Unfortunately, you have no control over someone's email program.? There's no setting on GIO that could prevent this.

How to change the visibility of the archives / messages of my group

Hi,
Today my group is set with the " Archives are visible to subscribers only".
I would like to switch to the "Archives are visible to anyone".

Could you explain to me how to make this change of visibility of the archives ??
Thank you.
Regards

Re: Custom Invite Question

Unless you deleted the Yahoo group wouldn't it be simpler to post the message/invite to the Yahoo group? Preface with 'If you haven't already joined us at groups.io ' perhaps? Late to the discussion I know but just a thought.

"Reply All" and "cc" issues

A member of my group recently sent an email message to someone not in our group, and cc-ed the message to our group, using our full groups.io address (something he has repeatedly been told not to do, but he persists!). The recipient replied using "Reply All", resulting in his reply being received by everyone in our group, even though the sender isn't in our group, and is not therefore authorised to post to our group. Not only that: all subsequent "Reply All" exchanges between group and non-group recipients were sent to everyone in our group. I didn't realize this was possible. This has raised security issues for us, which we clearly need to address internally. In the meantime I'd be grateful if someone on this forum could advise if it is possible to change the settings for our group to ensure we don't experience a similar breach in the future.

Many thanks
Barry

I've also found entries for:
because the topic is moderated
because the user is moderated

In the second case, it applies whether it's permanent moderation or NuM.

Thanks Duane,

Yes, I did know I could change it, just never got round to doing it, because I rarely do anything on the home page, all the messages come in to my mail program, and I send from there.

It¡¯s only when I am doing a bit of maintenance that I see these things..

My motto? If it aint broke¡.

Did you know that you can change that?? In your Account - Preferences, it can be set to 20, 50, 100, or Infinite Scroll.? I've found that Infinite Scroll doesn't work on same pages, so stick to a fixed number.

Re: #featurerequest Request for Cover Image caption #featurerequest

Instead of periods to force the image display, replace each period with this text:
? ?

The browser should render this as a space.

Minor change to activity log -- moderation entries

On January 3, activity log entries changed slightly...it now gives a reason why each post goes into moderation.

For example, corresponding log entries in GMF now say "requires approval because the group is moderated." I guess we can assume if a message went into moderation for some other reason (e.g.: a hashtag setting, a subscriber's posting override, non-member sent the message, etc.) the entry would reflect that.
?
I do like this change but don't see any mention of it in beta.

Bouncing Messages

Hi,
When I go to the ¡°Members Section¡±& then ¡°Bouncing¡± I see a list of 15 members listed. I¡¯ve sent several ¡°Send Bounce Prob¡± however the members are still present on the list? Thanks,

navigating page numbers

Thanks Bruce,

I¡¯ve just played with the ¡°technical¡± suggestion, and that works fine, as long as I remember what page I was on.. lol¡ If I didn¡¯t get back to it for a few days, I¡¯d have no idea¡ except, knowing that there are 20 messages to a page and I wanted approximately page 40 (example), I could multiply 20 by 40 and use that result and I¡¯d be pretty close.

However, your first suggestion is the one I¡¯ll go by. I¡¯ve made a folder in my bookmarks called ¡°deleting attachments¡± and made the current page a bookmark¡ then when I¡¯ve done more deletions I¡¯ll make a bookmark for the new page and delete the old one¡ easier on old minds¡ lol..

?

Shal, thanks for your suggestion too, something to think about¡ I usually have 7 or 8 tabs open, and most times I close them one at a time (when I¡¯m closing the computer down) and when I¡¯m at the last tab I close the program (Firefox)¡ under those conditions, would your suggestion open just the last tab I had, or would it open all the tabs I previously had open as well? That would be a real pita¡ something for me to test, I guess.

?

Thanks again to both of you.

I¡¯m currently on page 31 and don¡¯t want to have to start at page 1 again and click? on the arrow to advance one page at a time to get back to 31.

Win -- Short answer:? Bookmark the page in your browser and use that to come back next morning.

Longer, more technical answer:? If you look at the URL displayed in the address bar of your browser, the query string (part after the question mark) will increment by your "items per page" setting as you advance through the list. In your case there should be a "600" as the next-to-last entry in that string...this tells groups.io to start displaying attachments at the 600th entry (base zero addressing).

If you look at this sequence of comma-separated values, the first is the items per page, the second represents the sort key, the third the starting record, and I don't know what the fourth is. Try entering different numbers and see what happens.

Hi Janel,
Just a guess - has the user logged out and logged in again since you made him moderator? I can imagine that the moderator settings only become effective after a fresh login.

He's probably either not logged in at all, or is logged in with a different email address (one that doesn't have Moderator permissions).

Have him look at the Home button at upper left. If it doesn't display a baby-blue "Mod" badge, then he's not logged in as a Moderator.

Re: Custom Invite Question

Hi Cindy,

I think giving reasons for asking if there is a way to do that has caused a lot of commotion, a lot of discussion, a lot of debating. I don't know whether the moderators here think that is good or bad as a result.
Generally speaking we're fine with discussing alternative ways to achieve a desired result and their pros and cons. That kind of brainstorming can be helpful to other readers as well as to the original poster.

So given the no you cant take that out answer, I'm just going to hope that the people actually read what I have written ...
One thing that might help, and maybe you've already found it, is the Horizontal line button in the second row of the formatting toolbar.

I've found that putting the group's customized text inside lines can help draw the invitee's attention.

I think this technique also helps draw attention away from the boilerplate text by clearly separating it from the customized text.

Our IO group is set to subscribers require approval.? And IO is assuming we sent the invite to someone we already approve.? If you check on the link you provided for pending subscription notice, it says you cant use it with an invitation.
The Pending Subscription notice won't be sent if the invitee accepts the invitation, but it will be sent if the recipient uses the home page button or the +subscribe command to join on their own. Presumably your are instructing them to use one of those two methods.

Note that there are two ways for the recipient to accept the invitation: they can click the link in the boilerplate or simply reply to the invitation by email. If you look at the invitation as received you will notice that the From address is specially coded to accomplish the acceptance for that particular invitee.
