I have a new group (myself as the only member thus far until I get it working correctly). I sent a test message via the group [email protected] e-mail address but nothing has been received (its been 10¡¯). Then went onto the account site and also sent a test message from there. Still nothing received in my regular e-mail. What am I doing wrong? Thanks Geoffrey |

And the question is: is that a policy decision, or technological. If technological then fine: we weren't asking for a full transfer (whatever that entails) just a clean installation of the message archives. I'm a bit surprised that they don't have an automatic way to install an mbox archive. Seems like a gaping hole.Yes. I know about that. That's what I was referring to and that's what I'll use if it's the only option. But as I said : refusing to reply to someone who wants to give you money does not inspire confidence.? I would do it just a few at a time so you don't get confused. Transfer the apples Yahoo Group into your apple Groups.io subgroup. (Names don't have to match Yahoo Groups.) Moves are happening fairly quickly now. So you should be able to do it over just a few days if you keep up with the prompts, etc. See this response about another but similar move to subgroups: /g/GroupManagersForum/message/23978 Frances ? -- FAQ on Moving from YahooGroups GMF Wiki: (unofficial) Help for members (and would-be members) and group managers |

You can't use the Easy Transfer.? Support will tell you the same thing.? They've been snowed under with all the transfers and are now working on the backlog of questions, with premium groups having priority.

Transferring a Yahoo group without Moderator access
Has anyone ever gotten a response from "[email protected]"?
We want to transfer a yahoo group to groups.io, but unfortunately the account of the group owner is lost, and apparently none of the moderator accounts have the privilege of "Add, remove, and change moderator privileges"So we can't follow the instructions in the "how to transfer" document I have a CSV of all the members, and I have a download of the message archives from Yahoo that I'd like to install in the new account. I sent a message to "[email protected]" asking whether they can install these without moderator access to the yahoo group. Crickets (no response after several messages and several days). I know I can add these members by hand with a one-month premium account; and that there is a somewhat cumbersome way to install the archives. But we are willing to pay for a premium account to have it "done right". So I'm wondering: is there any point to waiting for a response from [email protected] or should I just go ahead and do what I can myself. Do they not want our money? Silence in response to support requests doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in the organization, and makes me a little nervous about moving over. Maybe I should be looking for a different list provider? |

Having said that - should I stick with free groups or can I put this all in my "paid group" with sub groups - not giving them the option to message the main group (but they can only?message the subgroup)?Remember, if you use the free groups, you can still have subgroups. The only advantage of having a premium membership for 1-2 months is being able to add old members more efficiently (although you'd still have to add/invite them manually), and the only advantage of having a 1-year premium membership is being able to transfer the members automatically and transferring the old messages/files as well. But if you don't need the old messages, and you don't mind spending a bit of time adding/inviting all the old members, then you don't need to buy the 1-year premium package -- you can simply create your main group and then create the subgroups, even in the free package. Re: Transferring Question - To Subgroups.
Dakotta Alex,
Then it would be reasonable to have a primary group that is about HR globally, with subgroups broken up by state / country. Chose the address (name) of the primary group with care, as it will become the base subdomain in the addresses of all the subgroups (and of the primary group, after the first subgroup is created).
Follow the same process as a normal Easy Yahoo Group Transfer, except at Step 1 create the primary group (if you haven't already) and each subgroup. Don't forget to upgrade the primary group to Premium Yearly. At step 2 start a transfer targeting each subgroup. Since the transfers will originate from different Yahoo Groups and target different subgroups I don't think there will be any problem with starting the transfers concurrently. Re: New sub-group . . . help!
Eric,
> I thought the the former main group would move to the new sub-group auto-magically No, the main group is still the main group, albeit with a different name. All messages will stay there. When you're viewing message for a group (main or sub) you won't see any other group's messages mixed in. Go back to the main group (use the 'Your Groups' dropdown) and you'll see the messages. You haven't broken anything! As a Yahoo escapee that was one of the things that threw me a bit at first when I tried subgroups, but it makes sense... Derek |

Re: Is registration required?
Sandi D.
This was a bit confusing to me when I first came over to GIO.?
The email address in the transferred YG is registered in GIO. This means that a GIO account is established and that means the person attached to the email address will continue to receive emails from their transferred YG. However, IF the person goes to the GIO website and enters that same email address trying to get website group access, they will be asked to create a password. Then they use their email and password to log into GIO. However, IF the person enters a different email address, one that was not associated with their YG transfer, then they will be registering with GIO under that (second) email address (and password) and will not be able to access their GIO transferred YG.? There's been quite a few discussions dealing with this because people don't always realize which YGs they were in under which email addresses and so they might end up with various various GIO accounts that they may or may not want to merge.? So back to your question.? Their YG email address was registered with GIO. Even though registered, they cannot log into the GIO website until they set up a password.? -- Sandi Dickenson Moderator of ASG Volunteers Group |

I see the premium version has the unlimited groups - when I migrate the groups over (can they be listed as subgroups) or do I need to do something special to have them all subgroups? The process of transferring individual Yahoogroup can be quite time-consuming for the owner of those groups. The transfer itself is often quite quick, but you still need to set up groups, and you need to perform several of the intermediary transfer steps manually. If your groups are all quite small and have only a few members each, it may be quicker for you to simply start from scratch at Groups.io, and then invite the existing members. If you sign up for "premium" on a monthly basis, you can use all the premium features that make it easier to set up your subgroups, and then cancel your premium membership when the subgroups are all set up. I see 30 groups of yours here: Those are all "recruiters" lists, so I imagine it could make sense to have them all in one group with subgroups. In addition, it would seem that the content posted on those lists is only useful for a short period of time, so it's not necessary that you have an archive of old messages available. Therefore, it may be no problem for you to simply continue to use Yahoogroups, even if old messages will no longer be stored on the server, and even though you'd have to store files using a third-party service.
