Is the email address you're sending from already subscribed to the group?

If so, nothing will happen...not even an error message.

You must have a Basic group. Only Premium and above can confirm members without their intervention.

The buttons displayed are Save/ Send message/ Remove/ Ban/ Send Confirmation Email
Check the box next to the person with the NC bade and select Send Confirmation Email from the Actions menu. The subscriber will have to respond to this email to remove the badge.

23.3.3 Confirming members who are marked as Not Confirmed
In a Premium or Enterprise group, owners and moderators can confirm members who requested to join the group but have not yet responded to the confirmation message sent by Groups.io. These members are marked with a Not Confirmed ? badge in the member list.

To confirm a member who is marked as Not Confirmed:
1. Display the membership record of the member whose membership you want to confirm.
2. Go to the bottom of the member¡¯s page and click the Confirm button.
Note: In a restricted Premium or Enterprise group, if you approve a pending member who is not yet
confirmed, the approval also confirms their membership automatically.

Depending on how your client is set up and operates, it may also be used to rearrange the items on the server.? I use Thunderbird and Gmail mostly, so when I move a message from the Gmail Spam folder to the Gmail Inbox in TB, it also moves it on the server.? I resisted IMAP for years, but don't think I could get along without it now.? Mainly because I use a desktop at home and a laptop while traveling.? Everything stays in sync automatically and I don't have to remember to copy from one to the other.? As with any program, there are details to work out, but it works for me.

When you don't receive emails that you're expecting, the first thing to do is check your email delivery history.

Nor Receiving Emails

Ellen Bourne

I am the group moderator. I sent an email at 3:12 am this morning and didn't receive a confirmation that it has been sent. It is now 3:57 am??

Re: Replying to the sender, not the group

Alan,

This has caused confusion for those who get the digest. They tell
me that in the digest there is only one button "Reply to Group and
Sender."
That seems to imply that your group's Reply To setting is "Group and Sender". Look for it in the Message Policies panel of your group's Settings page.

Is it possible for you to separate this into two so it is the
same as in the individual posts?
I'm not sure why the footer of individual messages would have those separated when the digest does not. I would expect that they would also be controlled by the group setting.

Re: Member is "Pending Approval" but there is nothing in "Pending" #members

Jim,

Someone applied to be a member of my group via the web,
and as owner I got a "Subscription Approval Needed" email.

However nothing at all appears in Admin->Pending.
The Pending page is for pending messages, not pending members.

In Admin->Members the person shows up when the top drop-down is set to
"Pending Approval" ...
The Members page is the correct place to find pending members, as you discovered.

AND with the drop-down set to "Members". How can someone be both a
member and not a member?
They can't.

As Bruce said, check the email address carefully. Particularly if one of them has the the NC badge, it may be a typo.

I clicked the "View Pending Member" link in the email and it said the
person "Joined April 7" (yesterday). But I have done nothing to
approve this person yet. I am the only Owner.
If you replied to that email that would approve the pending message.

Or, a moderator can approve new members if you have promoted someone and given them that permission.

The best place to look is in your group's Activity log. Usually that will provide the answers, or at least valuable clues.

Re: Chronic:: Messages not being delivered.

Chris,

With the new one even /that/ limited choice has been removed. No
safe senders list. :(
But, is there a Junk or Spam folder in the webmail interface, and can you create a filter that moves a message to the INBOX?

"Filter" here refers to a generic capability to recognize certain messages and take an action - not specifically a spam-related function.

(I do have one IMAP address already that was foisted on me and I can
see nothing useful in there.)
Neither did I at first. It took a while to really "get" what it can do and how to work with it.

IMAP is merely a means to let you access your INBOX (and other web folders) with the messages still on your provider's servers. You can then copy or move messages to folders that are local on your computer. Typically you can also set your application up to make a local cache of the messages at your provider, so that you can access them when working offline.

As I said, a different way of looking at things. It is very useful if you happen to read your email from multiple computers, or even from your computer plus your phone (and/or tablet, and/or laptop).

Thanks Francis,

It used to be NUM for New User Moderated, now labeled NMM. ok.
It used to be NS for Non-Subscriber. To change my kneejerk/habit for myself I have put a sticky on the screen NM = Non Member. And of course there is the tooltip saying Non-Member which comes up after a small wait.?

The bigger problem is that on the Pending screen, a message from a new member on moderation has no label next to the Author to indicate status. I guess no tooltip either. (I think it was NUM3 before.? )? So, to check, for each blank status i have to go to Members to find their status. a lot of clicks for my old short attention span.

They don't.? To be more consistent across the site, the word User was replaced with Member in many places, so it stands for the same thing.

To quote Shakespeare... Aye, there's the rub.* With the "old" BT web interface (+ POP) the only available option was to have the Spam box on or off. With the new one even that limited choice has been removed. No safe senders list. :(

I have no objections to IMAP per se; it's just that for consistency's sake I would have to do 3 other email addresses as well (tedious), with no certainty that it would actually provide a means of achieving what I want to achieve. I will revisit BT's "guidance" because I think I saw some suggestion that with IMAP some tinkering is possible, but if I read things correctly that tinkering is from the email client, and the vintage of Outlook that I am using doesn't have any obvious means to do it. (I do have one IMAP address already that was foisted on me and I can see nothing useful in there.)

Hallo All,

Groups.io have recently changed the the naming of parts and the way messages for moderation are presented to us moderators. It used to be quite clear who was a new member and who was a non member. Now it is not so clear and the nomenclature has changed.
??
  • It used to be like: NUM for New User Moderated, and NS for Nonsubscriber.
  • Now it is blank/empty/no status for New User and NMM for Non Member Moderated.?

( I'm flying a bit blind now because I do not have any messages to be moderated now. )

NUM and NMM are too perilously close to stand for opposite status.
Time is being wasted going back and forth to check Members.
Mistakes are being made.?

OK,
Tony
