Re: deleting messages

(Will this happen, or will the attachments stay in storage even though the corresponding message is no longer there?)
I just tested and deleting a topic (or message) deletes the attachment. In Photos, I can see the amount of storage going down after I delete some. Just go to Photos - menu on the left in your group home.

As far a jumping down a list, you can't jump ahead except the small amount displayed but you can change the number of items displayed on the screen. Go to your name in the top right corner. Choose Account, Preferences, change the number for Items per Page. (Some reported problems with infinite scroll.)
Be sure to Update Preferences at the bottom of the page.

I can¡¯t find any way to jump to the oldest message other than change the date order ¡ is that correct?
Just by using the toggle beside word date - the little blue triangle.

Re: deleting messages

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Thank you Frances¡

This is an established groups.io group from back in January 2018.

I know about the messages not counting towards the 1gig allocation. I was hoping that I could delete early messages, thereby deleting any attachments or insertions in them at the same time. There is no point in keeping the messages if the related attachments or insertions are removed anyway.

There are no photo albums, just the folder of images inserted in the emails (and I¡¯ve already attempted to delete those on several previous occasions with problems about clicking on an image to open it does not open the selected photo but opens one or 2 further on. This problem has never been resolved despite a couple of emails to Mark a LONG time ago before the current Yahoo debacle, he didn¡¯t even respond to the last one.

There is no Wiki containing photos, no database¡ all I have are messages with attached and/or inserted images.

The files area is only 84 MB in total, so is not really a problem.

I have looked through this groups Wiki and there is nothing (or I can¡¯t find it) which is helpful to my specific request.

So, once again, do I have to open each message to be able to delete it??

Win, good news! Messages don't count as part of your allowance.

What Is Counted Towards The Storage Limits For My Group?

?

The following are counted towards the storage limits for your group:

?

Files

Photos

Images in databases

Images in wiki pages

Message attachments

Messages themselves are not counted towards the storage limits, only any attachments.

Source:
/static/pricing#what-is-counted-towards-the-storage-limits-for-my-group

Removing content is tedious. If you view messages as topics, it is faster. But only remove old ones with attachments. If you migrated from YahooGroups, attachments weren't migrated.

See 5. What gets transferred using the Transfer Agent?

?

Groups.io can transfer message archives, properly owned and properly threaded, (without attachments, however), photos, files, links and databases. Calendar entries are not copied at this time. Subscribers (members) are also transferred, maintaining their subscription options and ownership of each message and other group content.

Well, that's kinda what happens anyway.

In the online message archive, only the most recent version of a message will display. But if it's been edited, you can click on the blue Edited tag at upper right to show what changes have been made, and when.

As far as emails are concerned, every time a regular subscriber edits a message, it is sent out again to those who are on Individual Emails delivery. If that is objectionable, you need to train people to get their edits right the first time, or simply disable message editing entirely in your settings (Admin>Settings>Message Policies>Disable Editing Messages).

Or if you already have one of his messages open, click open the "More"
hamburger menu at bottom right and select the menu entry with the same name.
Thanks, that worked!

Now that I see it, it looks like he posted a message and then edited
that same message over and over again.

Is there a way to tell the groups.io system to keep only the latest
version of each edited message?

Then they're not owners.? An owner can use any function on a group if it's enabled.

Owner setting for files

We¡¯re finding that group owners can only move or delete their own files. We need to be able to do the same for all files. Is there a setting we¡¯ve missed to enable this? We have some files yahoo wouldn¡¯t let us delete and others that members put in the wrong categories.

Thank you.

They're probably applying from an email address other than the one that got transferred since those automatically became members.? Those people can also sign into their account and change their email address.

Re: Multiple copies of the same message

You didn't quote the part you MIGHT want:
So, you are looking for more information about the sender of the posts?
If you are the owner or the moderator with permissions, you can go to Admin, Members and see their display name, if set, their email address and subscription option they have chosen, and application date.

If you click in the checkbox beside the name, you can activate the dropdown menu.

In that same list, clicking anywhere on the name, email address, etc. opens a useful menu. Their subscription info, etc. but also several buttons - email delivery, notes, etc.
Activity button has more searches, etc.
If you aren't the group owner or a moderator with the permission to see Members in Admin, you can't do this.

I can see all of your messages, starting from your subscription to GMF at 8:26pm this evening.

At that point, the only dropdown menu I see is "Actions", which has in it the options
?? Remove
?? Ban
?? Send Message
?? Change Email Delivery
?? Change Moderation

None of which is the command I need: "Find his Messages."

Re: deleting messages

You might want to ensure you picked the right option for you about?
Go to Admin, Settings. Scroll down to Message Policies. Out of Space gives you some options.?
Delete old attachments is the option I choose, rather than bounce email.

Also from the Plans and Prices page:

?
We send you a warning when you've reached 80% of your storage limit. You can configure your group to either bounce messages when you've reached your storage limit, or to automatically delete old attachments to keep you under the storage limit. Photos and files are never automatically deleted.

deleting messages

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

My group was at 94% of our 1 gig allowance.

I have been deleting attachments as per instructions (very tedious), but via group discussion we decided to delete a large number of messages from the early days, thereby getting rid of the message and attachment at the same time. (Will this happen, or will the attachments stay in storage even though the corresponding message is no longer there?)

I can¡¯t find any way to jump to the oldest message other than change the date order ¡ is that correct?

Can I bulk delete messages, or do I have to open each one, click on More, then click on Delete Message? I want to delete about 2000 messages !!

Keeping my fingers crossed, but I¡¯m not optimistic¡

Win

Re: Multiple copies of the same message

Thank you, Larry, your explanation of why is probably true, but it doesn't answer my question of how to find the messages.? The group in question is busy enough that the messages have scrolled off what the home page shows.

Re: Multiple copies of the same message

Your original question this evening was:
And then what?
I just received 8 copies of what appear to be the same message. ?I've found the poster in the list of members, but there isn't any "More" menu or other useful controls.

In June 2018, Shal wrote:

To look for messages from a specific person find a message from that person and used "All Posts By This Member" in the More menu. Or, find the person in the group's Directory (if available).

Re: Multiple copies of the same message

I posted this under a question asking how to search for messages by author, because that is what I need to do to find out whether the multiple messages really exist in the database (and if so, I want to delete them) or it was just a hiccup by groups.io's sending system.

That earlier question is here: /g/GroupManagersForum/topic/21944638?p=,,,100,0,0,0::relevance,,%23search,100,2,0,21944638,ct=1&ct=1

The answer given there does not work.? Thus my, "And then what?"

Re: Multiple copies of the same message

If the problem repeats, somehow your email address is in the group list multiple times.

If it doesn't repeat, it's likely that a mail server went down (multiple times) and re-sent the same cache each time it was restarted. Twenty years ago this wasn't uncommon at all.
