Message edited with mandatory hashtag added doesn't show up?
#hashtags
³§³Ù¨¦±è³ó²¹²Ô±ð
Hi,
The group settings are "Hashtags Required" and Bounced if hashtag not in the list. After sending a mail to the list without hashtag in the subject, it bounces back, with a link /editsubject/somenumber in the message. So far so good. But from there, after adding a mandatory hashtag (selected from the pull down list), and hitting Update And Send, I have no idea where the message goes. It doesn't shows up in the Pending list or nowhere. I tried everything in the test group without success. What am I doing wrong ? Thank you, ³§³Ù¨¦±è³ó²¹²Ô±ð |

Re: Abusive person, how to get rid of him?
Just to be absolutely clear,? you are not in violation the first amendment. I am one of 2 owners of a group and we researched this subject several months ago. A private group can make whatever rules it wishes around what to allow. This person is perfectly free to start their own group. As a group owner, you are protecting your "constituents" and the interests of the group. Re: Abusive person, how to get rid of him?
Thanks Marv and others!
This abusive person had one agenda that the rest of? us have rejected several years ago. The discussion then was intense, but the opinion of thoughtful people was sought. All of the rest (1000 or so) of us have moved on. But this one person keeps bringing it up. He is polite but the fact that he has signed up with now 5 different usernames tell me a lot. Trouble is that everyone who supported me (Owned and Moderator) in this situation includes his message, and does not delete it. He won't move on because he is in the same "hobby" as the rest of us. The advice to just silence him is good and is working. But now some people say that I am in violation of the First Amendment. Instead of quoting the significant words.......Congress shall? make no law........I just let them go read it so that no discussion on that appears. So silence is best! Richard |

Re: Changing email address
Alan Robbins
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýhi I guess I am a bit confused by the statement. At times, there are necessary reasons one would need to change and email address. At present, I am experiencing one of these reasons. I guess I am on clear as to why if one follows the group protocol to change and email address why it would create an issue. Maybe someone could comment further on this? Thank you for sharing. Re: Concerned about FALSE Pending member/Spammer?
Febe,
I was far more concerned about a new subscriber having access to ourOne technique I've heard of for dealing with this is to use the primary group as a introductory area for new members, and have one or more subgroups for "inner circle" members. This allows you to keep sensitive information (messages, files, etc.) limited to "inner circle" members, while still having useful conversations and content that is less sensitive available to the the general membership of the primary group. Depending on the nature of your group the primary could even be unrestricted membership, while keeping membership in the "inner circle"(s) restricted. Whether this would work for you depends a lot on the nature of the group, and whether there's a natural dividing line between general information and sensitive information, such that it would be easy and obvious for your inner circle members to know where a post or an upload belongs. Re: How long to wait for transfer
#transfer
Chris,
I initiated a transfer of messages from our Yahoo group on Nov 19th.It may be extra delayed due to Mark's vacation on Thanksgiving week. The status says that the transfer is in process and it appears thatIf the status text says that the transfer is in process then you must have already promoted the transfer agent to moderator, and clicked the "Give Go Ahead to Transfer" button. If that's not true then something is confused. You should have previously seen the screen shown at the bottom of Step 2 in GMF's wiki page, that's where the go-ahead button is: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups#Step-2-E28094-Invite-the-Transfer-Agent If both of those are true, and you're at the screen shown at the bottom of Step 4 then there's nothing more you need do but wait for the completion notice. Also, the status page will change to show completion as shown in the Afterward section. If all looks well with the status page I'd suggest giving it a few more days to complete, especially if the Yahoo group has a large amount of content. Sometimes the agent runs into delays or other trouble accessing content from Yahoo. Watch your email for notices, and check the status page every day or so. How long to wait for transfer
#transfer
Hello -?
I initiated a transfer of messages from our Yahoo group on Nov 19th. The status says that the transfer is in process and it appears that the transfer agent accepted the invitation to the Y group since it now shows as a member. I do understand that there is manual intervention required by groups.io. I'm trying to be patient but I'm wondering at what point, if any, I should take additional action. |
Re: Abusive person, how to get rid of him?
I agree. About fifteen years ago I was co-moderator of a group that was a mess. Flame wars, off-topic posts. It was a group devoted to one facet of industrial history in the Northeast, When a thread about the best route to Florida from Chicago (???) turned into a thread about where you used to be able to get the best hot dogs, the owner said ENOUGH!! He told me that we had to clean up the group or he was going to delete it.
Moderation works. And we didn't delete many messages. But when we did it was without any explanation. (That just sets off an argument.) We also discovered that some of the borderline abusive posts lost their edge if we just held them, maybe for 24 hours. Then release them and, no one reacted or cared. The discussion had moved on, the participants were no longer steamed up. The trolls gave up, one by one. We had a few left, one or two, but they were mostly ignored as a boring distraction.? The group became so well-behaved and relevant, a historical society devoted to pretty much the same thing, asked would we be interested in affiliating with them. Become their OFFICIAL message board. Would we be interested? We would! tommy0421 |

Re: Changing email address
Alan,
I have a few groups that I am the owner of and I am subscribe to manyYes. In fact, changing your email address via your Account page is the only way to change your subscribed address. The only thing else you can do is re-subscribe under the new address, but that loses the connection to your content and fails to carry forward your role (owner, moderator), permissions, or subscription options. If your group is Premium a moderator of the group (possibly yourself) can edit your email address from your entry in the Members list of the group, but I'm not certain what ramifications that might have for your other group memberships. It is probably the same as editing it in your Account page, but I'm not 100% certain of that. Re: Changing email address
If you change it on your Account page, it should be changed everyplace.? I haven't done this, so can't guarantee it, but according to the Wiki page here, it should be a snap.? Maybe someone that has can verify before you change it, in case there are any 'gotchas' to watch for.

Changing email address
Alan Robbins
I need to change my email address and have a question. I have a few groups that I am the owner of and I am subscribe to many other groups. My question is when I change my email address will that automatically update to the group so I have created and subscribe to or do I need to go in and manually change that email address in each group I own and each group I am subscribe to?

Re: Gmail Spam Warning on Groups IO messages
Hmph.
Duane wrote: It looks like Mark has a work-around, so you shouldn't see this anyHopefully this is not a harbinger of things to come, but there are indications (from an engineer at Gmail Mark contacted) that it might be. Thus far I've been very happy (as a Gmail user) that they have chosen to accept messages that pass through mailing lists with intact From addresses, using their own Spam detection to override the sending service's DMARC policy. A consequence of Mark's work-around, I no longer see my posts as From "me", they are now from someone named "Shal Farley via Groups.Io", but I suppose that's better than a big yellow warning banner. The threat is that something like this might go into effect for messages posted by other users of Gmail, or messages via Groups.io generally. I would rue that because the work-around mangling of From addresses makes it more inconvenient to copy paste the sender's address if I want to reply privately by email. Should I just delete and re-enter him?Howard -- As Duane and Shal have mentioned, the account/email address you cited could not have been someone who responded to an invitation, otherwise he wouldn't have an NC badge. The purpose of confirmation is to assure that the new member can receive groups.io emails at the address he signed up with. Until he actually responds to either an invitation or the confirmation email the potential subscriber will continue to be unable to participate in any groups. See /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Status-Badges-in-the-Members-List?for further details. As noted in the wiki, Premium groups can bypass this using Direct Add. I find this a very desirable thing, as I don't want anybody joining my group that I am unable to contact offline. At the same time, many people (including me) are reluctant to click on links in emails that seem to have come out of nowhere. If you know this person and want to resolve the impasse, your best option is to contact them offline (telling them it's okay to click on the link), then send a new confirmation email per Shal's instructions.
