Re: Groups.io mail still going into SPAM folder
I have about 8.5K members in my community (on Groups.io).? Our mailing list emails are sent from Groups.io.
I have no control on what email provider our community members use (as you would expect).
?
Yes, I can easily create a filter for myself, but that doesn't address the bigger problem of my community.? Many members are reporting Groups.io email goes into their spam folders.? So its a major problem.
?
I should have made that clear in my original post.? Sorry about that.? ?Just wanted to know if this is an issue with DKIM on the Groups.io side, something on the gmail side or something else.

Frank,

My experience using Gmail with Groups.io has been excellent, Jim's comments notwithstanding. Gmail's filters almost never classify something I wanted as Spam, or vice-versa.

I don't know if using a hosted domain makes things different for you.

In Gmail's UI use the Show original menu item to check out any message you've received from Groups.io. It will show you at the top the authentication results:

I've been managing/owning selveral groups for close to 4 years at groups.io
The largest is almost 3500 and has been close to that for 15 of the 20 years of its' existence Our monthly new member intake is roughly 60 and we lose up to 8% of members per month. I scanned the last 100 Past members

We're getting a lot of the members in our mailing list (8.5K+) reporting groups.io email is going into their spam folders. I'm experiencing the same thing and my email is hosting by Google (with my own domain). Yes... with no intent to be a smartass... use a domain/hosting/email service other than Google. They're too big to care how many problems their filtering decisions cause... as months worth of help requests here indicate. The only solution is to vote with your wallet/feet by going elsewhere. I've had this issue with my business email, unfortunately it's google being google. We're getting a lot of the members in our mailing list (8.5K+) reporting email is going into their spam folders.? I'm experiencing the same thing and my email is hosting by Google (with my own domain). I believe most people that have this problem are using gmail or a Google-hosted domain (presumably the same infrastructure). Is there anything we can do to alleviate this problem?? Mike Cohen
Shal, Hard for me to express how much I appreciate your detailed responses.? Simply put...Thank You !! The two names in the screenshot are myself (Owner) and the person who will take over if I get hit by a bus.? The default is to have the first message moderated.? I override that for most members.? Fortunately, we have never had an unwanted posting. Not my first choice, but I will encourage the dozen or so members who use Winlink and cannot add a Winlink alias to add a subscription, like I did. Thanks again. Mike On Thu, Mar 14, 2019 at 1:03 AM Shal Farley <shals2nd@...> wrote:

It isn't done that way because that's not what an email list is. I would argue that use cases that require privacy at the level of not even exposing an email address are likely use cases that would find a better home using a web forum or some other means of communication. Yes! All that plus complete anonymity helps to enable the bad behavior that the OP expressed a passing concern about. People who can't hide their identity will tend to be more polite than those who can. Jim H |

Re: Getting at the raw email text
Ah, one more important thing to note:

Ultimately what we need are individual patch mbox files that we can apply with "git-am", that is, step (7). If groups.io allows us to download the "raw" variant of each email that they display on the WebUI, we could likely jump to step (7) at once. The rest of the steps are really just working around gnu mailman. Cheers, Stephano On Thu, Mar 14, 2019 at 7:39 AM Stephano Cetola <stephanoc@...> wrote:

Sorry for the slow responses. I'm working with folks in the UK so the timezone shift with questions is fun. :) Here is the the process my owners are trying to reproduce (how they work with GNU Mailman): (1) download the compressed mailbox file for the month I'm interested in, such as (2) decompress the file: gunzip 2019-February.txt.gz (3) make sure that my INBOX is currently empty (4) use the "mb2md" utility to split the mailbox into individual message files, and place them in my local $HOME/Maildir directory: mb2md -s 2019-February.txt (5) Now my INBOX is filled with the edk2-devel messages & threads from February 2019. I use the normal Thunderbird functionality to delete everything that I don't want. (6) The remaining messages are what I'm interested in. For example, I can save individual patches or series of patches to local *.eml files, with Ctrl+S. (7) Once I have the *.eml files, I can apply them to my local edk2 clone with "git-am". Let me know if you have any questions on that workflow. It is very helpful when trying to retrieve old patches that aren't in your personal archive somewhere. Being brand new to groups, I was curious to see if there is a way to customize the he page.In Settings, the Group Description field is an html editor. I believe it is the same editor used for wiki entries; and within limits, you can insert quite a few html constructs here, including images. Click on "Show Advanced Toolbar" and then "Source Code" (both at the far right of the toolbars) to get to raw html. If you insert a horizontal rule followed by an img tag with the [deprecated construct] of align="right" below it you can get the Group Information and Group Settings to wrap on the left...good for putting in a logo or something like that. See the attached screenshot for an example. There are many limitations, though. Among the things that are disallowed are web forms, javascript or other scripting languages, and iframes. A lot of inline styles are stripped upon save, too. You'll just have to fiddle with it to figure out what you can and cannot do. ? Re: Creating an alias
Mike,
An account is not a subscription. What you can find in your Members list are subscriptions, but those same email addresses may have subscriptions in any number of other groups. Or no groups. Which is how there may be Winlink addresses which are registered (have accounts) but do not appear in your group's Members list. Only the account owner can delete the account. I see from your screenshot that those two addresses are not listed as NC, meaning that they are confirmed, meaning that the holder of that address can receive messages sent to that address (unless you used Direct Add to put them there, or unless you manually confirmed the address, both of which are Premium features). Being able to receive messages at that address is a good thing: it means that the member can use the Email me a link to log in button to log in for one last time to delete the account, even if he/she never set a password for the account. By the way, I also see that they have the P badge, meaning that their subscription Posting Privilege is set to Override: not moderated. I generally recommend against using that setting for most members. If it is your intent to have most members in your group un-moderated it is better to choose the Default Group policy privilege for most members and uncheck Moderated in the Spam Control section of your group's Settings page. That way you can quench a flame war or other disturbance in the group at need by simply checking the Moderated box, and then unchecking it again after things quiet down. Since you are forced to choose at least one in the Spam Control section, check New Users Moderated instead.
