Re: member unsubscribed for 'marking a message as spam'?

I agree. I have a hotmail account (now Outlook), and there are a couple of regular senders whose emails always go into the Junk folder, no matter that I mark them Not Junk every time!

Re: member unsubscribed for 'marking a message as spam'?

No one action is a solution for all emailers but it is worth trying

If I remember rightly, BT like Sky use Yahoo as a service under their own branding (I have both) or have they moved again?

My suggestion for a solution for your problem is use another service, such as gmail which doesn't have the problem you have

("All" in this case being traffic from the one group I moderate; my preferred modus operadum is to use the web UI) Marking messages as "Not Spam" was completely ineffective; it carried on shunting them aside. My previous solution was to disable the spam filter but this option was not available under the new regime, and on its own admission BT had / has no means of whitelisting.

The only solution was to load Groups.io per group sending addresses into the ISP's webmail Contacts List, and with one exception this method has been successful. Simply trying to teach BT not to declare Groups.io emails as Spam was a waste of time, and without knowing how other ISPs react to attempted training I for one would not recommend that as a solution.

"Sticky"

I realize there is a "sticky" option to keep a particular post on the top of the list in Topics view.? But when the Message view is utilized, there is no such option, and that view is really where I really want a "sticky" option.? I and my other members are always using the "Messages" view, not the "Topics" view.

Has there ever been a discussion of considering that?

The link on that email is valid for 7 days. You'll need to invite them again after that or they need to reapply themselves.

Re: member unsubscribed for 'marking a message as spam'?

Have they looked in their spam folder online

That is where it probably is (given they have already been unsubscribed for marking as spam or their emailer has deleted a groups.io post after 30 days which is the norm)

If they find its there and mark as "not spam" which returns it to their inbox they may not have the problem again

Spam filters need training and by marking as "not spam" its teaching the filters

I agree, Nivard. And I'd add - inconveniences come with the territory of being a moderator. Some you can get around and some you can't. I believe this is the latter and I've done what can to make my members' lives, and mine, as easy as possible, including having two other moderators to spread the work out.

This is one of MANY, MANY, MANY issues that less savvy users face when dealing with tech, and Mark has made it as easy as humanly possible for users and moderators to deal with it.?

Re: member unsubscribed for 'marking a message as spam'?

Hi Lori

Its been discussed many times here, its not something groups.io want to do, its imposed on them but they need to comply to provide a service

Have you posted a warning to your subscribers about the possibility of being unsubscribed? and how to get back in the group?

Explain it may not be something *they* do that cause it but their email provider auto deleting from their spam folder

Its really *very* easy to get back in the group, one click and its done
(and is all explained in the message they receive)

In eight months I have had 11 (of well over a thousand subscribers), two were repeat offenders and all but two resubscribed immediately

The vast majority of my subscribers cannot be described as young either ;-)

If you have subscribers actions set to inform you (Subscription > Membership > Moderator Notifications > Members :-) by email, you will get a message to say XXX has been unsubscribed for marking a post as spam, and then one when they resubscribe, so the only ones you would need to check are those where you only get the unsubscribe due to spam

Reading messages on a Wordpress site?

Please forgive me if this has been answered - I've been searching in this group but perhaps my search terms were insufficient.

Like so many groups, ours used to be a Yahoo group. Some people really liked being able to log into Yahoo to read all the messages, much like the Messages tab on groups.io, and others preferred email. We've moved our whole site to WordPress, and the person running it has implemented a message board which is clunky as can be and has no email function, so for anyone to see what's going on they have to periodically log in to the site. I've been advocating moving to groups.io (I even did the Yahoo export way back when), but the person running our site will only accede to it if it can be integrated into WordPress.

In other words, is there a way to embed the Messages tab from a groups.io group into a website??

By going from a mailing list to a message board, I fear we've lost a MASSIVE percentage of our community.

Comparing email headers from your message ... both follow the form
"username=domain<at>groups.io".
There are other circumstances where Groups.io applies DMARC rewriting. One is me receiving my own messages back, because otherwise Gmail puts up a big bright and annoying warning about the message not actually being from me. But Gmail's inbound processing doesn't seem to object to other addresses being spoofed, even other Gmail addresses.
Just closing the loop on this. Changing DMARC from p=none to p=reject in fact had no effect on the From header for messages back to myself. Maybe it changed for messages sent to others--I am no longer receiving DMARC failure reports re. groups.io. Wish there was comprehensive documentation about header re-writing and DMARC--it's frustrating to be trying to piece together how this works. Thanks Shal for carrying the historical feature update index in your head!

Re: video clip storage

Beth
we have a vid saved in the files - it was actually a transfer over from YahCHOO! I believe.?

I created a folder ¡°wiki_files¡± and store any wiki stuff there so I can easily find and edit in the future. So?you could create a sort of Vid index page on wiki if you have a lot of vids and link to each one or groups of vids in different folders. ?Or do the same in a sticky message that you just update/save (or resend) if editing is turned on. ?I do that with a continuing boater safety message that has updated info (PDFs, not vids) every so often.?

And of course you can attach a vid right to a message (unsure where on G.io that gets saved?)
