do you keep your computer desktop tudy?
I had a visit to a opthamologist/surgeon today. ?I was having a check up on the state of my eyes as I have had macular surgery and cataracts removed and its two years since I had them looked at.?
My old Dr in the field suddenly retired as the situation was untenable - it apparently was down to a full on confrontation with the man he had brought in to join the practice..... and I had no files so the new guy (the one who lost me my old Dr) was starting from fresh with me today. In the process of doing notes bearing in mind he had never seen me before I saw a desktop that honestly left me aghast --- could barely see the desktop picture for the stuff plastered all over it and the window he was working on ...dead set it was about 6x4...Struth!! I couldn't help myself I said ?" Oh my god. What a mess your desktop is!!" ? We have one person in our local group who persists in doing this -- and never puts things away in the documents folder.....though he's done workshops with the club about file organisation and managing a Mac. ?How many people do this do you think?? ?In this case the man had a Mac on the desktop with nothing on the screen and appeared to have that networked but the dirty mess was on a PC screen where he was grumbling about how long the fancy scanner took to send images through to the system....and no wonder with that mess on the desktop !! He's gone a little berserk in follow up but I am going along sort of at the moment MRI as well - though rejecting his prescription as I'm allergic to everything on the list when I got a print out and he never asked me about allergies.? They could kill you not meaning to you know.? Oh dear that desktop --- I was totally gobsmacked that a professional man who have a computer in such a state.? Jude |
OH dear Jude, it seems you've had some tough times. I'm starting to put things behind me. When I was a kid I had nightmares about vampires, monsters etc. After recent events, I'm never scared walking through the graveyard near my fathers home. I have nightmares now about drug dealers. I sometimes think I'm at my last address & wake up in a cold sweat John

But is your desktop tidy ? You didn’t say.
You should be able to boot from an exterior drive — by holding down the “alt” key and it gives you the choice of drives Have done it myself since I have had this iMac Pro — I bought a caddy which plugs usb to my iMac Pro and I can slot in any old drive I like to it and see whats on it. I have a plug in SSD I bought as my new Time Machine….and it seems to be doing the job. To replace a HD in a Mac is not huge money these days John, though if its your old Mac I would replace still with a SATA drive like it was originally provided with. I did that with my old iMac. My mother used to lock me up in the dark as a very small girl, and once locked me in a dark cellar, and I am slightly claustraphobic as a result so not looking forward to the MRI I have scheduled. Bit I will be brave. I’ll sort myself some bellydance music….and that will make it all go quickly. Jude |
I would say my iMac is above average in terms of tidiness, but not perfect. My soul went out to you when you said you have claustrophobia, because I have it too. My sister shut me in a small cupboard as a child. I'm OK in lifts etc, but if my movement is constrained it's difficult. I've had 3MRI's, I know the science behind it. It's the safest medical procedure you can undergo. It's so safe they will even do it on pregnant women. N.B. you must not have any Iron about you & you may want to put your credit cards in a safe place. I worked round very high field magnets & my cards weren't wiped. You could get a 3 foot string of paper clips 6 feet from the magnet & they would levitate & point to it Hugs John

Perhaps I assumed ?to much, but if you have a pacemaker, you can't go anywhere near an MRI John

开云体育I’m keen to keep my desktop tidy and I like the fact that it’s on my iCloud Drive as well.?But I do have to keep 'weeding' it to keep it tidy.? Chris C M I Barker | Gamlingay On 7 Feb 2020, at 12:38, Judith Hall <glenidol@...> wrote:

开云体育When I’m working on a project I tend to make a folder with the project name so I can recognise it later. Everything related to that I put in that folder container While I am working on it. Soon as I’m finished I file it in documents and if it’s an ongoing for someone I file it under that name. Web page stuff of course is always in a site folder in Documents.?I do occasionally have a bit on the go and I make a “Tidy up” folder - I put AA Tidy Up if I want to clear in a hurry but I do make a point of going back and sorting I don’t just leave it there. I think it slows ?the Mac particularly booting if there’s too much on the desktop. I like a snappy start up. Jude On 8 Feb 2020, at 5:51 pm, zuiko via Groups.Io <zuiko@...> wrote:

Just been watching "Australia on Fire: Climate Emergency". When you saw the film of it, it brought home just how devastating it was. John

开云体育I had a sort of dilemma over this episode…. Dr in question insisting he wanted me to go to a particular hospital. Gave me paperwork for a particular group/company MRI — and they said have never had one at the hospital where he said he wanted me to go.?I sat here and thought do I ring him up and tell me he’s a klutz right off — but then he’s remote and uncontactable on a daily basis and I might wait weeks to see him (next appointment 2 months how urgent can it be). So I had to cross town to go to the companyone that was on the referral paperwork. I have no idea what he is going to think of the fact I ended up at a different hospital in front of a different MRI ….shrugging here. What a performance. Not happy taking it up with my GP who is much more sensible.? This man joined my old eye Dr and they ended up having a barney and my old eye Dr promptly packed his bags and retired early….. I ?can see why. Jude On 11 Feb 2020, at 8:59 am, Purler <susan.platter@...> wrote: Wow, Jude, it’s never dull for you, is it? ?Wishing you the best of luck!

What a performance! About six people had a go at getting a needle into me for gandolinium contrast. I debated about having the contrast because of my allergy problems and asked them did they know what to do if it had an adverse effect on me.
?It was such a long winded event my husband started to get very worried and was about to go to the desk and ask what had happened to me. But its done as as I don't trust the eye Dr and he's very hard to get hold of I have asked for it to be sent to my GP and booked to see him on Friday. Was a very expensive fishing expedition at nearly $700 over the counter --- but looks like I got some rebate sorted via Aussie Medicare. They haven't given me any case no things so I can view on line or see report in 7 days - I'm going to check on that. But my neuro visit in the morning was a delight - really nice man - calm sane sensible practical talks common sense.? Jude |
开云体育Dearest Jude & Peter,?You seem to be having a really tough time. They put some sort of radio-dye into me when I had a 2nd MRI. My natural curiosity as a scientist was tempered by my “lets get the hell through” this attitude. They told me it might feel like I wanted to urinate, when that wasn’t necessary, but it wasn’t so bad. Anyway they seem to have got the images they wanted. Some doctors must be looking at me from the inside out. Hugs Jude & Peter
