Reinstating Easy Transfer (or paying for it) since Yahoo extended deadline? #yahoo #transfer

Hi all -- I'm new here and not technical.? The original owner of a longstanding Yahoo group didn't transfer the group here before the deadline to take advantage of the Easy Transfer process, and she only recently gave me admin access to move the group here.? I do have the Yahoo group file download.? I managed to import the member list, but I'm very hesitant to try to do the manual process to upload the large (and valuable) message archive and lose all the sender/date information in the process.?

I saw in a post here that Mark would be willing to upload the mbox files (I assume this would yield the same benefit of using Easy Transfer, yes?) if I pay for Premium Yearly ($220).? Does that offer still stand?? If so I'd love to do it.? Just tell me what to do.?

Thanks!

Because all imported messages have been assigned a new message number on GIO, there won't be an easy way to correlate to YG message numbers.? You'd really need to know some information within a message to search for it, rather than the original number.

Well yes, although I would be interested to know what you plan to do with it once you find it! FWIW I usually have a quick look when anyone leaves just to see how active they were previously and the usual finding is "not very"!

Starting with the email notification of someone having left, copy the email address of the person concerned. Then go to Admin > Activity and paste that into the box above Date faintly filled with "Search" (which will disappear). I usually search for "All Actions" which produces a list of everything the person did. If you want to limit the search to messages posted then select Sent Message in the Actions box.

If you want to search more generally (in terms of members who have left) then leave the Search box empty and select "Left" as the Actions. This will bring up a list of all those who have left... unsurprisingly. At this point it can become tedious as any person you want to investigate further has to be copied and pasted into the full Activity log for a further search on their individual activity.

One point; I don't know if this is true of Premium and Enterprise Groups but while a departed member's group messages are stored any messages to +Owner are not.

Another point, but one not limited to those who have left is that the Activity Log will maintain a record of uploaded Files & Photos, but links to uploaded photos fail if the photo name was edited after the upload. The same "fail" will occur if a created album name is edited as well; I haven't put it to the test but I would not be surprised if similar "fails" arise with uploaded files. There is no obvious workaround for this, at least not one that I have found yet... but then I haven't actively researched it, and currently have no plans to do so!

Re: member activity history

They do have the Export function for Activity Logs, just not the Past members page where the information would all be in one place for easy access, nor other details, such as the Notes option.? If you happen to know the email address, you may be able to search the Activity Log with it to find at least some of the information.
Yes, I know. To explain: Our members always have to introduce themselves, and this introduction is saved under their first name in the files. All bloodworks analysis and tests of their animals we do for them are saved there as well. We regularly delete all this when someone unsubscribes. It very seldomly happens that a person is not identifiable, even through the Activity Log? But this is really a "luxury" issue, so never mind.

If the mail is in the Comcast web Spam folder, you just move it to another folder, like Inbox, by dragging or using Move.

If it is not in there I think you have to call Comcast.

I'm not sure how much extra work you want to do, but you could Export the Activity Log now and then.? It's exported as an html file, so you could use your browser to search for information about an individual.? There may be a way to convert that information to a spreadsheet (to make sorting/searching easier), but I haven't really looked into it.
Duane,

thats a good idea anyway, I suppose I will try this in hopeless cases. In the old yahoo days it didn?t really matter if a member had a fantasy display name. I could always track them down within the group by their date of entry. Then I quickly had their names.

Since free groups.io don?t seem to have this activity history feature, I have started to change the fantasyy display names of members into recognizable ones.

There's so much information and so many options here on GIO that it can be difficult to keep up with them all.? That's one of the reasons we want to keep the Wiki pages here on GMF as up to date as we can, though there are certainly gaps in the information.? I sure wouldn't want to go back to the early days of GIO - no files, databases, photos, etc. - but do get a bit overwhelmed sometimes.

? On your admin list (LH side) click "photos" and it tells you. Also click "files" and it tells you. Remember the messages themselves do not count. You can delete any that are not needed any more.

Margo -- The group Owner can't do this. Profiles are "owned" by the subscriber and can only be edited/deleted by them.

If the subscriber accidentally has two subscriptions to your group (under two different email addresses), you can delete one of those subscriptions. That would serve to remove the corresponding Directory entry.

Failing that (i.e.: the subscriber wants to retain both subscriptions) he will have to delete one of them himself. To do so, he must log in under the email address which profile he wants to delete, go to Subscription>Group Profile and hit the reset button.

Re: Message search by numbers

Duane.Change your message view to Messages or Expanded, then enter the message number in the box at the upper right, just to the left of Date, and hit enter.

BMaverick: Simple.?

1. When logged into to you group on the GroupsIO website, click on the left column titled MESSAGES.

2. At the top right part of the screen, there is a box to enter the message number.? Place in the number you have and hit enter.

3. The message then appears.

I knew there was a way to show the numbers; I had just forgotten.
This reminds me of another issue: The message number does not show up in emails?

Thanks

Yes, my premium group has "Past" in the drop down list. If you click on that there is "History" (in blue) on the line of each past member. Clicking on that opens their old account directly to Activity History. You can scroll through what was done when and all their posts. Their "Notes" button is also available and can even be added to after they left.
