Mixed up From address

I use gmail's smtp to send out emails from my various addresses. Normally when I send a message, the From field shows the email address I sent from. However, when I post to my groups.io list from rkm@..., the From field shows like this:?
"Richard Moore via Groups.Io" <richard.kelly.moore@...>
I had to subscribe my gmail address to the list to get the posting through at all, otherwise it was being rejected as coming from a non-subscriber.?

Does anyone know why this is happening? ?Is there a fix?

Changing Hashtag Colors? #hashtags

I dumbly assigned some hashtags the same color (meant to pick different colors, but forgot and got the default). Is there any way to edit the color assigned to a hashtag?

Thanks,

Ethan

PS--I did search for this and look at the help, but didn't come up with anything. Probably missed it in the mass of messages.

If you open a message, it is the link icon in the right of the date. You can copy that URL from the icon and send it or revisit the post / message.?

old Yahoo group suddenly no longer moderated #yahoo

An old Yahoo group from which we have migrated to Groups.io is suddenly no longer moderated. As of today, it is once again sending all emails from members. I had set it to moderate all before the migration.

The access control and moderation (and notifications) tabs have disappeared from the group's settings.

Is the only solution to delete the old group?

Thanks,

A reliable way to open a CSV in Excel is to "import" the "data" from it. In Excel 2016, for example, go to the Data tab, and select "From Text/CSV".

If you try to open a CSV file in Excel directly, then Excel will make certain assumptions about it (for example, that the "C" in "CSV" is somehow an abbreviation for "tab").

Thanks for replying¡

Re researching by keyword¡ to do this I wold have to make a note of what the next message is about before I close down, and senior brains are very forgetful¡ lol. One difficulty with this is also that the same topic is mentioned on the same day each week (for example, Monday is FOW, meaning font of the week¡ Tuesday is GOW, meaning Graphic of the Week) so if I searched for FOW, it would probably bring up every message from every Monday¡

I think the most successful method for me is to make the new bookmark when I am finished for the night, and delete the bookmark that is currently listed, this way there would only ever be the one bookmark in the folder, no chance of getting mixed up.

Thanks for your input though.

Win,
?
I had received a lengthy posting from one of our members on this very topic last night.? He asked if there was a way to just JUMP to a page number vs. the click on the arrows forward and back.? Many sites offer an input box right next to the page number like yours shows as 31.? It would be to the left.? Then the numbers and arrows on each side.?? I thought, how clever that I didn't notice GroupsIO not having this ability.
?
My only solution to give to all of our members was, there is a search button at the top. Click on it and enter a keyword to search for.?
?
At Yahoo Groups there was a weird way to narrow down the search.? Knowing the year and month allowed you to pick on the area when a message was posted back in time.? It's very quirky at best.? The funny thing is, GroupsIO uses the SAME type of system at the bottom of the main page to the group.?
?
Back in the days of CompuServe and Prodigy message systems in use, each started thread had an unique ID number as well as the subject line.? If you knew the ID number, no matter where you were in the system, it would immediately place you there when clicked on or entered in the search field.? The pre-Internet era had some decisive and quick tools like this in the day because nobody in their right mind would spend HOURS looking for a few mere pages on 2400bps modems.? Now, here is the neat part.? GroupsIO has the ability to JUMP to a Message Number.?? So, rather than focus on a certain page number, look at the message number you had left off at.? :)

This sure beats making dozens of bookmarks in a browser and then having to figure out what bookmark took you where.

Thanks for any help.

If editing hasn't been disabled for the group in question, go to your message, use the More menu under it, and select Edit Message.

The warning that you would have seen when you made this change was:

----------------------------------------------------
*Verify Private Archives*
Are you sure you wish to make this group's archives
private? Private archives cannot be reverted to open
later.
----------------------------------------------------

I suppose it might not be 100% clear to non-native speakers that "open" here is a noun and not a verb, and of course, the word "open" is not the word that is usually used to refer to "public" archives elsewhere on the settings and help pages.

So, "Private archives cannot be changed to public later."? Or how would you have written it?

Samuel

I suppose it also doesn't help that in the normal world, "public archive" means government archive, and not "private archive that is accessible to the public". :-)

If I'm understanding you correctly, that's the way all groups start out.? No matter which setting you use, only members can post to a group (unless it's an announcement only group.)? You can allow non-members to post, but those will always go through the moderation procedure.? The Private/Public only determines who can see the message archives.? Sorry that you didn't understand it before you changed it.

Since, I'm assuming, you have Moderated checked in the Spam Control section, you could uncheck New Users Moderated (and save the change), so this wouldn't show up.? It won't change those that already have it, but would apply for new members.

Re: Moderating messages

Alan,

In the settings for our group I set that all messages would be
moderated. But I note that in the individual members
profile, the moderating is set at:

Override: new user moderated

Which governs.
The Override posting privileges override the group's setting.
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Message-Moderation#Member-Controls

Must I reset each individuals profile ...
As Duane said, the system will change that member's Posting Privilege after the set number of messages from that member have been approved. But that won't result in any change as long as the group's setting remains Moderated.

Indeed! My testing was on a page that did have some non-whitespace

A note about Display names -
?
Display names can be unique to the group the user belongs to. They do not carry across with the user?to other groups. If you add or change a display name for a user in one group, it won't add or change it for other groups.
?
On two of my groups we require real names. We've found that people may often know each other or ancestors of a member, if they can see the name, and that encourages conversation. On Y! I was constantly moderating members for leaving them out. On groups.io I just change their display names for the group and don't have to worry about the problem. Yes, users can change it themselves, but most don't because they don't see it anywhere else. And unless I notice a post that doesn't conform, I don't worry about it.
