How long has it been since you realized the invite had to be sent from your Yahoogroup?? ? All the other attempts are meaningless.?

?

Have you checked your Yahoogroup to see if the invitation was accepted? (check your member list)

?

Once the invite has been accepted, then you need to go to the Easy Yahoo Transfer page and start the process.

Hi Tom

Have you clicked the green button "Start a New Transfer" and entered name of Yahoo group followed by name of the new group, etc? That is the Step 1. Inviting [email protected] is the second step and must be done after Step 1. There is clearly worded note saying this. If you just send invites without going through Step 1 it will not work.?

Good luck and 73

Any updates on GDPR?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Mark said some time ago that he was consulting his lawyers on matters relating to GDPR, and that he¡¯d get back to us when there was anything to tell us.

?

I haven¡¯t seen anything further on this, and GDPR is looming large. Have I missed something?

?

My groups are not used for marketing, and in fact have no commercial significance at all: they are purely technical discussion groups relating to specific IT technologies. I have seen no guidance relating to people in my situation who just happen to be the ¡®owner¡¯ or moderator of a group, that is not related to any kind of commercial or charitable organisation.

?

I¡¯d be grateful if anyone can give any concrete, specific, valid information on this. If your reply would include the words ¡®I am not a lawyer, but in my opinion ¡¡¯, please don¡¯t bother ¨C I don¡¯t need opinions from non-lawyers.

Re: Direct Add without Email to User #addmembers

Denver Fox,

I think that is what I'll need to do (hold off the Direct add until launch day).?

My mess in yahoo had all sorts of permutations (In Yahoo and shouldn't be, not in Yahoo and should be, Mismatch email address between Yahoo and our club, No name in yahoo, Mismatch name in Yahoo, etc).? All of these are being cleaned up as part of the move.? I'm doing this by exporting the Groups.IO member list into Excel and also exporting the Club member list from Word Press into that Excel and then writing formulas that highlight the discrepancies.? Then I fix the issues and repeat till I get a clean sheet.? By delaying the Direct Add of missing folks, I won't get that clean sheet till after go live but I can cope with that.?

Thanks for the suggestion.

Dan

Re: #membership #membership

What, exactly, is the deal with Slack Member Sync. Like Jeff, I was tempted to change over to groups.io exactly because of this advertised feature. But there is zero help anywhere on how to do this. I even pinged tech support and got crickets chirping for 3 days now.

Moderating Files & Photos?

If you have Files set to "subscribers can view, moderators can?upload" there is still an "Upload file" button when you click on the Files tab. ?If you click on it, it takes you through the upload file procedure, but when you click "Add" you are returned to the home page with a message at the top saying "You do not have permission to access that page." ?If that is the case, then why is the upload button there? ?(The upload button does not appear in the Photos section if it is set to the same permission level.)

Am I missing something? ?What I would like to do is "moderate" Files and Photos, requiring a moderator to approve them before posting. Is there a way to moderate File and Photos?

Peace,
Tom

Re: Excel Files on iPhone

I appreciate the response. I didn't run into this problem on Yahoo though. I'm not going to pretend to understand the differences between the two sites, just wondering if this is something that can actually be fixed by groups.io.

Re: Direct Add without Email to User #addmembers

Dr. Denver Fox

Why not just keep the "Direct Add" folks in a document, and copy and add them at the moment that the new forum is going to be active?

Re: Direct Add without Email to User #addmembers

Dan,

In the transfer tool, there is a check box that prevents emails going to the transferred members.

Is that still available? It is no longer in the initial list of checkboxes.
?
I want to do the same thing with my direct add.

You cannot.

You can add content to the message, but you can't eliminate the message entirely nor even edit the boilerplate that surrounds the customized section.
?
All members will be notified on the day we officially switch from Yahoo to Groups.IO so they will be notified at the right time.

It looks like Groups.io believes that "the right time" is when they are added. A mandatory part of the "You've been added" messages (for both transfers and Direct Add) is the opt-out link. I imagine that is there for abuse mitigation.

Direct Add without Email to User #addmembers

PACC Forums Admin

HI,

I'm trying to get a group transferred from Yahoo and clean up the membership in the process.? Until that clean up is done, I don't want to confuse people with messages from Groups.IO as they have not yet been informed about it.? It seems that over the years, many members of our club have never gotten onto Yahoo so were not included in the Transfer.? I want to now, do a direct add of those people.??

In the transfer tool, there is a check box that prevents emails going to the transferred members.? I want to do the same thing with my direct add.? In other words, I want to add a list of new people to both the Main group and one subgroup without them receiving an email about being added.? ?All members will be notified on the day we officially switch from Yahoo to Groups.IO so they will be notified at the right time.

How do I keep them from getting a notice when I do the direct add?

Thanks -- Dan?

I dont know how to let him know the name of the group.

Go to the Easy Yahoo Group Transfer page. You can get there from the Easy Group Transfer link at the bottom of any Groups.io page, then click the Yahoo Group Instructions button.

Read and follow the instructions. In particular, in Step 1 you click the green Start New Transfer button at the bottom of the page. That button will take you to the form where you specify which Y!Group is to be copied into which Groups.io Group, and what parts of the Y!Group to copy.

GMF's Wiki page Transferring from a Yahoo Group is incomplete, but offers additional tips and ideas.
?
I am not certain if I am allowed to give the name of my Y!Group here on this forum.

You are, but it is not necessary. When deciding what to post keep in mind that GMF's messages are public, so anything you post here can be found by anyone on the internet and will be indexed by web search engines.

What are my alternatives?

If your Y!group's Who can join is not set to By invitation only then the transfer agent may join (or request to join) the group without the invitation. Watch also for a notification (from your Y!Group) of a member joining (or needing approval).

Not in this context.

The ability to edit emails is available even for Basic groups, if you establish that in the Settings. Only in Premium groups can you edit a subscriber's email delivery address for them.

How do I know? I asked the same question as Noah did a couple months ago. The meaning of the features on the Pricing page is pretty ambiguous.

"Edit email" also means edit messages, I think. Or is that on a different page?

I have one group that uses messages as archives to store and find community information so members are allowed to edit their messages so they will be correct.

On another list, a discussion list, people often claim to have said or to not have said things others want to confirm. Members of that list are not allowed to edit messages.

It¡¯s working so far.
