I'm pretty sure that feature is unavailable to groups on the Basic plan. See??

This PNG is what Windows 10 Mail uses as a reply separator. Groups.io subsequently converts the embedded image into an attachment. I believe if you check her emails carefully, you'll find that if she posts a new topic, there is no such image showing up, only replies. But what often happens is that other subscribers will reply to her reply, and the PNG lands in the Emailed Photos Album all over again, spreading the disease.

Addressing this issue does appear in the groups.io "to do" list at?, but it does not appear to have a very high priority. Multiple remedies have also been proposed for this problem in beta, but none of them have been implemented.?

You can delete attachments by selecting "Edit Message" from the More menu. Check the Delete box next to the offending image and the blue "Save Without Sending" button. A notice will still be sent to the person who posted telling them that you edited their message, but at least you won't be bothering the entire group with it.

Another option is to approach the person doing this and beg them to use a different email client. I haven't found that approach to be very effective, though.

Hope something in here helps,

PNG file questions

Hi ,

I am trying to figure out an issue with a member's emails.

Whenever She posts a png file ends up in our emailed photo album, but there's no photo, it's just a blacked out spot with a line thru it.

When She posted a message today, without a photo this is what showed up in the album for emailed photos:

E3C3AA6DAAC74F14AF34F38C0CADFD4D.png

By Char Wilson
Uploaded: 1:00pm
Size: 292B

BUT there was no photo sent.
No graphic of any sort in her email, no 'stationary' used to send the email.

Mz. Wilson uses gmail to send emails.? Could that have something to do with this mystery?

I'd really love any advice and or help.? In under 2 weeks we've already gotten over 30 blank photos like this and it concerns me very much.

Thank you.

Map view option for database tables

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hi,

?

I found the example database table in beta for local food establishments and like the way it links to Google Maps. ?I¡¯ve exported that and created an identical table in my test group (on a free plan at present) but do not see the option to switch between map and list views.? I¡¯ve found messages on beta which suggest that this functionality has been around for a while so I¡¯m wondering why I don¡¯t see it. I have some questions therefore:

?

1 ¨C is this functionality still just in beta (and if so when is likely to be generally available)?

2 - is this functionality restricted to subscription plans?

3 ¨C the column names in the beta table for address values are all prefixed with ¡®Address:¡¯.? Is this a requirement to determine address fields that link to a Google search?

4 ¨C Are the US address fields names (such as City, State & Zip) mandatory or could they be UK equivalents (Town, County & Postcode)?

?

?

Thanks,

Andy

Re: Moderate subgroup only?

Andy,

What I¡¯d like to do is have a member of a primary group have moderator
privileges to subgroup without being able to moderate the primary
group also. Is that possible and if so, how is it done?
Yes.

From within the subgroup's Members list you can change a member's role to Moderator.

While moderators and owners of the primary group automatically have that role in all subgroups, the reverse is not true.

Re: @user name query

Short answer:? At this point, the sitewide username serves no purpose whatsoever.

Long answer:? See?/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/25677383?

Hope this helps,

@user name query

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hi,

?

If an email address is the username by which someone signs in to groups.io then what is the purpose of the ¡®@user name¡¯ field that can be set on the account identity page?? I can¡¯t see any reference to it in the static help or in the messages or Wiki on the GMF.

?

Thanks,

Andy

Putting my geezerhood on display:? Back in the days when the was more prevalent, it was widely understood that sending an empty message to the list help address would return an automated message summarizing available email commands. After all, that's the only interface that was available...the web did not exist.

If I'm not mistaken, emails to the group help address in Yahoo Groups perform similarly, and I believe Mark is trying to provide identical functionality via groups.io. If today's subscribers find this to be confusing perhaps the simplest thing to do is to eliminate it.?

Re: Where do Emails sent to the Group Help email go?

Hmm, sounds to me that the address / label is wrong. Perhaps should be About.

I would have thought that the moderator, or group owner would be notified.?

I would be annoyed if I painstakingly wrote an email about a problem and that¡¯s all I got in response. ?Perhaps it should include a suggestion to copy, paste and send the email to the group owner or to the group. Or a suggestion to try the Help or GMF wiki.?

Perhaps the the email address was simply a placeholder when developed a few years ago.?

Re: Where do Emails sent to the Group Help email go?

Paul,

Re: [GMF] Where do Emails sent to the Group Help email go?
They don't really "go" anywhere, in the sense of a place where you might access them. They are apparently not even logged in the group's Activity log.

What they do is trigger an automated reply giving information about the group, including the Group Description and Email Commands.

... a group member wrote to the group wondering why her email request
for help was not answered.
If she didn't see the automated response it may have gone to her spam folder. The response is:

From: Groups.io <[email protected]>
Subject: Automated help for the [email protected] group
Where that would be the group name in question, rather than GMF, in the subject.

Brandy,

A link to instructions. Excellent.
I've added a screen shot (thanks Bruce!) and other information to the wiki page.

Where do Emails sent to the Group Help email go?

Hi All,

I have not seen this posted and was not aware that this email address existed until a couple of days ago when a group member wrote to the group wondering why her email request for help was not answered.

If you are not aware of this, go to the home page of this group, scroll down and under the email address list is
[email protected]

Thank You,
Paul, Ohio, USA

I think that wiki page could use a screen shot of the Direct Add page, if anyone here has a Premium Group and could add one to the wiki page. Or just post it in reply here (and with your permission I'll add it to the wiki page).

Likewise, if anyone has written instructions for creating the Direct Add list using a text editor or other means.

Re: Yahoo transfers disabled #pgoffline

Brandy,

I have downloaded both the CSV and TSV member files from Yahoo groups.
Once I have premium, how do I properly use either or on groups.io to
directly add my members?
Either will need a little manipulation to put into the Direct Add format, so use whichever you feel most comfortable editing.

For me, that's CSV opened in Excel. Here's a step-by-step:
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Direct-Add-From-Yahoo

The author of that page used Excel formulas to create the required text in a single column, built from the columns exported by Yahoo. He even did a translation of each member's posting privileges. That one column could then be copied and pasted into the box on the Direct Add page (or saved to a text file and uploaded).

However, I think much the same thing can be achieved with the Search and Replace functions of your favorite text editor. Though I'll admit I've never tried that method.

Thank you, Donald and Shal for your follow-up suggestions. I'm seriously considering the Premium for a month because it's easiest to transfer members.

Re: Yahoo Group DATA Migration

Yvonne,

I need to archive all the messages, files and attachments on the Yahoo
Group then upload them all to our new group here on Groups.io.
Except for the attachments, the Yahoo Group Transfer function at Groups.io would have been your perfect answer. Alas, Yahoo / Verizon made some change a few weeks ago that broke it. Mark Fletcher (developer of Groups.io) has been on vacation most of the time since then.

/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups

I don't have any idea how likely it is that he'll be able to fix the problem. In the mean time I suggest checking with Personal Groupware. Their PG Offline product, if it still works, can download a copy of your Yahoo Group's content to your computer. There is no known path from there to Groups.io, but at least you'd have a backup.

Alternately, there are applications that can be loaded into the Chrome browser to download your Yahoo Group's Members and Messages, given some technical effort. The members list you can Direct Add to your new Groups.io group (for a $10 one-month upgrade to Premium), the messages are downloaded in a format which Groups.io support may be able to copy into your Groups.io group:

Re: Yahoo Group DATA Migration

Groups.io will migrate the content for you

[mod note: that would have been true a month ago. Right now the transfer process has been disabled due to some change made by Yahoo / Verizon, see . It is unknown if or when the Yahoo Group transfer function will be operational again.]
