Re: Outlook 365 & NVDA 2020.2 jumping around
Hi Jean, The most common issue like that I can think of is for laptop users with a touch pad under the keyboard - if the touch pad is enabled (as it is by default), then if you move your wrist near it, it can often trigger the mouse to either move or click somewhere unintended.? There should be a way to disable it, but it varies from laptop to laptop. Kind regards Quentin. On Fri, Sep 4, 2020 at 11:55 PM Jean <jmarcleyhaha@...> wrote:

Thank you for all your suggestions. Yes, I do select text before trying to insert a comment by using the Control+Shift and left or right aros. Jaws tells me what is selected. My comments seem to be set to display in balloons. A large part of my problem seems to be that the comment pane is disappearing way too fast, and without my having to press escape. It sometimes happens before i can even begin to type. For instance, I select text, press Control+Alt+m, and Jaws tells me I'm inserting a comment. Then, often? within a very few seconds, perhaps two or less, the pane disappears and I'm put back in the main body of the document, and a blank comment was inserted and the comment i meant to type is placed to the right of what I selected. Any ideas? ~Ann On Sun, Sep 6, 2020 at 05:35 PM, Rick wrote: Hello Ann: |

First, the shortcut Control+Alt+m is not a JAWS shortcut but is from word. Are you selecting text before issuing these shortcut keys so that your comment will be associated with some text in the document? In NVDA when I press one of these shortcut sequences, NVDA speaks my name followed by "comment, edit level 1." This lets me know that I am in the comment area and what I type ends up in the comment. Then, by pressing ESC, I am returned to the document for editing. In JAWS, after issuing the insert comment shortcut, JAWS speaks "Inserting comment 0 by ()." Again, I am alerted that I am in a comment for editing. What happens if you ignore the shortcuts and actually use the ribbon by selecting Alt+R and tabbing to the insert comment button and then pressing the button? If you do this, does it indicate whether this button is enabled or disabled? How is your version of Word set to display comments? Press Alt+R followed by t and then m to open the show markup dialog to see how comments are displayed. I have mine to display in balloons. Rick -----Original Message-----

Unlike MS Word, you once you see the suggestion or arrow to what your looking for, press the tab key until you reach the "Change or Change All" button. If you have multiple instances of the word you need to correct you would use the "Change all" button. HTH -----Original Message-----

I wanted to welcome all of you to this list. I also want to thank you for choosing to subscribe, considering the large number of groups which are available and which always competes with our time and attention. ? I realize that there are a ton of technology-related groups out there for blind users and creating yet another one risks further fragmentation. However, about a week ago I ran into a situation where I needed assistance in performing a task with Outlook and I just couldn't figure out the best list to post it to. It wasn't specifically a Windows issue nor was it a screen reader specific question. I realized that what we needed (at least, what I believed that we needed) was a group to ask questions specific to Office, which is why I created this list. The large number of subscribers to this list in such a short period of time confirms that I may have been correct about the need for such a list but time will tell if I'm right or not in the long term. In the meantime please continue to enjoy this list and use it for its intended purpose for as long as you feel it's useful to you. No question is too basic and, while I know this may be an overly used expression, there really is no such thing as a stupid question. ? I just ask that you follow the rules for this list. Be courteous, try to make your subject lines detailed and be sure to specify the version of the software you're asking about, as in JAWS 2020, Word 2019, Windows 10, etc. ? JAWS 2020 users are encouraged to update to the August release. JAWS updates often add improvements and fixes to the way that it interacts with Office products and this is also the case for Zoomtext. NVDA users should update to version 2020.2, as well. ? Finally, please be aware that the first few messages from users need to be approved by me before they get posted to the list. This is a default setting with the Groups.io service. Because I'm working during the day I won't be able to approve users until this evening and so there may be a delay in seeing messages being posted. Thanks in advance for your patience and understanding. ? Finally, I hope that this list proves to be a benefit to you and that it helps you to learn more about how to best use Microsoft Office. ? ? I don't know if I've actually seen this behavior specifically with JAWS and Outlook. However, when I open Web sites in my Web browser JAWS often doesn't provide me with the Web site in its virtual buffer. This often happens when the browser first loads. It's as if I'm stuck in a kind of limbo and I usually press the tab key which forces JAWS to render the Web page correctly, allowing navigation to function as I would expect. I'm just wondering if something similar is happening with Outlook messages. You could try pressing the alt key twice. The first press of the alt key moves focus away from the message to the ribbon and the second press of the alt key returns focus back to the message itself. I know that I've seen similar things happen with NVDA where it doesn't so much go silent when a window opens but it doesn't seem to know where it is and forcing the application to quickly change focus away from and back to the window helps it to take a second look, so to speak, and things are back to normal. I'm wondering if this technique might also work with JAWS? ? David Goldfield, Blindness Assistive Technology Specialist JAWS Certified, 2019 ? On 9/6/2020 1:06 AM, Susan Thompson wrote:
