I apologize for my lack of clarity.
Groups,io has established protocol for assigning message numbers. ?The individual date and time of posts establishes that numerical sequence. ?In order to compile their year/month summary, had to similarly sequence those messages brought over from Yahoo Groups. ?In such context, Yahoo message numbers are “dead history” and of absolutely no significance.?
With imported historical messages now and forever fixed, had the option of started numbering ALL of our messages “here” with number one. ?They instead numbered our messages with number one. ?Fine. ?
Every group has the universal challenge of “wandering subjects” within specified “topics”. ?While “topics” are a good starting point when researching information under discussion, it is frequently only a part of a single message (or a few of them) that I wish to bring forward for current reconsideration. ?Individual message numbers, regardless of origin, are the ideal means of quick and easy specific reference between old and new “content” under current discussion. ?
Since it is already possible to view our archived messages in sequence by date and time, I was merely asking how to view the assigned message numbers that make that possible. ? While writing this up, I see you have answered this question in your answer to Victoria…that the message number shows up in email footers.
I presume a request to include message numbers in above sequential date and time listing would go to Beta?

The numbers in the Message History chart are the number of messages for each month, so should add up to a somewhat larger number than the number of Topics (assuming it's not an announcement only group.)? There is no total for those.
Presumably those, too, have been assigned a “message number”. ?How would one similarly view and search those by message number?
Because all imported messages have been assigned a new message number on GIO, there won't be an easy way to correlate to YG message numbers.? You'd really need to know some information within a message to search for it, rather than the original number.
