Active is no longer needed for Invite (or Direct Add), now you can choose the pre-written Invite notice you want to start with from a drop-list on the Invite page (instead of having to select it by making one Active on the Member Notices page).

Any edits you make on the Invite page to further customize the notice will no longer be saved back to the stored notice.

Also, as previously mentioned, until very recently, the Invite customised message went along with the invites by default.

No.

Hi All,

Our group has a customised invite message for people who meet our membership requirements. Up until recently our message could be seen on the said page and was sent out with each invite. However, today I find that the customisation has mysteriously gone. I'm currently the only admin handling this side of things so there is no one else that could have deleted it and I know I didn't. However, my more pressing concern is finding the wording, which was perfect. I have looked in admin activity but cannot see the entire message. I use Apple Mail and have for years. While it has other endearing traits, that hasn¡¯t been one of them.

The first time I glanced at ¡°phhs¡±, however, I saw ¡°phish¡±. Could something else be seeing that?

How do you close (finish) a poll?
Polls should not be closed unexpectedly - which may appear that it was done to lock in a favored result.

If fair and accurate results are desired:
Polls should be publicized well ahead of time - I would suggest at least 1 month.

Advance publicity should include:
- Start and stop dates and times - I would suggest at least a 1 week duration.
- What the questions and choices will be - these should not be changed less than 2 weeks before the poll.
- Any changes should be announced immediately - in the same manner, with all Poll information.
- Who can vote.
- How to vote - including log in instructions (or at least a link to them).
- Whether the results will be revealed, and if so, how and when - I would suggest in the same manner as the Poll's announcements.

Yes.

Bouncing status is tied to the member's email address (account) and
affects all of that account's group subscriptions.

This one threw me when I first saw it in beta...I don't recall there ever being a "Member Sync" button in Settings. Eventually I came to realize that the previous Slack Integration is now gone, and that's what Mark means by "Service Sync."

So for those who were using the Slack integration, please take note; it hasn't been eliminated, but it has been moved.

This week's change log:



Feel free to reply to this topic if you'd like to comment on the
changes. Or better yet, if you expect a lot of discussion start a new
topic (or rejoin an existing one) about a specific change.


NEW: In Direct Add and Invite, you can now select the member notice to
include in the page. Edits to the member notice are no longer saved
to the member notice. Also, in Member Notices, no direct add or
invite notices are labeled as Active.
This fixes a longstanding inconsistency in how these two types of Member Notice are handled. I'm happy not to have an ad-hoc personalization get saved and potentially be sent as part of my next Invite or Direct Add.


NEW: There's a new 'File Sync' button in Members, for the new file
sync functionality. You can now sync your membership to a file. This
is restricted to premium groups only and to parent groups only.
This could be useful for my PTA group, where we have an annual turnover in membership. "Parent groups"? I didn't know that was a thing. Hmm...


Comments about these are welcome:

CHANGE: When resending a pending member notification, we now prepend
'Resend: ' to the subject line.
BUGFIX: Fixed infinite scroll in the group hashtags view.
CHANGE: Moved 'Member Sync' button from Settings to Members, and
renamed it 'Service Sync'. Also cleaned up formatting of the page.
CHANGE: In the /groups page, changed the wording of individual
delivery for better consistency.
BUGFIX: The example text in the invite screen did not always have the
correct group name in some enterprise groups.
BUGFIX: On the search results page, the drop down for each topic had
'Edit Subject' listed twice.
BUGFIX: With Auto Moderate Threads, we were sometimes ignoring the #
of days and moderating all threads created in the past day.
API: Misc formatting improvements to the API docs.
API: New hashtag endpoint: /gethashtags.
API: Added new draft endpoints: /newdraft, /updatedraft, /getdrafts,
/deletedraft, /uploadattachment, /getattachments,

CHANGE: We now strip out the tracking image from Superhuman emails.

This seems like a solution in search of a problem.
I can see how someone would think that if they've never been in that situation. Having been through two group transfers, one voluntary and one caused by the abandonment of an owner, I understand that this is something that groups.io is going to have to face, if they haven't already.

We have also heard from owners who added a second owner and were then pushed out of their own groups. I've had a similar situation where I transferred ownership of a group to another person because I didn't have the time. That person later made a new person an owner, and that person then kicked most of the original members off. Any time you're dealing with humans and bestowing authority, a lot of unexpected things can happen.

I don't know if Mark has any kind of an unwritten policy on this, or if it's something he deals with on a case-by-case basis. I can understand how he would need to be the ultimate arbitrator in strange cases, but if an owner had a way to indicate preferred succession, that might be helpful to him.

Andy; the point Shal made above is covered in the Members who use an Email Client UI section of the Removed for marking a message as spam wiki mentioned several posts ago. Can you confirm that you are (or are not) trying to educate gmail at gmail's UI, not at Outlook 365's UI.

Alternatively, you might have a spam filter operating within Outlook 365 independent of Gmail's filters, and that filter might not be updated by the actions you're taking.
A good point; I am still using Outlook 2003 (!!) and that has a "Junk" folder that operates entirely separately from my ISP's spam filtering.

My ISP was far too enthusiastic about declaring Groups.io traffic as spam to the point that I turned its spam filter off completely; fortunately (and this is tempting fate) I get very little "genuine" spam so any inconvenience arising is minimal, and FWIW my ISP marks anything it is not entirely happy with as either Spam or Suspect in the subject line. Interestingly (or not!) this does not prompt Outlook to route it into the Junk folder.

I'm surprised by this. I've had no problem with Gmail misclassifying notifications from Groups.io once I marked a first few as "not spam".

I am using outlook 365 so if anyone has any ideas how to stop this
from happening please let me know.
I don't use Outlook 365, but I do use an email client (Thunderbird) to read my messages from Gmail (IMAP protocol). For the purpose of marking a message as spam or not spam I always go to the Gmail web interface - I don't know for a fact that such an action taken in Thunderbird would communicate back to Gmail, so I don't rely on that. If you are taking your actions within the Outlook interface that could be the problem.
