's a double left click.
There is a Screen4 video tutorial on the Machsupport site.

i can not find a screen editor for mach3 that works. when starting the
original mach screen i get an error that machscreenreadonly.dll is
missing ?although the program does load. i can not find any reliable way
to select screen elements. i am constantly selecting the entire screen
and can not pick out individual elements. mach3screen and screen4 are
total messes with the display very different from the actual screen.
elements overlap are displaced and stuff is there that should not be on
the screen at all. i have tried running each editor on an XP machine and
also on a win 8.1 machine. on the xp machine it is so horribly slow that
i do not have the patience to use the programs especially since i have
to constantly save and restart the programs as they crash and some times
make horrible messes that can not be undone with a single undo.

what is the best editor and what OS is needed to run it? i only want to
make a few changes and have spent hours so far accomplishing nothing.

Hi Dave,

Sorry for my English....

It is a saw machine intended?for cutting aluminum bars with?two?manipulators, one for feeding and position?the?material into?the machine?and the second one is to remove it to the palette. Manual axis will be used to set the?approximate depth of the cut,?perpendicular to the cutting move. First reason, not to use it as an active axis is possibility of errors in programming and the second one is that I'm running out of them. And just one additional is not enough, I need a few of them.

I should use a PLC at the end, but Mach will do it right as many times before.

Any idea is highly appreciated.

screen editor

Spencer Chase

i can not find a screen editor for mach3 that works. when starting the original mach screen i get an error that machscreenreadonly.dll is missing although the program does load. i can not find any reliable way to select screen elements. i am constantly selecting the entire screen and can not pick out individual elements. mach3screen and screen4 are total messes with the display very different from the actual screen. elements overlap are displaced and stuff is there that should not be on the screen at all. i have tried running each editor on an XP machine and also on a win 8.1 machine. on the xp machine it is so horribly slow that i do not have the patience to use the programs especially since i have to constantly save and restart the programs as they crash and some times make horrible messes that can not be undone with a single undo.

what is the best editor and what OS is needed to run it? i only want to make a few changes and have spent hours so far accomplishing nothing.

Re: Running stepper with MPG

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom,
?
Please don't take this the wrong way but in the UK an axe is a thing that cuts wood. As a machine designer I have an image in my head of some crazy wood cutting machine with axes and saw blades and you've run out of axes... the mind boggles. :-)
?
Even reading it as 'axis' I can't imagine why a saw machine would run out of them... could you?relieve my mind from this torment and tell us what the axes on your machine do and what you need an extra one for..??
?
I'm really curious :-)

Sorry, I do not have a Gecko so I cannot help you with your question.

What brand probe do you have and where is it available?

Take care,

Dave... Axes is plural of axis (). It is really unfortunate that axes is also the plural of axe ().

Hi Tom,

With a little Goggling ?i was able to find a few circuits that can do what you need.?

The first one looks good, but with 4x decoding, you might have too many pulses for your application.?

About half way down the second one are 3 more options.?

Hope this helps.?

21 tooth spline

we have a 1970's WABCO (Westinghouse Air Brake Co) earthmover and the spline collar on the output shaft of the front motor is hammered. ?We have found a waterjet guy who says he's cut splines for other construction and mining equipment, but he nor I have a spline wizard on our CADD programs.

The collar is pretty trashed, and the male spline is in a very hard to get to place, so it is hard to get good measurements. ?So we are thinking of making a ring to some ANSI standard spline (B92.1-1970?) and seeing if we can get it to fit. I have a 3D printer and if that works, then we'd cut a thin section on the waterjet to confirm. ?However, i don't see a 21 tooth spline in the 17 "common" pitches in my 19th edition Machinery's Handbook.

Might someone have a plugin or knowledge or gearotic etc to help make a dxf of said spline, so I can give it a try? ?Sorry for the spartan dimensions...

1970's made in USA machine?

spline teeth - 21

probably fillet root

pressure angle 30 (guess)

major dia is ~2.75 (across an odd number of teeth)

minor dia of male shaft ~2.56

I can try to get other measurements that might be helpful, but it is tough.

thanks in advance for advice, help etc.

Chuck

Touch Probe Troubles

I hope someone can help me understand why I am have trouble setting up a touch probe.? I have a Gecko540>UC-100>laptop>Mach3.? The set up has worked well for over a year and still does. ?However yesterday I decided to set up a touch probe.? Per the Gecko instructions I wired to the fourth lug (input four) and the twelfth lug (Ground).? When I go to the diagnostic screen and touch those two wires together I would expect to see a pin light come on.? That doesn¡¯t happen.? I have gone to Pin configuration and tried every combination (10,11,12,13 &15).? No luck.? It is probably something simple but can anyone point me in the right direction.

Rich
