Detailed Instructions on How to Conduct a Yahoo Transfer
Folks -- I haven't posted this in 7 days so I'm probably overdue to do so again. My apologies for the inevitable dupes in your email inbox.
Appended below please find detailed instructions on how to conduct a transfer using the Easy Group Transfer method. Other resources: To check status of an ongoing transfer:??/g/GroupManagersForum/message/19948
Overview and instructions WITH SCREENSHOTS:?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups
See also the new FAQ at?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/FAQ-on-Moving-from-Yahoo-Groups
Please note that the way you select an existing transfer for further processing has changed. It used to be a pull-down menu, it is now a list of links. Regards, Bruce Here is the process. It is not fully automated and will take several days.?Do not do anything out of order. The following instructions are for a full-width desktop/laptop display. This can all be done on mobile too, but it's a lot easier if you don't. 0.1 Go here:?/
0.2 At the bottom of the page, you'll find a link that says "Easy Group Transfer." Click it.
0.3 Scroll to the bottom of the subsequent page and click on the big blue button labelled "Yahoo Group Instructions."
0.4 You should be at?/yahootransfer. Read the instructions carefully, including all the Notes. Bookmark this page, too. You will come back here several times.
Most of us have "been there" with this process before and it all sounds easy in hindsight. Ironically, the same thing that's causing most people to abandon Y!G (server downtime) is exactly the same thing most likely to get in the way of completing the transfer process.?The best time to initiate a transfer is when Yahoo is performing well.?If you procrastinate until things are crashing and burning, delays, incomplete transfers, and other such frustrations can be expected. |

I'm interested in inviting 130 people from a group hosted elsewhere to join here, but didn't want to inundate people with a list of 130 email addresses or reveal email addresses to others without their permission. So, how does this work? ?I have a long list of email addresses in the Invite Emails field, but do not want to hit "Send Invitations" until I know what happens! Thanks for any help your can provide! |

Re: Using a separate member profile for a different email address
Thanks Bruce. So if email address A is attached to my actual account. But there's a member slot on the list with email address B (also mine). Couldn't I setup address B on an alias to post, and then the system would send me messages on the same, since it sees that as a member? I'm sure there's a down side to this, but I can't think of it. Obviously I wouldn't be able to do anything via web access, with that B address.

Each email address is its own account. You can set up a secondary email address as an alias for posting purposes only, but all group emails will still be RECEIVED at the primary email address, and only the primary address can be used to log into groups.io. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Removed-for-spamAndrea; it is also worth noting that there is nothing "private" about that guidance. The wiki section on GMF is publicly visible so it might be worth including the URL in a message (Special Notice, even!) so that your members can read it for themselves. Given that "measures in mitigation" are under individual members' control rather than yours this might be the preferred option. You can even copy it into your own wiki if you want, but of course it won't be updated if the GMF original is edited. At the time of writing this it has been revised some 37 times. :) Chris |

But the content of that message contains all references to the original name of the group...etc.Bob -- This is covered in the wiki entry (/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Renaming-a-Group) as the final bullet point under "Some Impacts of Renaming a Group." I suggest re-reading this page to ensure you have detected and remedied all such issues before proceeding further. Renaming a group can create some big problems. Although it's nice to be able to if you really need it, prospective group owners should carefully decide what they want their group to be called from the outset, and not rely on this as a safety net. Advance use

I'm toying with the idea of having a half dozen key users of my site got early access. I'm patiently waiting Last I checked we were about 886th in line.
How do I "enroll" these folks and what email address do they use? Is it as simple as "[email protected]"? Thanks. Lots of really technical questions are being answered here but to me . . .baby steps, baby steps. Eric |

If you want to set up a default time zone for people that join your group, it can be done at Admin>Settings>Default Sub Settings (button at the top of the Settings page). Please note that this is only a default for those who don't already have a groups.io account (i.e.: their account was set up as a result of joining). Re: pending member odd name
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDuane,Thank you.? Okay - so when the person using groups.io@...?posts a message in our group, does that show up on the message or on the email if they post via email?? If they have a display name, would that show up on a message board post and on an email instead? I am not happy about having someone using this site¡¯s domain as their personal name (). I think it will cause mass confusion among our members. Hashtag transfer use
#transfer
Emails on GMF have exploded. I feel sorry for moderators/owners. You guys do a great service for a lot of people. Thanks.
Would it be possible to encourage people to use the #transfer for questions and comments related to new transfers so us? "older" groups can mute this hashtag. And I do know about muting a topic. Ullmang |
