Re: Member approval

I went to Admin>Members and then on the drop down list I chose Pending. There was a badge indicating there was a Pending Member but no name was listed. I then navigated to the regular member list and there was his name right at the top of the list.
Additional information: this person was already a member under a different ID and email address but the information displayed on the member list was his new information. I received a response to the automatic questionnaire sent out when someone applies for membership. In that response he told me he had been trying to log in to try to change his email address but couldn¡¯t remember how so he applied for a new membership (which some how got approved). The name and email address was not the one he originally joined with. I did a search and found what I suspected was his old membership. I contacted him and he said, yes, that was the old membership. I deleted the old one. I¡¯m still confused about how his new membership got approved. I checked the group activity and it shows when he applied for membership but no approval is listed. I¡¯m still seeing the badge showing a Pending Member.

If you used Admin > Members, it will default to the Pending page if there are any.? Is that what you are seeing?? If not, please tell us how you're getting to the page(s) you're talking about.

Member approval

Today, I received a Pending Member notice. ?I went to the place to approve him and he was not there. ?There was a badge showing a member was pending but none listed. ?I went to my membership list and there he was all approved. ?I am the only one who approves member in my private group. ?There is still a badge showing a member is pending. ?Any ideas on this mystery?

I'm not sure how it works in full-featured digests
Plain-text digests contain fewer links because the full URL has to be spelled out...including them all would take up too much real estate.

That seems to imply that your group's Reply To setting is "Group and
Sender".

But, is there a Junk or Spam folder in the webmail interface, and can you create a filter that moves a message to the INBOX?
Yes; there's a Spam Box, and I found a solution late yesterday evening (UK time!) Buried in BT Mail's labyrinthine "Help" section I spotted something I think I had seen once some time ago but not followed up. Incoming senders are checked with addresses in the recipient's (webmail) Contact List and if they are there then it assumes that the incoming traffic is legitimate. I set it up last night and it seemed to be OK after 12 hours or so (fortunately the group in question is quite busy at the moment) so I gradually migrated incoming material from a temporary moderatorship (new word!) that I had set up on a second membership that goes nowhere near BT Mail. Fingers crossed; so far group traffic is not being interrupted at all, although it was a bit annoying to find an email from someone else was shunted into the spam box for no obvious reason.

So for now anyway the matter has been resolved. (Famous Last Words!) FWIW the "Help Pages" are so convoluted and cross - linked I greatly doubt if I could ever find the relevant section again. It's a wilderness of mirrors in there...

People who sign up to a group need to demonstrate that they
? ?1) actually own that email address they provided (after clicking the "Join This Group" button), and
? ?2) are capable of (and actually wish to) receive groups.io messages there.

This is the purpose of the confirmation process; it's?not a sign that anything is broken.?

Those who already have a confirmed groups.io account -- perhaps by having previously subscribed to another group, or having gone through a Yahoo transfer, or who click on "Join This Group" while already logged in to groups.io -- do not need to have it done again.

Is there a fix to prevent this from happening to other potential members?
Not without paying for a Premium group. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Status-Badges-in-the-Members-List

UPDATE: It seems the problem was the subscriber's "Confirm Your Groups.io Subscription" email going to spam folder.

Re: #subscription not working via email #subscription

Just out of curiosity as I have never used the email subscribing on groups.io

I just did a test on one of my groups with an unused email address

It worked flawlessly and in seconds

Re: Chronic:: Messages not being delivered.

A suggestion that may help some folks: switch to digests. Not a solution if you like the interaction of receiving and sending emails all day, but for folks, like me, who spend an hour on groups in the morning and then leave them be for the rest of the day, digests reduce the volume of email and the odds that it will be classed as spam. When they are classed as spam, it's only one email to report not spam.

Is the email address you're sending from already subscribed to the group?

If so, nothing will happen...not even an error message.

You must have a Basic group. Only Premium and above can confirm members without their intervention.

The buttons displayed are Save/ Send message/ Remove/ Ban/ Send Confirmation Email
Check the box next to the person with the NC bade and select Send Confirmation Email from the Actions menu. The subscriber will have to respond to this email to remove the badge.
