Switching to New Outlook while running Outlook Classic
At the moment, this has become simple.
?
If I hit Alt + T, that throws the toggle for "Try New Outlook" and you then get a confirmation dialog asking you whether you want to switch or cancel.
?
In New Outlook, if I hit Alt I can then just tab twice and I'm on the toggle to switch back to Outlook Classic.
?
It should not be necessary to do this anymore for almost anyone.? Several months ago the change was rolled out to the general public that allows you to start either New Outlook or Outlook Classic from Windows Search.? How those are designated is showing some variability, but the only three designations I've seen are Outlook, Outlook (new), and Outlook (classic).? Which two of those three are on a given system varies.? On mine, the plain Outlook fires up New Outlook, and Outlook (classic) fires up Outlook Classic.? For many months, I had only Outlook (new) and Outlook (classic).? That changed a few months back for me.

Re: A quick method to determine whether you are in New Outlook versus Outlook Classic
If you hit WinKey and type just Outlook in the search, what comes back?
?
For me, the first returned option is Outlook [no qualifier], which is what used to be shown in the search results as "Outlook (new)" but that changed about a month ago or so.? If I keep arrowing down I land on "Outlook (classic)."
?
If your straight Outlook result in a Windows search is triggering Outlook Classic, then there is likely an entry that will say "Outlook (new)" on your system.
?
Right now things are in a major state of flux and will be through the end of June.? Microsoft is in the process of rolling out changes (which I already have) that allow you to run Outlook Classic and New Outlook side-by-side with one another.? You can use one, the other, or both.

Re: A quick method to determine whether you are in New Outlook versus Outlook Classic
开云体育I have the Outlook that comes with Office 365. It used to say outlook classic, but the name classic was removed from the icon because of my screen mirror no longer says classic, but because of the fact that it says upper ribbon when you push all, I’m still using classic. I have it connected to my colleges Microsoft email account And also my personal email account but was just curious as to whether the new outlook the one that will replace or should I say roll out and end the outlook as we know in 2029 is better than the classic version. If so, how would I switch to the new Outlook and if I didn’t like it how would I switch back to the classic version? yes, I’m using the latest version of Windows 11. Re: Fonts in word
I'm not sure what you mean.? The person who creates the document is who decides what font it comes in.
?
The recipient can then do what they want in terms of changing the font to suit themselves and save the file afterward.? That makes that change permanent.
?
You don't get to choose what font something opens in when the source of the file is not you.? You can change the default font in your Normal.dotm so that any file you create would use the font and point size you prefer, but that won't change anything about files you get from someone else.

You do not say what version of Outlook you're using, which matters.? The information I'm giving is in relation to 365, even though from what I've seen it largely has applied to 2024 as well.? Earlier than that, I don't know.
?
"Better" is subjective.? But Outlook Classic will cease to exist in 2029, so if you are intending to stay with Outlook (and are not going to use out-of-support software) then what's now called "New Outlook" and is slowly starting to be called just Outlook is what you'll be using.

Re: A quick method to determine whether you are in New Outlook versus Outlook Classic
If you hear a phrase, when using JAWS, that starts out, "Upper Ribbon" when you hit Alt (and only Alt) that indicates you're using Outlook Classic.
?
I wasn't trying to give the complete verbiage, just the shortest part that comes at the outset that allows you to differentiate which of the two Outlook user interfaces you're using.? As you have seen, exactly what each screen reader announces is different, but it is distinguishing between the two in each of the most commonly used screen readers.

?
My guess is that if someone's accidentally done a press of alt, and just alt, or hits alt and lets it go before also hitting S, this is where the trouble can begin.? Ctrl + Enter and Alt + S both do a send provided focus is in the message body.? Ctrl + Enter is just less likely to accidentally throw focus elsewhere, so it's more reliable.

Re: alt key inserting while using jaws and outlook classic
What "makes sense" is not what matters (and I happen to agree with you about what would make sense).? What matters is what works, and is officially documented.
?
What I like, or you like, at any given moment in time is not relevant.? What works, and is documented, is.
?
Folks are going to have to get used to the idea that there are times where things change.? Microsoft has been moving toward a unified User Interface for both the free and paid versions of Outlook for a long time now, and that's what New Outlook over 365 and Outlook for Windows (the free client) achieve.
?
Feedback can be provided to Microsoft via the Windows Feedback Hub or, in the case of either New Outlook or Outlook Classic, the Feedback option in the Help menu, accessed with Alt, E, F.

开云体育Alt with the letter S makes more sense for sending an email then control with enter. Although both keyboard shortcuts worked in outlook classic, they should just be brought over to the new version of Outlook. On May 10, 2025, at 9:17?PM, Brian Vogel via groups.io <britechguy@...> wrote:

Make sure you're looking at the correct shortcuts for New Outlook versus Outlook Classic versus Outlook on the Web.? These are in their own dedicated tabs on that support page.

Alt + S is NOT the shortcut for Send Message in New Outlook and never has been.? It's Ctrl + Enter.? ?In Classic Outlook it is Alt + S.

Re: alt key inserting while using jaws and outlook classic
It's been discussed here and elsewhere recently, but Microsoft is moving away from using "Outlook (new)" and "Outlook (classic)" as the designations to just "Outlook" and "Outlook (classic)".
?
This makes perfect sense as what has been being called "New Outlook" is not particularly new anymore and will be the one and only Outlook come 2029.? And since Outlook Classic will hang around until that time, too, it's keeping that designation.

Re: alt key inserting while using jaws and outlook classic

Yes, I don’t have the same exact issue but alt S does not send emails for me anymore. I have the latest version of the screen reader 2025 and windows but to be honest I’m not sure exactly but I’m pretty sure I’m using Outlook classic. It used to say classic in parentheses but now it doesn’t anymore so I’m not sure if that’s a change with Microsoft, but I don’t know why they didn’t just keep outlook the way it was and has been for years. |
Re: alt key inserting while using jaws and outlook classic
开云体育Hello, I am the person having the problem with the alt key. I am using windows 11 with JAWS 2025 and office 365. Whenever I use Outlook and respond to a message it triggers the problem.? I press alt s to send a message, sometimes the message does not send and I have to press the delete key to remove the s so it is not inserted into the message.? When I press alt s again, the message sends but then? I have the problem with the alt key.? The computer won’t let me do anything else so I have to reboot but when I press alt f4 and select shutdown and then press the enter key, it says alt enter and I have to do a hard reboot. Today I closed JAWS and using Narrator and with Narrator the problem disappeared so maybe it is A JAWS problem. I have spoken to the Microsoft accessibility line for support several times with no results. Since today I switched to Narrator it seems to work.? Also I am also pressing control enter to send messages in Outlook to see if that helps and will not trigger the alt key.? ? I hope that maybe if it is a JAWS problem and using Narrator it doesn’t happen I hope the problem has been resolved.? This is a new computer which I have had for only two months, thanks, Judy From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Brian Vogel via groups.io
