Re: JAWS Locking up when I open some messages

I often see this with messages that have tracking pixels in their headers to let the sender know that you have opened their email. It can really delay

the opening and reading of a message. When that happens to me, the fan in the computer speeds up and gets louder, and it is a total pain to wait for.

I can’t guarantee that this is the issue, but it is possible.

Re: JAWS Locking up when I open some messages

This usually happens when there are a lot of visuals in the message. It is a problem that blows hot and cold for me. Currently I am not getting any trouble from JAWS, which performs better than the rest with these emails.

I've noticed there is another kind of email where this happens with both JAWS and NVDA but not Narrator. It can happen in emails where somebody has shared a video with you.

Have you had the same issue when using either NVDA or Narrator for the same messages?? That is a first pass diagnostic to decide whether the fault lies with the JAWS screen reader versus Outlook 365.

?

If you can't replicate with a different screen reader (or even if you can) this needs to be reported to Vispero/FS Support.? They'd need to know if it's only happening with JAWS, or with JAWS and any other screen reader or screen readers.

JAWS Locking up when I open some messages

开云体育

When I open some messages in Outlook-365 JAWS completely locks up. I can’t navigate through the message and JAWS stops talking. This happens with messages which have a lot of links or apparently have mor complex structures. For example, I got a message about an upcoming from my Amazon subscribe and save . When I tried opening the message JAWS locked up. JAWS did finally speak, but when I tried arrowing down the message JAWS locked dup again. Is anyone else having this issue? Anyone got a fix?

I’m using the latest JAWS and Outlook-365. I just upgraded to Windows-11, but this also happened on Windows-10.

Thanks John

Re: Issue with Outlook-365, JAWS and Windows-11

I actually find it more annoying when things like this are posted on screen-reader lists. This has absolutely nothing to do with JAWS. It's an Outlook problem. I wish moderators of screen-reader lists would take action to stop people posting things that are not about the screen-readers. This is the correct group for problems to do with Outlook.

Since Ann has not replied, I'll jump in.? What she mentioned applies only to Microsoft Word and its save functionality, at least as written, which is using Alt + F, T, S, to get to the Word Options Save pane, and then checking the checkbox for "Save to computer by default."
?
When you go to save an attachment or attachments in a message, you should get the standard "Save As" dialog for individual messages, where you pick the Save location, and if you choose to Save All Attachments, you get what is essentially a modified Save As dialog after a dialog that presents you with a short list of all the attachments on the message.? You have to pick the folder where you want all the attachments saved or create a new one where they will be placed.

In word, go to options (ALT+f, then T, then s) Tab to "save to computer by default" and be sure it is checked.

Janet and anyone else who wishes to respond to the original question:? It's perfectly fine to do so.? ?Had I not brought up that the message was cross-posted, you'd never have known.
?
The answers given in both venues have quite a bit of overlap, but there are some that are unique to each venue.? That's one of the reasons that when cross-posting is done, that the person doing it designate which of the topics on which of the forums should be "the master topic" for replies.? That way everyone knows what everyone else has said.
?
I'm just trying to discourage cross-posting, generally, and saying when it's done it should be done "the right way."? That places no restrictions on those providing answers, only those asking the questions.

?

There is absolutely nothing new, at all, about cross-posting being very, very strongly frowned upon when it's done as a "plastering of the same message" across multiple venues.? Doing so causes those who continue to do it to get reputations that they really don't want in those venues.

?

The expectation about appropriate technique was stated, and it's my expectation that the membership as a whole will follow it.? I do this in response to "official announcements" from group administration where I am a member only.? I don't make the rules there, but when any member of group administration makes a direct statement on policy, that's policy.

Hi John,

?

Yes, I had this same problem with getting the pesty message Map Network Drive, but I still couldn’t save my attachments like you say you could.

So now, what I do when I want to save an attachment is to just open the email, control plus shift to the attachment I want to save, and press control plus space bar to select it, and I then press control plus c to copy, and move to the folder where I want to save the attachment, and press control plus v to paste the attachment in the folder.

Just remember when you press the control plus space bar to select, Jaws 2025 will not say selected, or at least that is how it is on my Windows 11 24h1 Laptop, although, it might be different on your Computer.

I have to admit I am getting so tired of all these different Outlooks MS has been putting out lately.?

But yet, I do have to admit I do like the option to just select ?and copy the attachment or the email and place it into any folder. ?

I also like when I want to save the entire email with the attachment I can press the context key arrow up or down a couple of times, until I hear copy email to the clip board I then press enter on that, and I then go to any folder I want to place the email into.

Please don’t ask me if I am using the MS 365? Outlook Classic or the new Outlook, as I will need to look into that now.

MS drives me nuts with all these different Outlooks, some times people don’t even realize which Outlook they are using.

John,
?
To be clear, I am calm, and I really felt that I calmly expressed "the unwritten rule" about not cross-posting/multi-posting after this occurred by your hand for the first time.? I also had every reason to believe you'd honor the request, and it's clear that you also read the linked article.

Let’s all calm down about this. What I should have done is note in my post that I’d sent this to another email list and named the list. ?

This is a absolutely unreasonable and unrealistic request.

Well, Mike, its a common one, and one made by a member of group admin, me, as I am a moderator here.? I expect this convention to be followed, and for precisely the reasons outlined in the linked article.

?

If one wants to cross-post, there is a right way to do it.? Posting the same question at the same time on multiple venues where none of them have any idea that it appears elsewhere isn't that way.? Period. End of sentence. End of discussion.? It will not be tolerated as general practice and when I see it occur it will be called out.

?

What's unrealistic is your belief that there is not a ton of overlap between the membership of the various blind-centric tech support groups.? That overlap is huge, which makes the appearance of the same question in multiple places an annoyance in other ways, too.
