Actually you can.? You can set a starting point of the Max Attachment Size for new members in the Default Sub Settings page or you can change their current setting on their membership page under Advanced Preferences.

Judy; Although you didn't answer the questions I posed I think there is a major clue in the sentence you passed on from one of your members, and I think I have just about managed to interpret other comments to "sort of" work out (some of) the answers I was looking for.?

You included an attachment showing your Attachment Settings, but in fact there are others that are also important. Further down the Settings page there is a section for Photos. See this:

The important setting here is Max Size in Email. What is yours set to? If it is set to No resizing then you may find that the graphics being uploaded are enormous which will sooner or later clog up your storage, depending on your group "type" and thus the available storage limit. I am a little relucant to suggest a specific size for you; it may take some experimentation on your part to find the smallest size that gives an acceptable image to Subscribers.

There is also a relevant Setting that Subscribers have to set for themselves; you cannot do it for them. The Groups.io Help Page includes the following paragraph:

Max Attachment Size allows you to opt out of receiving attachments that are larger than a limit you set. This is useful if you have a metered or limited connection, or limited storage space for attachments. Instead of receiving the attached file, you will receive a link to it so you may open it from the group's web pages.

The underlining is mine and is added for emphasis because your "reporter" mentioned receiving a link. This setting can be found by each Subscriber by going to their Subscription page, and scrolling down to Adanced Preferences. There is an arrow at the right hand side, which when clicked reveals this:

Scroll down this section until this appears:

Again I don't want to make any recommendation, but if set to too small a size the result will be that a link is sent rather than the attachment itself.

In all cases when any Setting is changed it must be followed by clicking on Update Group in the case of the Owner/Moderators' Settings page or by clicking Save in the case of the Subscription page. Both functions are at the very bottom of their respective pages.

I strongly suggest that you check your storage used using the guidance in the GMF wiki here; Scroll down the page to find it. I also strongly suggest that you go to the Photos section on your web UI and have a look at Emailed Photos to see if the attachments are properly visible there. By further examination you will be able to determine their "file sizes", after which you should be better able to judge what the setting for Max Size in Emails ought to be.

I think that just about covers things... for now anyway.

Chris

I wasn't told where the red X's are located, but I assumed in the upper left corner of where the graphic is supposed to be.? The text is going through, but not the graphic.? The graphics COULD be in jpg, psp, or png.? There isn't much in the way of text, but occasionally it will be there.? That is being received fine, it's just the graphics that is the problem.? The graphics are sent with both attachment and a picture of what's being sent.? It's the "what's being sent" that is the problem.? They do get the attachments, but they've no idea what they're downloading.??One of my members did a test message, here is what she saw:?? The test revealed that in the email you see an X with a box around it and the attachment is a link. It shows fine in the message archives.

Judy; you haven't stated where your members are getting "red X's".

Are they manifesting themselves in messages to the Group, or in the Photo Archive? (Or perhaps both)

If the former, what do members who read group traffic by email get?

In what format are the "graphics"? Are they, for example, jpg like photographs?

I am wondering if they are in a format that Groups.io doesn't "like".

Are the graphical images being sent as attachments? If so, what are your Attachment Settings?

Databases: Changing Row Ownership

Jen White

I've read all the previous posts on Editing Databases. I see that there have been requests to create the software permission to allow group owners/moderators to change the Row Owner. Has this change been implemented? I can't seem to do it.

I transferred a group from Yahoo Groups to Groups.io and the only odd part I've found so far (aside from the links being lost) is that every entry in the database is "owned" by the former owner of the old Yahoo group. I can't seem to change this so it appropriately links each row to its group member's profile.?

In lieu of having every group member recreate a new row, which may receive limited compliance, I would like to enter my vote for a software change that permits group owners/moderators to edit the Row Owner. Thanks.?

So far, our members are very pleased with the switch to Groups.io

Hi and thanks for all you attention to my issue.

Turns out I had entered the address for the group incorrectly at some time and it stayed in the computer (and I guess in my mind.) : )

The only difference was oi vs io. : )

So all is well, at least as well as it can be for me!

Thanks again, ?George

You may have run out of storage space. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Managing-Attachments%2C-Files-and-Photos?for symptoms and remedies.

Re: Help needed with apple mail

I joined George's group yesterday
OR /g/phhs1960

and then sent a message to it using my 2 year old MacBook Pro (Mojave OS 10.14.8) and Apple's Mail Version 12.4 (3445.104.11) which are the current versions
FWIW, I clicked on <[email protected]> (in the "Welcome to [email protected]" message I received when I joined) to address my email.

I also emailed him with suggestions to check the group's Activity Log, to post direct from his Email Provider's web-based email website (gmail.com), to consider updating his Operating System and/or version of Apple Mail, and to check if his "Account > Preferences > Web Site Preferences > Email Preferences > My Posts" was set to: 'I always want copies of my own messages'.

If any of the advice you've received resolves your problem, please report back.
His Test message (#2 for his group) on July 15,
was replied to this morning (#3 for his group) by one of the other 5 members of his group,
just before my message (#4 for his group) (which required approval) was posted.
Therefore we know a MacBook Pro can use Apple Mail to post to his group...

I have yet to hear back from him, perhaps the challenge is with his email, not Groups.io.

I have recently opened a paint shop pro group, so that means a lot of graphics are sent to the group.? For some reason my settings aren't working, the people in the group just keep getting red X's.? Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?? I'm very willing to use teamviewer so you can look at what I've got if that would help.

Collapsed Entries in Activity Log

I must be missing something obvious.

When I view the Activity Log in my main group, all the entries initially show up complete, only to collapse down to two lines of text and an ellipsis. How can I override this behavior? Failing that, is there any way to "click open" a log entry so I can read the whole thing?

Thanks,
Bruce

Re: Help needed with apple mail

I use Version 11.5 (3445.9.1) linked to my gmail account.
OS 10.14.8 (Mojave) and Mail Version 12.4 (3445.104.11) are current

You might want to update:

your Operating System
Apple Menu > System Preferences > Software Update

your version of Mail
Apple Menu > App Store... > Updates

For one-off messages, you can also type something in the editor found in that same block. If you don't select anything, the canned groups.io message is all that is sent.

Really handy for those who need it...but for those who don't, it's little more than another hoop to jump through. As soon as I saw how Mark set things up, my first thought was "we're going to hear about this a lot in GMF over the next few weeks." Although I do like the new feature, it required me to re-train the guy who does our invites.?
