Yes, and I remember all this terminology was a subject in Beta, but I thought it had been fixed. There are various inconsistencies such as the "joined" badge as Marianna pointed out. The NC badge strongly indicates that the person in question isn?t a member yet. And hopefully all this will be corrected one day....

There may be a programmatic reason, but that's just a guess.? A record of a person's choices for a group needs to be created when someone applies and I'm guessing it was easiest (though maybe not best) to just create a member record.? In addition, I've noticed that a person's Joined date/time is actually the date/time they applied on restricted groups, so it makes sense that they're linked somehow.? Hopefully, it can't be too confusing as long as candidates only show up on the Pending Members page.? It's quite possible that this is one of those niggling little things that Mark will tweak 'one day'.

I¡¯ve moderated our neighborhood group (now with more than 900 members) for almost 20 years, and over the years have faced a few threats from disgruntled neighbors. However, the footer at the bottom of every group email includes the following statement: ¡°All messages to this group must be approved by the group moderators, and may be rejected or modified in their sole discretion.¡±? In addition, we wrote a more complete ¡°Group Guidelines¡± Word doc which elaborates on the role of the moderators, and how to use the group, This is provided to every new member to the email group, and is also posted at the top of the Files section on our groups.io website.

I always respond to complaints as respectfully and diplomatically as possible. But in one instance, after a few emails back and forth I finally told the gentleman that the moderators were all volunteers, membership in the neighborhood association and email group is not mandatory, and he is free to unsubscribe or resign if he is so unhappy with our policy decisions.

?

Nothing came of his threats to sue, but the entire incident did upset one of my co-moderators.

This is the case in my groups before an applicant even has confirmed his/her
email-address....
Some time ago I mentioned another inconsistency regarding applicants: the pending member profile page shows the application date as "Joined" (even if the member has not joined the group yet).

Ken makes a very good point; we (i.e. the GMF) have no idea about the reason you wish to reject this person's posts.

We would be far better equipped to comment if we knew what the detail of the problem is; at the moment it is all a bit nebulous.

Why not suggest that if he wants an unmoderated platform for his messages, he¡¯s free to start his own group.?

That'll be because it's the first digest sent to you and your next one will be #2. For the reason Bruce explained above, the digest is tailored based upon each member's mute/following settings.

There is a known error in the search relating to initial and repeating characters and I raised the issue in Beta back in March.? See for details and the workaround using quotes.

Those messages contain system generated hashtags such as #cal-invite, #cal-reminder, #cal-notice and in the most part, I would say, are generated by the system itself so it sort of makes sense that they have the <listname> identifier. If they have the right permissions, one member can put an event on the calendar and list someone else in the Organiser Name field in the event details. Which name would you expect to appear in those cases?? I can't say that I've ever noticed a problem with those names being cached. Do you have specific examples?

I recently changed to digests on a specific group. I noticed it started at digest #1. Surely I'm not the first person to get digests on this group that has been around for a long time. It would appear the numbering is different for each person taking messages in digest form.

When searching the members list (under Admin/Members) I sometimes get extraneous results mixed in with expected results. These extraneous results in no way match the search term.? The search term is usually 3-5 characters (partial name or email address).? Does this search function attempt to guess at what I "meant" to type, or perhaps look for a potential phonetic match?? Is the search applied to anything other than the member's name, display name, or email address?

Another member of the group uploaded a file and that message did not require approval. So, it is only when I (not sure if that's me or the owner of the group) uploads a file that an approval is required.

That seems backwards.

If you have some formal statement about proper behavior and content on the
group, and the objection behavior violates that, you would look even better.
I've seen a few that effectively say the owner/moderators have the last say
and if you don't like that, take it somewhere else. As long as it's clear,
it can fly.
