Just a short note to thank you all for your proposals. I guess we will be able to migrate the group somhow - but have to do it ourselves.
Thanks!

Use the PGOffline CSV to import using the keyboard pipe character.?? When you export from PGOffline, it even says, pipe CSV format.? The pipe looks like this |

Thus, no issues with any commas.? All is preserved and easy to read.? Very clean too.? Seldom does anyone even use the pipe character on the keyboard unless it's for software programing.

Try it again and enjoy!

Terry -- She's probably posting from an email address that is not subscribed.

Check your activity log. It will probably display a number of entries about a "non-member attempting to send" a message. Compare that address with the one that's actually in your member list. Or if she has a group message, she can also find her subscribed address in the footer (next to the unsubscribe link).

Owner not receiving notices of new postings

I am a co-owner of a group, with my message delivery option set for 'Individual Emails.'? In the past three days I have not received notification that messages have been posted.? My wife's account for the same group has received individual notifications per her settings.? I can go to the web site and see all of the new messages.? I am receiving notices from other groups where I am a regular member.? Am I missing something (other than the messages)?
Thanks.

Chris,

Fortunately, multiple groups is not an issue for this crowd. Thanks.

Scott -- If you have a Premium group, yes. Watch very carefully for typos, and it would be wise to contact the member ahead of time and ask him if he's subscribed to any other groups.io groups before doing this. It WILL affect his other subscriptions.

If I send him an new invite with the new e-mail address he will have a new joined on date and lose his group seniority status, correct?
If you send him a new invite with a new email address he was have a second subscription with a new join date. The previous subscription will remain, and you can set it to "no email" delivery, if he doesn't want to get duplicate messages from the group.

If this happens, can Groups.io Support correct the Joined date for seniority status for members at the Owners or moderators request?
That can probably be done, but I really don't think maintaining a subscriber's vanity join date will receive very high priority.

I suspect we could be dealing with some artifact of browser caching, but who knows. It's going to be difficult to track down a bug that you are currently unable to demonstrate.

Re: Trying to get below Storage Limits

I have set a size limit on new photos. Our oldest photos have already been reloaded on flickr, so deleting them here is not a hardship.? We began flickr when we could no longer upload photos to our Yahoo group 2 years ago.? We have not yet opened up our flickr account to our group as it is still using the quirky Yahoo sign in.? Some people, even those with Yahoo mail, get blocked trying to access flickr.? So for now I would like to keep as many photo as possible on Gio.?

That photo edit function sounds like a good idea; I look forward to seeing it happen - if it does happen.?

The above is of no help when the photos are already in the photo archive. Their size cannot be reduced in situ; the only way of doing it is to download them one by one and then upload them again with a more appropriate Max Size In Photos Section which is available in Settings. Although possible, this method is extremely tedious and to do it fairly the newly reloaded photo has to be assigned to its originator again, becuse the reload assigns it to whoever did the processing; as you might be able to imagine this merely adds to the overall tedium.

In short, why use a 3rd party program to do what Groups.io can already do?

In another thread someone (sorry; I cannot recall who) said it would be good if the photo "edit" function included the capability of reducing photo sizes, and I suspect that that is an idea that we would all support. However, actually suggesting it will have to wait for all the dust kicked up by the Great Migration to settle at Groups.io and for Mark to get his breath back, so to speak.

Ruth; it won't help you reduce your storage occupancy now, but check the setting I mentioned above as it will minimise the risk of your storage filling up again too quickly. At the risk of repeating myself it will not reduce the size of the photos that have already been uploaded; it is not retroactive.

Re: "Special" as a delivery type?

Bruce, thanks for asking this.? I thought it meant high priority like most email packages allow a person to flag the message prior to sending it out.?

Here are the details from that linky.

Special Notices Only sends only those messages which a moderator has designated as a Special Notice.

IMHO you have omitted an important stage. Your group might be the only group this member subscribes to. However, it might also be that he or she is a member of other groups, and changing the email address in one of them will result in either (a) your member now having two separate accounts or (b) some other form of confusion? I haven't thought of.

Even if you are fully aware of the implications your member might not be. Are you willing to take full responsibility for any outcome that is less than desirable or unexpected? It is far better for individual subscribers to make changes to their accounts and subscriptions because they then have to accept responsibility for their own actions.

Does your member fully appreciate the possible effects of what you are contemplating?

Re: Group Members e-mail Address #multipleemail #membersemail #memberemail

OK. So as group owner, I go to Admin, Members and select the individual. I can then change the e-mail address associated with him the the one he wants to use and he will maintain his "Joined" on date status.

If I send him an new invite with the new e-mail address he will have a new joined on date and lose his group seniority status, correct? If this happens, can Groups.io Support correct the Joined date for seniority status for members at the Owners or moderators request? Thanks loads.

In addition to the option to go to Digest or Summary for now, I'll also
recommend having a look on your Subscription page for GMF, in the
Advanced Preferences section (an expander).

Selecting "Following Only", "First Message Also", and "Auto Follow
Replies" together gives you a good way to keep up with the Topics that
are being discussed, without being buried under all the replies to the
topics.

If you find a given Topic to be of interest, click the "Follow Topic"
link that will be in the footer of the message. Then you will receive
all the replies to that Topic.

Of course, this works best when other members choose good Subject lines
for their new topics. ("Help" being the canonical example of a bad
Subject line - it doesn't tell anyone anything about what you need help
with). It also works best when topics don't drift off-topic.

Neither of those ideals are fully realized (at least, not in any help
group I've ever been in), but setting a good example always helps - my
thanks to those that do.

So there's another approach to managing GMF's current tendency to flood
your inbox. Or any other busy group.

Shal
