What happens to inactive GIO accounts
I have a subscriber who changed email providers and then realized they had neglected to change the address associated with their GIO account.? They no longer have access to their old email account, and they have never signed in to the GIO website (and hence no saved authentication cookie).
Two questions (my apologies for asking something that has been answered before, but my searches have been unfruitful): Other than resubscribing to their GIO group(s) with their new email address, is there any way they can change the email address associated with their GIO account?? Why is my group being removed? Please read below to see what l wrote back. Why can't I fight it before they remove it? It seems unfair and one sided. If I have shared a scrap kit or tube accidentally that is 'PTU' or 'Do Not Share,' please email me at erotoo1@... and let me know the cost. I will be glad to pay for same. If it is not marked 'PTU' or 'Do Not Share,' there is no way to know that it is a 'Pay To Use' item.

Thankyou all for the very helpful comments - I am now more aware of some of the features available.
I think what I was wanting to address is actually outside of the main system.? It is the reject message sent when a non subscriber tries to post a topic via email. Example reject message: (highlighted text should ideally be removed/changed) This message was created automatically by mail delivery software. Re: How to create a receive-only email address?
#howto
If you're an owner or sufficient level moderator go to your group/Admin/Integrations
The first option is for an email input (integration) point and then Facebook, etc follow further down the page. As you? set up the email point, you will receive an email address that you can send to BUT, each message sent to that point is automatically moderated and must be individually approved -- Bob Bellizzi |
How to create a receive-only email address?
#howto
Hi everyone,
On the webpage of groups.io I have found the information, that it is possible to create a receive-only email address that posts to a group. How can I do that? Thanks in advance. Best, Linda |
Re: Invitation-only group

There is no "Invitation Only" group setting.
However the work around is: Admin-> Settings: scroll down to: "Privacy-> Visibility": set to: "Group not listed in Directory, private messages" "Spam Control": check "Restricted Membership" (Members require approval before being allowed to join the group.) Scoll to bottom of page and click on "Update Group" In Admin-> Settings: click on "Member Notice" create a "Pending Subscription" notice that says: "This is an invitation only group" or "This is an invitation only group - DO NOT TRY TO JOIN IT" You could also say: "send an email to: <[email protected]> and tell us why you want to be invited" or "reply to this message and tell us why you want to be invited" Scoll to bottom of page and click on "Add Notice" If you ignore subscription / "Join Group" requests they expire in 14 days. Additionally to 'help' each Owner or Moderator ignore subscription / "Join Group" requests: Admin-> Members use the Members drop down menu to select Moderators click anywhere on each Owner or Moderator's row (do not check the box) scroll to "Notifications" and be sure the box is unchecked for "Email when there are members needing approval." Scoll to bottom of page and click on "Save" |

Thanks Judy - yes we can stop non members from posting, but they receive an email saying their message has been rejected and, in that email, there is information telling them what to do in order to become a member.? It is the use of these links that cause further work as the non member becomes a pending member awaiting authorisation and we have to delete them.
It would be better for the rejection email to not contain these links. Tony |
Moderator Changing Subscriber's Display Name
In the normal course of events a Subscriber sets or edits their own Display Name, and of course any such action appears in the Activity Log.
Very occasionally a Moderator may have to intervene and set / edit the Display Name on the Subscriber's behalf; the reasons for this do not need to be described here. However, a Moderator setting or editing someone else's D/N does not appear in the activity log, or if it does I have been unable to find the search heading for it. It certainly does not appear under Changed Display Name or Moderator Changed. The question is... should it? Chris |

Notification of file updates
When a new file is uploaded we are given the option of sending a notice to
members, but not when an existing file is updated. Can anyone see a reason why this option should not also be available (as a separate option)? It would be very useful on one of my groups, where updates to existing files are much more frequent than uploading new ones. If no one here can see an objection, I'll raise it on Beta. We are looking into moving to groups.io and note that there is no option to restrict a group to be invite only.? I have found various options to strap down unwanted activity, but would like to suggest a simple addition that would help us and probably others. |

Re: help [members see red X instead of posted images]
Judy,
You can check their Subscription settings via your group's Members page, see the second and third screenshots in Chris' message. In particular the Max Attachment Size setting. You cannot directly check whatever settings the member may have in their email interface, they'd have to report that to you. I don't really expect to find the problem there, but it is possible that the interface is hiding the image? thumbnail for?some reason. Judy,
?
?
?
I doubt it will be any different, given the same posting.
?
I think Chris is on the right track with suspecting that the member's Max Attachment Size setting might be a factor. That would normally operate by removing the attached image and replacing it with a thumbnail-size version of the image, which is a link to the full-size image stored in your group's web pages.
?
Why the thumbnail wouldn't display properly is the question. That could be an issue with the image format or with the settings of the member's email interface.
?
Like Chris, I have a test group, , which you are welcome to join and use to investigate this issue.
