I trust you are trying to transfer Yahoo group and I hope you have followed the steps 0, 1 and 2 sequentially as given on the page? If you send the invite (step 2) before you completed the step 1 then your invite will not get recognized.?

Here is the process. It is not automated and will take several days. Do not do anything out of order.

  1. Go here:?/
  2. At the bottom of the page, you'll find a link that says "Easy Group Transfer." Click it.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the subsequent page and click on the big blue button labelled "Yahoo Group Instructions."
  4. Read the instructions carefully. Bookmark this page, too. You will come back here several times.
  5. Create your groups.io group and configure it according to your needs.?[NOTE: You will receive an email when your request for a group has been approved. This alone could take up to a day.] (You have now completed Step 0 of the instructions)
  6. To upgrade the group to the Premium plan, select Admin>Upgrade from the left-side menu bar and click on the blue "View/Change Plan" button. Select "Premium Yearly" (one-time cost of $110). You can downgrade later.
  7. Once you have your groups.io group set up, return to the bookmarked page. Click on the big green button at the bottom that says "Set Up New Transfer."
  8. Enter the name of your Yahoo group and the name of your groups.io group. Do NOT enter any domain information (i.e.: leave off @yahoogroups.com or @yahoogroups.co.uk), just the group names.
  9. Click the big green "Start Group Transfer Process" button at the bottom of the page. (You have now completed Step 1 of the instructions)
  10. Go to your YAHOO GROUP (not your groups.io group) and log in. Send a membership invitation to "[email protected]." If you've never done this before, instructions can be found at??(You have now completed Step 2 of the instructions)
  11. BE PATIENT. Accepting the invitation is the longest step in the process, and requires human intervention (solving a CAPTCHA).?You DID send the invitation from your Yahoo group, didn't you?
  12. BE EVEN MORE PATIENT. If you want to confirm status during this long wait, see /g/GroupManagersForum/message/8352?. There will be a status box at the top of the resulting page. If all is well, it should say something like: "We have received your invitation and will accept it soon. There is no need to send another invite." Note: Sending additional invitations in an attempt to hurry things up seems to have the opposite effect.?
  13. You will eventually receive an email stating that the Yahoo group invitation has been accepted. (You have now completed Step 3 of the instructions)
  14. Return to your YAHOO GROUP and log in. Promote "[email protected]" to a Moderator. Instructions for this can be found at?.
  15. Now return to the groups.io page that you bookmarked in #4 above. Pull down the menu at bottom right and select the group you're ready to transfer. On the resulting page, click the green "Give Go Ahead to Transfer" button at bottom right. (You have now completed Step 4 of the instructions)
  16. BE PATIENT AGAIN. The ability to actually do the transfer depends on how well Yahoo's servers are operating. We all know what that means, right?
  17. You may notice activity in your new groups.io group, which may reflect partial completion of the process. Do not obsess about this.?
  18. When the transfer is done, you will receive an email from the transfer agent summarizing what it was able to transfer. It will also list whatever things it was?not?able to transfer. Until this email is received, you aren't done yet.
  19. Rejoice.
Most of us have "been there" with this process before and it all sounds easy in hindsight. Ironically, the same thing that's causing most people to abandon Y!G (server downtime) is exactly the same thing most likely to get in the way of completing the transfer process. The best time to initiate a transfer is when Yahoo is performing well. If you procrastinate until things are crashing and burning, delays, incomplete transfers, and other such frustrations can be expected.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Once the invite has been accepted, then you need to go to the Easy Yahoo Transfer page and start the process.

Have you clicked the green button "Start a New Transfer" and entered name of Yahoo group followed by name of the new group, etc? That is the Step 1. Inviting [email protected] is the second step and must be done after Step 1. There is clearly worded note saying this. If you just send invites without going through Step 1 it will not work.?

The underscore is not a problem in the Yahoo group or the transfer process. Underscores are not allowed in the names for groups.io groups. It has something to do with the subdomain addressing used for subgroups.

I'm not Groups.io management, but I agree. I've linked to it from GMF's Wiki page:
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups

I added a list for links to helpful messages. Please feel free to nominate (or add) more links to GMF or beta messages, or other public sources.

Fleshing out that page is still on my "todo" list. If you have the gumption to pitch in with descriptions and illustrations please feel free.

While you're waiting for the transfer agent to accept the invitation to your Y!Group you can change your mind about what items to transfer. Click that button to save the changes.

Bruce -
Thanks for trying to bring some order to this process. I offer a couple additions. First, your RTF document loses the numbering when converted to plain text, so I have added it manually. (Many groups are set to plain text so messages show in the *reader's* preferred font and size instead of being limited to the sender's preferences.)

I have added additional information to your step 9 and included a step 9B in case step 9 fails to complete. This happens more often than we'd like.

An added suggestion when setting up your groups.io group is to set the group to fully moderated. (Settings>Settings>Spam Control> Moderated) to keep people from posting until the transfer process is complete. Any such posts would fall within the old messages being transferred and would be out of order. After the transfer is complete, change the group to your preferred setting.

I would also recommend asking people to not join the new group until after the transfer process, in order to maintain ownership of content (posts, photos, files, etc.) that they posted to the old group that will be transferred. Ask members who wish to change their email address associated with groups.io to wait until after the move and use the "change email address" process, rather than re-subscribing, so they can retain control of their own content.

These additions are based on past experience with a number of difficult transfers. If Yahoo weren't so troubled, these steps might not be necessary. But then again, if Yahoo weren't so troubled there might not be the heavy demand to move either.

Dano

[Reason: Add more information on group creation and the need to wait for group approval. Include a paragraph on irony at the end.]

Here is the process. It is not automated and will take several days. Do not do anything out of order.

1. Go here: /
5. Create your groups.io group and configure it according to your needs. [NOTE: You will receive an email when your request for a group has been approved. This alone could take up to a day.]

8. Click the big green "Start Group Transfer Process" button at the bottom of the page.
=(You have now completed Step 1 of the instructions)=
9. Go to your YAHOO GROUP (not your groups.io group) and log in. Send a membership invitation to both [email protected] and another email address available to you and not registered with Yahoo. Check the email for the second address you invited to confirm Yahoo actually sent an invitation. If the second address doesn't receive the invitation, transfer probably didn't either, so repeat this step.
9B. If after several attempts you are unable to get an invitation sent to the transfer address and your second address, you may need to contact [email protected] and explain that you appear to be unable to send an invitation, and include your Yahoo group and groups.io group names. Support may be able to send a request for membership to get around the obstacle. If this is necessary, go to step 11 and look for a membership request, which you need to approve.
=(You have now completed Step 2 of the instructions)=
10. BE PATIENT. Accepting the invitation could take several days, and requires human intervention (solving a CAPTCHA). You DID send the invitation from your Yahoo group, didn't you?
11. You will eventually receive an email stating that the membership has been accepted.

Yep, I acknowledge that even with 17 steps, I've left a lot out. I didn't provide guidance on how to transfer into a subgroup, edit the areas to be transferred, or transfer several groups at once. I didn't mention the emails going to subscribers upon completion [something not readily verifiable by the owner], or how to keep that from happening. I left out a lot of "best practices" already discussed elsewhere. And of course, contacting GIO support is always an option if you find yourself stuck.

When people are struggling with the basic process, it's best to focus on the basics. I encourage those undergoing this process to also examine the GMF wiki at?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups?and scour it thoroughly for supplemental information. That said, I'd like to think the content of my previous email should be sufficient to get most people from Point A to Point B.
?
Regards,
Bruce

Thanks for the updates and explanations.? Do you have an update on the backlog?? My in-process button still says: "We've received the invite to your group and will accept it soon. There is no need to send another invite." after clicking...

I have 9 YahooGroups and decided to transfer all of them. I've started with the smallest (6 members), least active (84 messages in 8 years. I would call it dormant, but I sent a message 6 days announcing the intended transfer and it worked, and the website works (except for "Change Cover" photo),

I've completed steps 1-9.

When do I click on "Update Transfer"?
This is not mentioned in the instructions.
Between steps 9 & 10?

[I've actually sent the invitation 3 times in the last 6 days, and again just now - no response...]

I initiated transfer of a Yahoo group recently (approx 1700 members and over 60K messages, 250 files and 900 photos). Following the steps in the Wiki on this site, the entire process was completed in less than 3 days (July 16th to July 19th). For what it's worth, my group here is a premium group; not sure that has any bearing though.

I have? done 1-10 precisely....yet does patience mean several weeks with no acceptance of my invte??? Several weeks? Very disappointed.?

I am in the same boat. I have followed the steps precisely, yet here I sit, weeks later and no acceptance of the original invite. I've even reread the steps, done it all again...and now getting closer to three weeks after the second attempt...nothing.? If IO works that poorly for this long, what is going on???

And the above is EXACTLY what I have done, yet six weeks out the first failed acceptance of my invite, and nearing three weeks after my second attempt, I sit with no acceptance of the invite. Very unimpressed. Who runs IO???
