This might be related to my alias settings in gmail itself, because I know you can have "send as" addresses that are or aren't treated as "aliases" by gmail. (And yes, use of the term "alias" could be confusing the issue, depending on exactly what each system means by alias.) So I'm going to play around with gmail's alias settings, and see if that makes a difference. email issues
I've been having some problems with my io groups over the past few days. I either receive the email messages late, or not at all, in random order, sometimes immediately after the message was posted, sometimes several hours later, sometimes not at all. I have checked whether my email address is bouncing - it's not. I have checked my server's spam filter to make sure they're not messing with stuff sent from io - nothing. I checked my settings, everything seems to be fine, but the problems persist. Even the groups I am owner or moderator on have the issues, and it seems to be just me. Other members seem to be receiving their messages with no problems. Has anybody else come across something like this before? Any ideas?

Re: gMail and Aliases
Sarah,
Instead every email was being posted as if sent from my gmail account,Oddly, that sounds like the expected result of having your personal email set as an Alias in your account with the Gmail address. What I can't wrap my head around is that you say each of these addresses (Gmail and Personal) have their own Groups.io account associated with them. That shouldn't be possible if one is being used as an Alias of the other. But maybe you've somehow slipped through a crack in the logic. That name "alias" has been nothing but trouble. It would better be called an "Alternate Posting Address". The exact effect of the setting is to allow you to post using a different address than your subscribed address. Those posts then appear as if posted by your subscribed address. It exists because certain email services require it, not because it is expected to be generally useful. Is there any way around this restriction? Not so long as the other address also has an account. An address which has an account may be subscribed to groups, and as such it should log in and post showing its own address, not some other. There may be circumstances in which someone uses both their gmailThe address(es) at which you wish to receive group messages, or which you wish to use to log into the group's web pages, should each have an account. Addresses used in the Alias field are send-only: they never receive email from groups, nor can they be used to log in. But, I'm new to groups.io, and don't yet know if accounts can be trulyThey can. There is a red "Delete My Account" button at the bottom right of the Login page in your Account. But I don't know if there's a delay time involved. I've never tested it and I don't recall it being mentioned (unlike group names, which are reserved after a group is deleted). people might have valid reasons for creating a groups.io account withI'm not exactly sure what you're saying here, but my understanding is that if you use your Gmail account to send a message via a different email service that Gmail submits the message to that service for transmission. So for all intents and purposes the message came from that other address. It could just read from that field to determine the sender and notGroups.io uses the inbound message's From field to determine which account the message belongs to. That address must match exactly one account, in either the subscription or Alias address field. If it matches the Alias field of an account, the message posts as if it came from the subscription address. So, thinking about it more, it would seem like I can't continue toThere is absolutely no problem with having two accounts and having messages from each show up under their own subscribed address. It's only when sending via email that the issue arises. It is only when one address is an Alias of the other that there's any shenanigans about which address is used to post the message. I wouldn't mind suggestions for what those more experienced with theI would double check and make sure that your account with the Gmail address does not have an Alias address set in it. And likewise for your account with the Personal address. We could examine what's going on in detail through my test group, shalstest, if you like. Samuel,
Do members who bounce get unsubscribed by the system? They do not. They did at one time, I guess the notice never got corrected. Perhaps a word to support would be appropriate. Re: Photo display size
Maureen,
Understandably, they want to simply upload from their phones ...Unrelated to your original question, but as you may know the images direct from phones tend to have very high resolution and require correspondingly high storage. If you haven't already, you may want to "tame" them by using the "Max Size In Photos Section" and/or "Max Size In Email" controls in the Photos section of your group's Settings page. Are bouncing members unsubscribed?
Hello
I saw the bounce notification received by a user, and it says: == You must take action to restore your account, or we will unsubscribe you from all of the groups you are a member of. == However, the helpfile /static/help implies that the user won't be unsubscribed: == Step 3: Give up trying to reach the account holder ... The account now sits in virtual limbo in its groups. Group moderators may elect to issue further bounce probes to it by clicking on "Send Bounce Probe" from the member¡¯s page, or they may try to reach the account holder through a different email address if one is available. Or they may decide to simply remove the account from their groups. == So... which is it? Do members who bounce get unsubscribed by the system? Samuel |

Re: Photo placement problem
Zane,
When I attach a photo, it appears as part os the message when viewedThose are actually the same. The only difference is that the group website doesn't include the footers. You can't control where (or even if) an attached photo will be shown in any given email interface. As Bruce said in response to your prior message, you can only control the placement of the photo by inserting (aka "embedding") it into the body of a formatted (HTML) message. How you do that depends on your email interface. In your group's website use the Add Pictures button in the formatting toolbar. Re: Scheduled (Delayed) Message
#howto
Congregation Arzei Darom,
Can a message be posted, but scheduled to go out a later time andOne option is to schedule it as a Calendar event: The "Event Name" field becomes the Subject of the message. Select "All Day" unless you want a specific time shown. You can make it a one-time message or repeating. The Event Information fields go into the body of the message. (You probably want to leave all but the Description blank.) Set no reminders. Do not select "Send Invite to Group". Select "Send Notice To Group When Event Happens". Disadvantages: The message will be From a noreply email address.* It will have a date and hashtag perforce in its Subject. It will have at least a Title, When, and Description headings in the body. *I haven't tested it, but it may be possible to set a Reply-To by using a hashtag with a Reply-To property in the Title. Re: Members visibility
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýOk thanks for the replies. It¡¯s pretty much as I surmised then. It would be useful to be able to make that setting for users as so many never get around to making changes like that when you actually want everyone to see who is in the Group. I do realise though why even Owners cannot do this.I actually already set up my own test Group for this sort of thing. But posted my question before remembering that. I¡¯ll have to go and have a play with it to familiarise myself with these configuration details. Thanks again. Ken ?G i l l e t t _/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/

Re: Members visibility
Hi Ken,
I¡¯m still puzzled about settings that control the visibility (or otherwise) of the DirectoryYou can make the membership directory available for subscribers via the group Admin > Settiings.? As you discovered though, a subscriber needs to make themselves visible in the directory by updating their own profile before they can see other entries.? You cannot make this setting for them even if you Direct Add them to a group. Gerald's suggestion of having a secondary account so you can see the impact of your settings changes as a regular subscriber would is a good one and one that I think many moderators use.
