Re: Export database with images

Duane......
Thanks for your effort.

The idea of the images is that each one is associated with a specific row in the database. ?Is that relationship re-createable in the process you describe? ?If not, then it's not much good to me.

One wonders why if the database offers the option of including images, that it then will not pick up those images to export with the database....in their respective locations. ?Was this maybe the original intent, and there's just a switch gone bad in the code or something?

Re: Searching member list

Mark,

One think I miss though is the ability to search the members list. Or am I just missing something?

Possibly:

On the other hand if you're talking about the group Directory, then no. It is sorely lacking a search box.

To use the Transfer Agent, you must be
either an owner of the Yahoo group, or
a moderator with both the ¡°Invite and add members¡± and ¡°Add, remove, and change moderator privileges¡± privileges.
?
About what you should do - well, if you saw the posts today and yesterday, whether Mark can copy your group to Groups.io depends on whether Yahoo Groups is running properly.

You could try to rescue your posts and even more importantly your member list. And keep hoping that things will be sorted out on YG so that you will have everything transferred.

To get some ideas about possibilities, see #10 and #14.

Mark mentioned in one of his posts that if the invitation is marked as received for more than few hours, you should send another one.? BTW, you can't invite the transfer agent to your GIO group, you'll get an error.

Re: Detailed Instructions on How to Conduct a Yahoo Transfer

Edited

I realize there is now a holdup for transfers from Yahoogroups and I have been reading the GMF and other Group.io forums as diligently as possible. But I am concerned that I have a problem with transfers to two new group.io groups I have set up. I started the process more than a month ago for one group and at least 2 weeks ago for the other (3? maybe). I have gone to check my transfer status and at the top of the page for each of my groups, it says "We've received the invite to your group and will accept it soon. There is no need to send another invite." I have been waiting patiently for several weeks now, but none of the other 4 next steps are visible on my page. I have invited the Transfer Agent to both my old Yahoo and new Groups.io sites, but that address is not showing up in my member list for either. I reinvited the transfer agent yet again today. I am worried that I have missed something or need to do something else or...? And today is the Dec. 1 deadline. Do I need to start manually inviting my 450+ members (and conversations since 1998) or should I just keep being patient? I did pay the Premium yearly when I first started this process in late October/early November, so I am confident that is not the problem. Now, I am worried that I had better start manually moving everything, but that seems overwhelming, especially when i paid for 2 premium memberships already.?Any advice or reassurances?

Re: Upgraded to Premium and THEN saw the notice...

I'm in this same boat.? I've been transferring multiple groups over, so I have the process down.? After going through one on my own that had to wait until the YG service was up and runing again and assisting a co-moderator on another one, I upgraded my third one only to find that the YG service was now down again. My main concern is that I do not lose my data from YG.? I know that YG is giving until the 14th, but I hope I'm not going to be too late for Groups.IO. I know that Groups.IO has been working hard on helping all of us and I was amazed at how quickly both of my other groups transferred so I am holding out hope that it will still work.? I hope that those of us in limbo, having upgraded before 12-1, but now unable to move on to the next step, will still be able to make use of our upgraded groups if things are up and running again prior to the 14th.

I have updated the wiki so you can direct your owner to the instructions there. Membership in GMF is not necessary to see the wiki or the messages. (Actually they are open to anyone.)

Because it might be below something with which you fundamentally disagree. Whatever she says YOU have to accept full responsibility for it and any and all consequences that arise.

OK; I'll admit that something not greatly different occurs on the group I moderate and co - own; sometimes a message will be sent in the owner's "name" and it will have all three names at the bottom, but I would never sign a message pretending to be someone else, and I would strongly object if anyone used my name under a message that they had sent.

Furthermore if I was on the receiving end of a message sent by person A but appearing to be from person B I would not be happy if I discovered the deception, however innocent the underlying reason for it might be.

That except would suggest that this is not the problem. IMHO the best way for Neil to start digging is to set up another subscription for himself using a different email address, with that membership being as an ordinary member. That way he would be able to see what an ordinary member "ought" to see without having to get someone else to interpret what they are seeing and relay it to him. Neil; note that there are caveats to doing this so if in doubt about how to do this just ask...

Duane,

Thanks.? I've been following this thread and it's good to know the images can be downloaded with the database and saved. :)

Why is it not a good idea to sign my name as owner?? Our group is restricted and all memberships must be approved.

Ah, I see. Yes, that is annoying.

So to me this feels like a bug, the country name should be saved permanently just like the rest of the address, shouldn't it?
Seems like it. Bug reports should be sent to [email protected]. Be sure to include the above details.

Re: Can a Message Be Sent from the Owner Address without Identifying the Owner Who Is Posting? #question #messages

You can also send a "note to member" with just the group owner email address.
(Just tested it.)

Go to Members. Select the member.
Go to +Owner Messages button.
Click Reply.
If Note To Member doesn't come up, change to that from the dropdown list.
BCC herself or all mods.
Send.

When the message came to me, it only had the group owner email address.

If it is to reject a message, any owner or moderator can do that. It doesn't give the name of the sender or group email address of the actual sender - just the email address. [email protected]

GMF is very organized and has created several messages to be used for rejecting messages. Use member notices. Plus they can be tweaked before sending. Or do one freeform.

BTW, I would NOT have the owner sign your name. There is no reason to do so and good reasons why not. Just sign your group name.?

It's probably not what you're looking for, but I was able to get the db including images.? I had to use the Export Group Data on the Settings page and choose Databases.? Then wait for the email with the download link to the ZIP file, get that, extract it.? The images are not in the data section, but in their own folder under the database name.? Rather convoluted, but will do for a backup.? It wouldn't allow members to do it though.

Re: Members unable to add photos to new messages

The only way I can determine that anyone would be missing the contents of the format bar is if their Editor Preference is set to something other than HTML. Setting it to Markdown or Plain Text would remove everything on the bar except for the attachment icon.

I would advise them to visit?/account?page=prefs?to check their setting.?
