Subject: [GMF] Can members enlarge the font size of messages they view on the groups.io site?
?
Hello - I am a new member of this group. I am a member of two groups that transferred over from Yahoo, and I am the administrator of a group on Yahoo that is considering moving over to Groups.io.

We have a couple of members who are vision impaired, and they have asked if there is a way that, when they view their messages from the Groups.io site, they can make the font size larger so that it is possible for them to read the message. Is there any way that the member can change the font size of the messages they are reading? Or a way that a member can have everything on the site in a larger font?
?

Re: Default "reply to"

That would be on the group Settings page.? Scroll down to Message Policies, then change it in the Reply To box.

Default "reply to"

Hi,

How do I change the default reply that subscribers get to the individual who sent the request, rather than the whole group? Does this make sense? I'm looking for a default "reply to sender" vs default "reply all."

Thanks,

Re: How long does the Yahoogroups conversion take

Have you received the notification that the invitation was received by groups.io?? If not, you should send it again.? If you have, just wait until you get the notice that 'transfer' is a member so you can make them a moderator on your Yahoo group.

Re: Can members enlarge the font size of messages they view on the groups.io site?

Virginia,

Or a way that a member can have everything on the site in a larger font?

They can certainly use their browser's zoom feature to enlarge the entire page. In many browsers holding down the Ctrl key while tapping the keypad + and - keys will zoom, and Ctrl plus the keypad digit 0 will restore the normal size. I don't think there's a separate feature in Groups.io specific to enlarging text.

Also, Groups.io has been working closely with some group moderators who are reliant on screen readers, adapting the Groups.io HTML where feasible to make the audible presentation and control access clearer.

How long does the Yahoogroups conversion take

Its been 4-5 days since I started the "automatic" switch from Yahoogroups to Groups.IO. I sent the invite as directed from my Yahoogroup. Heard nothing and gotten no response or updates.

Thoughts?

Marty

Re: Third Party Relay

Ginny,

I'm going to guess that Groups.io puts their subscribers on a shared IP, or several shared IPs.

I think that is likely the case. There are over 6900 listed groups at Groups.io, a dedicated IP address for each group's outbound messages seems unlikely.
?
This means that the poor sending habits of some groups will ruin the sender reputation of everyone else on that shared IP.? This affects the deliverability of everyone's mail.? This happened to us with Yahoo Groups.

Mark is far more vigilant about deliverability than I think Yahoo Groups ever were, but absolute prevention is of course impossible.
?
This may be something that would need to be answered by Mark as I don't see anything that allows configuration of the outbound mail.

Ah, you mean to have all of the group's outbound messages directed through your server. I wasn't thinking in that direction. Something like that might be possible (or be made possible) with the custom branding capabilities of an Enterprise plan group. Or perhaps just a dedicated outbound IP address, if not routed through an external server.

Hi Bob,

This means that the poor sending habits of some groups will ruin the sender reputation of everyone else on that shared IP.? This affects the deliverability of everyone's mail.? This happened to us with Yahoo Groups.? The IPs tanked because of spammers residing on the same IP, hurting not only everyone's delivery, but also their own domain's sender reputation.??

By using our own dedicated IP through our email delivery partner, our sender reputation is our own.? We are responsible for keeping it in good shape and thereby getting good delivery of emails coming from our domain.

I started a group to see if I could find a setting.? This may be something that would need to be answered by Mark as I don't see anything that allows configuration of the outbound mail.

Thanks - Ginny

Re: New member: question about Group owner email address

Michael,

These messages do not appear in the archives, do they??
?
No, they are not put into the group's Messages section, nor sent to ordinary members.

But the content is sometimes available (to mods/owners) through a link in the Activity log. I've forgotten at the moment if there's a reason that is "sometimes" rather than always or never.

Michael,

My question is about the owner email address, what happens when email is sent there?
?
The email message is forwarded to the email address of each moderator and owner, subject to the Owner Email setting in that mod/owner's Subscription page. Each mod/owner can elect to receive all such emails, none of them, or only those sent by current subscribers to the group.

The message is also logged in the group's Activity log (Message to +owner) and in the member's Activity History page.

Re: Third Party Relay

Shal &? Ginny,
Groups.io is essentially an approved bulk mail provider and acts as a relay.? Everyone who joins your group contributes their email address to the group.? When someone posts a message to your group,:
? ? ? ? ?All those who have set their options to receive individual emails are sent a copy of that email
But wait, there's more!
? ? ? ? All those who only wish to receive digests, receive digests when sufficient postings have accumulated.
? ? ? ? And finally all those who wish no emails do not receive any.
With over half million members, groups.io essentially has license for bulk mailings? otherwise it would have seized up and failed after setting up the first few groups.io .
I use mailchimp for newsletters and other large mailings and it is essentialy a glorified smtp relay but it requires that I track bounces and ensure that I don't generate too many.
Groups.io handles bounces for me.? Deciding what to do with them and subsequently never attempting a new message send to one.

It seems to me that an smtp relay is redundant to a group but I certainly wish to understand more if it isn't redundant
PLEASE, educate me.

Re: Third Party Relay

Thanks Shal,

I understand that it's all users - just thought maybe someone else has run into this.? Our delivery partner is not a mailbox provider, simply a delivery engine.? We have great delivery to inbox but we want some of the other features of Groups.io.??

If this is possible, there would be some kind of configuration for outbound mail (IMAP likely) in a setting in Groups.io.? I was hoping to avoid making a group but that may be the best way of finding out the config situation.

Thanks for the help.? - Ginny

Hello all. My name is Michael. I am a member of many groups, but recently created one myself. My question is about the owner email address, what happens when email is sent there? ?I hope to learn a lot.
Thanks.

Re: Third Party Relay

Ginny,

Basically, we want to have any emails coming from this group to be routed to our email delivery partner via an SMTP relay.

The only way I know to do that is to subscribe the email address of the partner to the Groups.io group, assuming the partner has an email address that would then forward the messages to the target destinations.
?
This would be done by entering SMTP address, username, and password into the group's Groups.io settings somewhere.

I don't think there is any facility to have group messages submitted directly to a mailbox provider in that way, with Groups.io acting as an SMTP email client.

You could post the idea in the Groups.io "suggestion box"; there someone from Groups.io (Mark) might respond to the request (no one in GMF works for Groups.io, we're all just users here).

This would be done by entering SMTP address, username, and password into the group's Groups.io settings somewhere.? I just was trying to figure out if this is possible before we become invested in this platform.

Does your platform allow us to set up a 3rd party outbound relay for the emails to our group?
If your group archives are public, group messages are available via an RSS feed. Just click the corresponding link, which should appear on your home page, to get the feed URL.?Private groups do not have this feature because anyone who knows the URL can use it as a "back door" to getting groups messages without subscribing.

Hope this helps,

All groups.io does when you click on the link is to send the file as a binary stream. What your system and browser subsequently does with that stream depends on how they are configured. Most computer browsers will permit a right-click on the resulting document display to bring up a "save as" dialog box. I can't speak to what your iphone is capable of doing.
