#csv
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI¡¯ve just clicked on ¡°download¡± on the members page and see what looks like to me a page of gobbled-gook¡ lol. I realise that it a csv file and I have Excel (not that I know much about it), but I need to know how to get something that is printable and makes sense. I have only a small membership so it is probably easier for me just to take a few screen captures of the membership pages and paste them in to Word. Thanks for any help. Win |

But the archives could be public for the readers and web search.. I am very disapointed with that. Thank you Duane for your answer. JJ |

A note about Display names -
?
Display names can be unique to the group the user belongs to. They do not carry across with the user?to other groups. If you add or change a display name for a user in one group, it won't add or change it for other groups.
?
On two of my groups we require real names. We've found that people may often know each other or ancestors of a member, if they can see the name, and that encourages conversation. On Y! I was constantly moderating members for leaving them out. On groups.io I just change their display names for the group and don't have to worry about the problem. Yes, users can change it themselves, but most don't because they don't see it anywhere else. And unless I notice a post that doesn't conform, I don't worry about it.

Re: Custom Invite Question
Cindy in DE
I have also completely changed our YG Homepage to say we have moved and how to join our group on IO.
?
So if someone is curious enough to maybe go to YG and look at our homepage (wondering why things are not working right, if they didnt read my email, or get it, or it went to spam), they can find the link to join us at IO from there.
?
Thanks for your suggestion

Re: navigating page numbers
Win,
? I had received a lengthy posting from one of our members on this very topic last night.? He asked if there was a way to just JUMP to a page number vs. the click on the arrows forward and back.? Many sites offer an input box right next to the page number like yours shows as 31.? It would be to the left.? Then the numbers and arrows on each side.?? I thought, how clever that I didn't notice GroupsIO not having this ability. ? My only solution to give to all of our members was, there is a search button at the top. Click on it and enter a keyword to search for.? ? At Yahoo Groups there was a weird way to narrow down the search.? Knowing the year and month allowed you to pick on the area when a message was posted back in time.? It's very quirky at best.? The funny thing is, GroupsIO uses the SAME type of system at the bottom of the main page to the group.? ? Back in the days of CompuServe and Prodigy message systems in use, each started thread had an unique ID number as well as the subject line.? If you knew the ID number, no matter where you were in the system, it would immediately place you there when clicked on or entered in the search field.? The pre-Internet era had some decisive and quick tools like this in the day because nobody in their right mind would spend HOURS looking for a few mere pages on 2400bps modems.? Now, here is the neat part.? GroupsIO has the ability to JUMP to a Message Number.?? So, rather than focus on a certain page number, look at the message number you had left off at.? :) This sure beats making dozens of bookmarks in a browser and then having to figure out what bookmark took you where. ?
