installing M365 apps...

开云体育

Hi all,

My dad bought my sister's old laptop off of her and since he doesn't use it at all it has now become my backup. Anyway my parents got a new Windows 11 desktop and while the tech was here setting it up I asked him to remove my sister's accounts and add mine as I couldn't figure out how to do either. He did both and activated M365 but when I did a search for outlook the only one that came up was outlook (new). How do I install outlook (classic)? I can live with outlook (new) for the most part but there are still features that I use in classic outlook and I'd really like to have this laptop as similar as possible to my current one in terms of programs in case I do ever have to actually use it. This laptop is running the latest version of Windows 11 and I installed NVDA on it. Thanks for any instructions that anyone can provide me.

Isn’t this an old message. Didn’t we go down this road a few months ago.

Get

At this point in time, if M365 is on a system the user can choose to use either Outlook (classic) or Outlook [which on some systems will have "(new)" and on others just read "Outlook."
?
If one hits the Windows key and enters "outlook" in the search, you should have two different options, one of which should be Outlook (classic).
?
Both Outlook (classic) and Outlook (new) [whether or not (new) is specified] should exist side-by-side, and be able to be used as desired, through 2029.

In mine, at least, there’s a button in the New Outlook that allows you to switch to Outlook Classic. I haven’t used it, as I plan to remain on Outlook New. Navigate around the ribbons and the controls; it shouldn’t be hard to find if it’s there. It isn’t part of a ribbon, if I remember correctly.

Just for curiosity, can you tell us how you get to it and how it's read?
?
At one time there was a toggle to do this, which I wrote about ages ago when New Outlook was really new, in preview, and not accessible:

Getting back to?Outlook?Classic?User Interface if you're in the Inaccessible New?Outlook?User Interface (AKA?Outlook?Preview or?Outlook?PRE)

?

But I have not seen that for quite a while now.? Every machine I've worked with recently has either an Outlook/Outlook (classic) pair in Windows search results or an Outlook (new)/Outlook (classic) pair.? Mine went from the latter to the former somewhere between a month and a month and a half ago.

BTW, I just checked what the target for Outlook (classic) and it is: ?"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\OUTLOOK.EXE"
?
I just followed my traditional instructions (below) for creating a desktop shortcut to a program using the above noted path, and it does fire up Outlook Classic.
?
1. Gain focus on the desktop with nothing selected.
2. Bring up the context menu.
3. Hit W, S ?[New, Shortcut]
4. The create shortcut dialog appears. ?In the "Type the location of the item" edit box, enter the full path to the program you want to run. ?In this case, that path is:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\OUTLOOK.EXE"
The quotes are necessary since there are spaces in the full path.
5. Hit the Next button.
6. In the "Type a name for this shortcut" edit box, give the shortcut a name that makes sense. ?In this case, that might be Outlook Classic.
7. Hit the Finish button, and that new shortcut to invoke the program is now on your desktop.

I just went into the help tab and was able to find the button to switch but I get an error message that I can’t switch and that I have to install a stand-alone version of Outlook classic for Windows. I’m starting to wonder if he didn’t activate M365 correctly if the only outlook I can access is the free app that comes with Windows 11 computers…

Madison,
?
You've answered your own question.? You clearly do not have M365 installed and activated or else the default "New Outlook" is the one that lands on top of Outlook 365, not the free version, known as Outlook for Windows.

Alt+v for view

Down arrow to the change view option;

Shift+tab and you are on the check box to try New Outlook.

?

I hope that helps.

Susan, thanks. This is a variant on the method I mentioned in the tutorial wrote, but is more easily explained.
?
BTW, this would probably work regardless of which Ribbon you drop into.? Your first two steps happen to drop one into the first item in the View ribbon, but the Shift + Tab then throws focus out of the ribbon and into the Word window frame and on to the rightmost control there, that toggle button (even if it's announced as a checkbox, it is in actuality a toggle button) is the rightmost one.
?
It seems that most people are asking about going back to Outlook Classic from New Outlook these days, and the corresponding toggle button that once appeared in New Outlook to switch back to Classic no longer exists.

Thanks for the link Brian; when I go to the M365 homepage listed in the article all it talks about is Copiolot. Also when I looked at the list of apps installed on the laptop Word, Excel and PowerPoint are all there and all open normally so not sure what’s going on with M365 on this laptop…
