Abusive person, how to get rid of him?

I have a person who keeps signing up with different usernames, and trying to discuss topics that are not allowed.
He focuses on me, the Owner and Moderator.
I have put him on the setting of not allowed to post.
I have tried to ban him but I'm not sure I understand the process.
So far he has signed up with five different names, but I can ban all 5 if him.

How to Ban?

Thanks,
Richard

On of my groups is a theme collections group and I don't know how to make the themes for the month print at the bottoms of posts that go through the group automatically. The owner previously did, and I can't ask her.
Go to Admin>Settings>Message Formatting and update the Message Footer.

I also need to advertise the groups to attempt to get more members but I think I just try to join one of the advertising groups and that's it.
See Admin>Promote for other options.

I'm still trying to find a place to learn what all the places are on the group admin pages and all is. Sorry, I don't mean to wear my welcome out here.

Sure wish there was a list 1, 2, 3 and so on of what a newbie making a group needs to know to understand all this.
I suggest you browse the GMF wiki?under Best Practices for Group Management. Lots of topics covered there, and in the system help.

Hope this helps,
Bruce?

Try Direct Adding yourself to the subgroup, or have the Moderator do it.

It is possible for group owners (and moderators with proper permissions) to bulk-delete old topics using topics-test. See??

There is currently no way to do the same with individual messages, or for messages by subscriber.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

P.S. Please note that old emails do not count against the group storage allocation?

Delete multiple emails from a groups site

Cherry Delaney

hello all,
when we moved to groups from yahoo we moved all the old emails and now realize we need to delete outdated emails. I searched for the ones I sent to delete them and it takes three steps to do this for each email with over 1000 emails attributed to me. I looked for a way to edit my email but found no way to delete more than one email at a time. This is too inefficient. Help!

Re: Database

As long as you have permission it is fairly easy in groups.io to create a database

Click on Databases on the left hand side
Click on Create Database
Enter the database name, short description, description
Decide who can view and edit the database and rows
Define each column and its format
Click on Create Table

Another way to create it is to import a csv file if you have a database/spreadsheet already created with the right information. That is another process. You may want to do a search in the GMF messages to find past discussions

Subgroup question about owners and moderators

I am the owner of a group with subgroups, and we have a moderator set up in the main group who can create subgroups.? She just created her first subgroup, and as an owner I thought I should be able to see it. I can direct add a new member and can add her to that subgroup, but it isn't in my list in Your Groups nor in the Subgroups list in main over on the left hand side. I can see it in main/admin/subgroups. Of course I can't verify the settings since I can't get in there, but here is what she was supposed to change:
? ? ? ? ?At Group Title copy the name from the email address directly below
?
At Subgroup Category choose Education
At Member Directory choose Subscribers
At Members Visible choose Owners and Moderators with the correct permissions
At Hide Email Addresses in Archives choose Mask all email addresses in the archives
At Spam Control check Restricted Membership
At Message Policies check Disable No Email
At Reply To choose Group
? ? ? ? At Message Formatting/Allow Attachments choose Bounce

What do we need to modify so that the owners/moderators can see the subgroups?
Thanks
Beth

Re: Delete Messages

I have been using the "-test" parameter in the URL line successfully for some time now. I'd like to see it become a permanent feature.
However, while this works great to delete Topics in bulk, it does Not allow bulk delete of individual messages which I'd prefer.
Sometimes I wish to delete only a select number of messages within a topic en masse.

Some browsers on mobile devices will delete cookies by default. It's a security feature in case it gets lost or stolen. If your subscriber finds this objectionable, he will have to find some way to disable it. For Safari, see??

Ah... I'm not saying it's "normal", not least because I am not an iPhone (or any other type of smartfone) owner.

To get to the bottom of this I think you have to find out exactly what your associate sees at every step of the process, and what they are doing.at every step.?

Let's look at a few possibilities:

  • "Other person" receives test post by email, and tries to reply by email. That should work without any need to log in at all. However, the reply must be from the email address that is registered as belonging to that Groups.io subscriber. (Which is not the same thing as a "group member")

  • "O/P reads test post on the web UI, and tries to reply via web UI. This raises another issue; if the group settings allow non - members to read posts without being logged in, then it might be all too easy to forget that this is a "read only" function and that a reply by web UI requires the device in use to be logged in. MIght be worth checking this.

  • Having logged in and replied, is the "O/P" logging out again, or just closing Groups.io, or perhaps neither?? If logging out then another reply will require a new log in. If the O/P is simply closing Groups.io then the logged - in status should be maintained by cookie, unless for some reason the iPhone isn't storing them. (As stated above I'm not an iPhone owner so I don't know if this could happen.) If "neither" then I am at a loss to understand what is happening.

I think you will have to pin the other person down for more detail about exactly what is seen and done; without that you and the rest of us are just guessing really, and (hopefully!) intelliigent guesswork has its limits.

That suggests that you have run out of storage. Are you a free or paid - for group? That affects the amount of storage you have available. Have a look at both your files and photos sections, if you look in the right places you will find figures for how much space is currently being used.

(I am assuming that you as an individual have "upload files" priviledges.)

Chris

Re: iPhone

Chris, pretty sure it's the latter as you surmise. But why is this normal on the iPhone, to require a new login every time? I'm responding through the Web UI right now on my desktop, and it didn't ask me to log in again. Thanks.

Upload Files button greyed out

For my group LeCroyOwnersGroup I just added a folder and when I attempt to add files to it the upload button is greyed out.

Thank you for looking into this.

Re: Concerned about FALSE Pending member/Spammer?

A big thank you to all who shared their thoughts.

I do have new? subscribers on moderation for their first 4 posts.? And yes, that helps.

But in this case, I didn't let it get that far.? She posted once.?

I was far more concerned about a new subscriber having access to our databases of information..?

But in the end, going with my personal gut reaction was the best course.? Deletion.? And then when I saw her email address return, I hit BAN.

Again, thank you.

Febe :)

I know this may be a stupid question but can you confirm that your friend is attempting to reply by email rather than via the web UI?

If the former then I have no idea what is happening; if the latter then this sounds "normal".

Chris

Digest doesn't open in Samsung client, but opens in GMAIL app; Android 8.1, Samsung J7Pro #email

Hi folks,

I receive the full featured digest for two groups that I don't own. When the digests arrive in my inbox, all looks normal until I go to open them. The header with the digest looks normal but the message box stays blank. This is Samsung's standard email app. I'm using Android 8.1 now.

When I open the same digest with the GMAIL app, no problem. So I have a workaround, but it's a tad inconvenient.

Has anyone else experienced this and is there a fix?

Bart

Is it possible to receive instructions in setting up databases in my google.io group?
Please advise.
