Error message at retrying yahoo transfer #transfer #yahoo #issue

Heijo Alting

Dear all,

A couple of weeks ago I aborted my first attempt to move a yahoogroup to io because nothing seemed to happen. Now, with my second attempt, on entering the same yahoogroup name as in the first attempt, I'm confronted with an error message. What can I do to solve this. Does someone at io have to 'reset' something before I can start again? The error message on entering the yahoogroup name (a valid name of an existing group) was:That is not a valid Yahoo Group.

I have been meaning to raise this for a few days. I am as certain as I can be that this feature used to work fine, but it certainly doesn't at the moment.

Like Jack I am in the UK, and his message is logged at 09:23 UK time, but in the !quote" above his message time is given as 01:23... exactly 8 hours different as Jack reported.

As far as I can see it isn't a question of "Settings" being out of kilter, so it may be better to report it on beta, but before I do I would be keen to know if anyone else is seeing this, and has perhaps reported it themselves.

Chris

Re: Message Time Zones #timezone

On a similar vain. It appears that when you 'blockquote' in your reply from an existing message, the header of the blockquote as well as showing the originator shows the time in Pacific time?, even though tour Site is set for UTC (GMT+1). All messages show the correct time. Is there something I need to set-up to overcome this?

Thanks

Re: Automatic Unsubscribes?

Patty,

If we had the ability to send a group email to all unsubbed list
members and use our private email address, versus the group email
address ... That way, again, the message would have a much better
chance of landing in their Inbox folder.
Maybe. Groups.io could forge your address into the From field, but the receiving service can detect that the message did not in fact originate with your email provider. That can make such a message much less likely to be delivered than one that actually did originate at your service, and possibly less likely than one from Groups.io that has Groups.io in the From address.

(Yahoo Groups gave mods that option, to send via the group email
address, or your personal email address).
Groups.io does too. I don't have a Premium group to test with, but one could probably generate the message you're after to those in the "prior" members list (whatever it is called). Except for the resume link - that would be a new feature.

Re: User deleting own post

Maybe you can explain to them you do not want posts deleted, except if they are really awful posts, and if they keep on deleting their posts delete them.

Kleibe,

If the user has Owner or Moderator privileges they may still be able to delete messages even if this setting is set. The setting is for ordinary members.

Kleibe,

There is no ability to prevent a member from deleting their own content (posts, files, photos, etc.) - except gentle persuasion. That's by design.

?Hi. What you can also do, is go to that member and questions page and set the option that says that the person is not allowed to post. This means that the member will not be allowed to ?post to your group.
Thanks.

Per K&R, EOF is an INTEGER, as returned from a function call trying to read a data stream. It is traditionally -1.?

It is neither a character nor a data terminator.

Back in the 70s when I first began doing computer programming, Hollerith cards used a string of 9s as an end-of-data indicator.

I apologize to all for continuing this off-topic thread and only do so with the hope of putting an end to it.

Admin->Settings->Message Policies->Disable Editing Posts.

And before you ask, there is no way to allowing editing without allowing deletion.

I just stop paying attention to a thread when people do not include enough context in a response to make it understandable.

The concept is much older than that. I remember using a special EOF character
(although we didn't call it that) on a 1st generation computer, where input and
output was punched cards only. The character told the machine to stop reading
cards and switch off the card reader. Every program and most input data files
had to end with that character.

and you want to notify or email from to all four from your main group?

Thanks,

Tom,

I initiated a Yahoo group transfer yesterday and the transfer was completed this evening. Admittedly, it was a group with very little content, but all the messages, members, files, photos and database content transferred over intact. It was a free account group, so no special treatment as might be seen by a paying customer.
