Transfer not working

Prasad Agrahar

Hi

I have been trying to transfer my Yahoo group over but no luck. I have sent (several times) invites?[email protected]?but apparently it is not sent out by the Yahoo system. To confirm I invited a friend and he too did not get the invite from the group. What are my alternatives??

TIA
Prasad

Marie Alline

Absolutely correct Bruce! If the compiled art is available broken up in different files, which is the case with both the messages available online and with the digests, people are more likely to pirate graphics. Copyright compliance is very important to me, therefore removing the objects of temptation are very desirable. Most of my members are very good and I don't have a problem with it normally, but once in awhile I get someone who is just looking for the opportunity to snag things that they should not, so it's those few I am concerned about. Thanks for your input!

Re: Who can see all pages of Directory?

Bruce,

Then is the converse true?. . .

So... If a member doesn't create a Group Profile for her/himself then her/his name won't show up to other members in the member list of a group.

Just curious.

Re: A subscriber can't receive messages at one account.

Sharon,

The member had two accounts ¡ª that¡¯s the odd thing.
I thought it was not supposed to be allowed, but maybe it is possible that the member ended up with one address listed as an alias of the other anyway - despite them being listed as separate accounts also.

You can tell if this is true, for the subscription(s) that still exist, by looking at their page from the Members list to see if it shows an Alias email address.

Re: Bouncing

Bob,

1. The person that is bouncing....his email address is evidently
hosted by GoDaddy ...
Typically, he would receive at most 20 emails per day from groups.io
That may be considered too many from a single sender, if it were not understood that the sender is an email list service.

Have the person try to contact their list service to whitelist Groups.io. You could post it (citing the member's Email Delivery History) to [email protected].

2. I also see that a lot of people using an Apple mail account are
bouncing with the following message -
I'd expect that Mark is already following their "best practices", with the possible exception of aligning the header From with the sender From, which they didn't state explicitly but hinted at with "Use a consistent From: name and address to clearly identify your brand".

Is there anything that can be done to correct this?
Not from your end. Encourage such group members not to mark group messages as spam, nor to fail to notice and mark as not spam any group messages that Apple might deliver to their junk folder instead of their Inbox. Beyond that you or the user could report the Email Delivery History item to [email protected].

Re: A subscriber can't receive messages at one account.

Sharon,

Both were subscribed to the list but when she posted from her
professional account, the copy would be posted as coming from gmail.
Oh, and what does that have to do with the Subject:

A subscriber can't receive messages at one account.
If the person has two subscriptions then (if they're both configured to receive group messages) both both should receive the message, regardless of which it appeared to be posted by.

With the caveat that Gmail won't display your own message coming back to you if you've unchecked that feature ("I always want copies of my own messages") in your account Preferences page.

Re: A subscriber can't receive messages at one account.

Sharon,

Both were subscribed to the list but when she posted from her
professional account, the copy would be posted as coming from gmail.
That would be the expected result if her account that logs in with the gmail address had her professional address listed as an alias.

Except that she either shouldn't have been able to have a separate account (and subscription) under her professional address; or that subscription should have taken precedence over the alias when it comes to posting under the professional address.

So already there seems to be a confusion or a bug afoot.

She has now deleted the gmail account on groups.io but the same thing
is still happening.
Um... Impossible?

Is her gmail address still subscribed to your group?

If so, then either she didn't actually delete that account or there's a bug there.

If not then either your group allows posts from non-subscribers or there's a bug there.

Ideas?
I would carefully examine the header of a recent posting from her to determine:

1) posted by email or via the group's web pages?

and if posted by email:

1a) which email service is the sender? and
1b) is the sender domain consistent with the domain in the header From?

I'd also look carefully at her subscription(s) to determine:

2) Does the subscription have an alias?
(if so this is listed below the Joined date and above the Role)

Then I'd use the above facts to determine how the post actually arrived in the group and whether that's consistent with my understanding of how Groups.io works, or if it should be reported as a bug.

Groups.io site updates #changelog

Hi all,

This week's change log:

Feel free to reply to this topic if you'd like to comment on the
changes. Or better yet, if you expect a lot of discussion start a new
topic (or rejoin an existing one) about a specific change.

NEW: You can export all of your account data.
A very cool feature for members who want to keep an archive of all of their posts and other contributions.

Comments about these others are also welcome:

SYSADMIN: Upgraded the mail email sending machine.
BUGFIX: When parsing an emoji (":emojiname:") that doesn't exist, the
trailing colon would disappear.
NEW: Timestamps are included in activity log exports.
BUGFIX: HTML special characters in calendar descriptions were not
properly escaped in generated ICS files.
NEW: You can export the activity log now as part of the export group
process, and exports are now logged.
INTERNAL: Increased nsqd message size limits for large export group
archives.

Please call out any you find significant.

Sounds to me like confusion on the part of her email client.? I think she has the email accounts linked somewhere.

Re: What does "Not Confirmed" mean?

Marina,

I agree that it is all a bit confusing.
Bruce gave a good rundown of the status and why it exists. If there's anything I can clarify in the Wiki let me know.
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Status-Badges-in-the-Members-List

Nevertheless, in the members' list they show with a NC badge. I sent
them a confirmation mail but nothing changed. I'm not sure what to do.
There's not much else you can do. Maybe those notices have landed in their spam folder, or they are simply ignoring them. If you have another way to reach those members you could try encouraging them to look for the confirmation notices and to follow the instructions in those emails.

On the other hand, we have a pending member who's been sitting there
for a quite while, since May 2. We sent him two confirmation mails
with no success. I checked his delivery history and found this message
dated May 3:
"2.6.0 <[email protected]>
[InternalId=11927124306244,
Hostname=DB5EUR03HT080.eop-EUR03.prod.protection.outlook.com]
8748 bytes in 0.308, 27.729 KB/sec Queued mail for delivery"
So, apparently, he did not even receive the two confirmation mails.
That's actually a success code (2.x.x) - so outlook.com is saying that it had queued the message for delivery to the member. Of course it doesn't say /where/ it will deliver the message - to the member's Inbox or Spam or elsewhere.

A subscriber can't receive messages at one account.

Subscriber has two addresses ¡ª one her professional account and one gmail account.

Both were subscribed to the list but when she posted from her professional account, the copy would be posted as coming from gmail.

She has now deleted the gmail account on groups.io but the same thing is still happening.

If you look at Marie Alline's sig line, she runs a couple of art groups that use embedded graphics. I'm sure restricting users to individual messages would be desirable in that case.

None that I'm aware of.? The delivery selections are up to the individual members.? If you don't already have it set, under Admin > Settings, you can select the Default Sub Settings tab and set it so that new members start with whatever you prefer, but they can always change it later.

Re: How long does the Yahoogroups conversion take

Marty,

Its been 4-5 days since I started the "automatic" switch from
Yahoogroups to Groups.IO. I sent the invite as directed from my
Yahoogroup. Heard nothing and gotten no response or updates.
There's about a two week backlog as of Thursday the 17th.

If you haven't, check the In Process page for you group transfer for any alerts or status.

Re: Transfer Successful - Took 10 Days

There was about a one day suspension in transfers last week when Yahoo Groups' CAPTCHA mechanism was not working. As of Thursday the 17th transfers have resumed, with about a two-week backlog.
