Png file

One of my group members sends messages to our group and each of her messages has two .png files attached to it. Those files, which are small in size, show up in our "emailed photos" album as a light blue solid square. Although they are very small size so they are not taking up a lot of our photo space, they are annoying in the group of emailed photos, so I keep removing them. The member is not actively attaching anything to her messages, and she is not tech savvy, so she has no idea what is adding those files. She sends her messages from Windows 10 Mail. Does anyone have any idea what these are and how she can eliminate them? When I try to open those attached files, each one opens in my Windows photo viewer as just a straight line, one slightly bigger than the other.

Is there a full email history?

Dan Hartford

Hi,

As a moderator, If I look at a member through the members list and select the "Email Delivery History" tab, is there a way to see more than just the most recent good and bad deliveries?? Maybe going back a period of time or a number of entries in each category.??

Thanks -- Dan

Note that Yahoo groups also puts the email address in the From field of the message header. So you won't be able to use that, either. I don't recall what Google Groups does. I hope you find an alternative that meets your needs.
I can confirm that Google Groups also has the sender's email address in the From header.

These are all *email* services - what does the OP expect them to do?

Perhaps he should start a Facebook group, or use forum software.

Bruce

You are correct that Yahoo puts the original email address in the header but certainly in Thunderbird the From field displayed to the user it says the group email address.

The only way I can see the field is by looking in the email source or the extended header to see the original email.

At least that means when you reply Thunderbird does not collect the email address.

Yes not perfect but much better than the email being in your face.

Re: Inviting Members

Some of my groups are unrestricted for Dance and Performance announcements - anyone may join (anonymously if they wish). These groups are virtually all announcements by Moderators, with any Member posts moderated.

Most of my groups are for amateur musicians who get together to play (often in various private homes), share sheet music (stored in the Files section), and for Dances and Performances - a different email List and related website for each group of musicians. These are restricted groups that welcome anybody, but we want to know who you are, so the only qualifications are:
1) Come and Play with us first.
2) Then Join with your Full Name.
Perhaps my cautions are too ¡®Old School¡¯, but it makes members feel comfortable and has worked well for 18 years.

These restricted groups post who's holding a session when (with a phone number to call if you don't know where the host's home is), detailed reports of what has been played, set lists for performances, pictures, other music opportunities, and sometimes the history of a tune, song, composer, musician or band is discussed.

The idea is that we are friendly people with no need to hide behind a false name, and who don¡¯t want to be SPAMMED - unless someone¡¯s email account is hacked, having only known members accomplishes this. Occasionally someone may get off topic (not group or music-related), but a note to them and Moderation curbs that.

I used to not want Full Names to go along with email addresses (to keep them from Yahoo), but with 10 Lists I can¡¯t remember which email address belongs to which member. It seems like an option so many would want to make this more convenient to accomplish, and could simplify Groups.io membership pages. I¡¯d love to have a message (instructions) I can write and a few designatable fill-in fields included in the Invite and Join processes. It would certain help with those people who usually manage to be able to respond to an email, but not initiate one...

I don?t know if I fully understand your request. But if you don?t mind I tell you how I handle this issue (as I understood it) for our group. I am the owner of a group dealing with mostly animal health matters. My moderators and I spend a whole lot of our free time helping pet-owners in very complex and specialized issues. We provide scientific information for them and help them interpret their pet?s medical findings and support them in a broad variety of questions.

From the very beginning (my yahoo group was founded in 2006) we didn?t let anyone in who didn?t give their personal data (which is full name, place, telephone and a very explicate statement about why they wanted to join our group). We did this in oder to make sure we weren?t flooded by people trying to sell pet food and other pet things or grab members? email addresses for other commercial reasons.

So in yahoo times I had a prepared questionnaire that went out to them and had to be sent back to me, where all this information was demanded before they could join. Prospective members also had and have to accept our guidelines by clicking a little box within that questionnaire. The questionnaire contains my email-address and must be sent back to me personally. As soon as I get it back, this person will be admitted in case everything is o.k..

And instead of saving this delicate private information somewhere inside the group?s archives, it stays with me and is saved on my personal server. Not only because Yahoo is known for selling personal data, but also for privacy policy reasons personal data shouldn?t be saved on such a platform as far as I am concerned. In all those 12 years of the group?s existence this has worked perfectly.

In my new group.io it works the same way. Here I use the same questionnaire and send it out via the "pending subscription" function. The real work was designing this questionnaire and reengineering it occasionally.

I hope this can be a little help to you.....

Any files that you were only using as member notices, usually sent out at some interval, aren't needed any more once you've set up a current means of delivering them.

For me to set up more groups larger than a handful of people this MUST be changed to send emails from only a groups.io email address

Re: #issue No mails delivered to any of the group except owner #issue

Daniel P?tzold

I just figured it out.

All my different E-Mail Accounts still had my full name as name of sender.
Apparently, groups.io isn't differentiating between e-mail addresses but between names. And since my name was always the same, I always got 2 mails to my main address, no matter which one sent the mail.

I added my wife and all works with that.

thank you all!

Re: pending membership

Is there any way to check whether a pending membership questionnaire was sent? Would it show up in the activity log?
?
?I believe it would show up in the pending member?'s Email Delivery History as either successful or Unsuccessful. The fact that they applied would show in the Activity log, but I don't think it has a separate entry for the fact of sending the Pending Subscription notice - that's automatic.

There is no notification in the members Email Delivery history about the Pending Subscription notice as far as I could see

I even had her add the [email protected] email to her Contacts list in hopes that would resolve the issue.?
The most likely explanation is user error. Were you looking over her shoulder and watching her do it? Is her inbox full? Is the email account even active?

Open her subscriber record and check to see if group emails are bouncing. I also couldn't help but notice that "noreply" is misspelled.

Any suggestions??
Once logged in, she should be able to change her email address without losing message history. See?/static/help#changeemail

Hope this helps,

I'm kinda guessing here, but I suspect you have the group set for "reply to sender" and have "copy self" turned on in your Account settings.

Go to Admin->Settings->Message Policies. There is a "Reply To" pull-down menu. Make sure it says "Group," then click the blue "Update Group" button at the bottom of the page.

Now click on your name (or email address) at upper right and select "Account." Click the Preferences tab at left. At the bottom of the page there is a checkbox that says "I always want copies of my own messages." Uncheck that, and click the "Update Preferences" button.
?
Hoping this helps,

Re: #issue No mails delivered to any of the group except owner #issue

How were the accounts added?? Direct Add, Invite, web signup?? What's the name of the group (so we can look at the home page and see the group settings)?
Have the added addresses been confirmed (do not show NC in members list)?
Thanks

In general, a 2.xxx.yyy code means things are hunky dory, a 4.xxx.yyy means you may need to try later, and a 5.xxx.yyy means the messages aren't getting through.

I have repeatedly checked if all accounts have the same settings. Whereby I won't expect to not receive mails after enlisting by just replying to the invitation-mail.
All messages have always been sent to the group address.

I even created a second group to see if I made a mistake within the creation process. But I got the same result there...

The files feature is the reason why I am not with google groups or any other forum but with groups.io. Files to me is the most valuable feature of all. And I am thankful to Mark?s that his transfer facility was able to move almost all of them from yahoo to groups.io.

What Victoria said.? One of my groups is a political committee.? Our files section houses over a decade of agendas, minutes, treasury reports, official correspondence, resolutions, endorsements, chartering documents and so on.? It is very much our institutional memory.
