Re: Yahoo Addresses Query

I was able to Print to PDF file the entire Yahoo membership list, so I have a searchable list of everyone. Then I did a separate file for what Yahoo currently lists as bouncing on the group that is being transferred. I'm hoping the transfer takes care of the housekeeping, but I now have a record for Yahoo. I have a much smaller group that Yahoo does not now sort for bounces and is not being transferred. When the transfer group is complete, now have only 43 ahead, I'll invite those from the small group -- if addresses are good and they're still interested, they can join the new group. We don't have thousands, so this may be more doable but does provided a records of Yahoo members and info -- landscape orientation to get it all in correct format.

Re: Groups.io RSS Feed validation? #issue

Hmmm... Yes, it is a private group.? So then it would seem to be a bug here either way, in that I am allowed to view the rss feed in a web browser even though I am not properly authenticated.

That said, even a "public" group like which is viewable in a web browser also fails formatting tests at both and

Re: How long for groups.io to become a member

The problems are two-fold: First, what yahoo "allows" seems to change from hour to hour. What i could do yesterday, I can't do today.? I have no idea what kind of moderator I am, but as I have noted, on some groups I moderate, there are no problems, and on other groups that I own, the same problems are there.

Second, in the case of one group, alas, we have an absentee owner who has been gone for ten years.? We are attempting to track her down, but even if she's willing to help, we know she's moved to a different state and no doubt has a different email and probably has no way to get into the group she owns.? I hope it's not a problem to get my $220 refunded if groups.io can't do the transfer.? I won't be happy if I've lost the money!

Gene -- These are metadata -- placeholders for the information that will be inserted when the invitation is actually sent. Keeping in mind that you can send multiple invitations at once, groups.io will parse each of your entries in the Email Addresses box and populate those fields for you.

For example, if you put "Bruce Bowman <myemail @ domain.net>" in the Email Addresses box, [Name] will be replaced with my name and Invitee email address] will be replaced with myemail @ domain.net.

It will be inserted immediately below the line where it says "The following message was included by [you]." There is no way to replace the boilerplate text already present.

How to complete an invite?

I have a couple of questions about generating an Invite:
- Clicking on Admin/Invite produces a completable form for an invite . ?But, I can't figure how to enter the desired name instead of (Name) nor the email address instead of (Invitee email address) ??
- Will entered text in the Customized Message add it to the form letter or replace it?

Re: I GOOFED! Changed email address and my moderator status disappeared

How do I get the original account I made, back, and as moderator?
Dina; firstly what Bruce has stated could well be true.

However... when you say you changed your email address, what exactly did you do? Your email address is the bit of information that defines your Account with Groups.io, and it is used for all groups held within that account.?

Do you have other memberships of Groups.io with the same (new) address and are they working correctly?
When you say you changed your address was it done by editing your Account?
Did you set up another member as a co - owner and / or a moderator? If so what can they see on the web UI?

I am wondering if the role of owner or moderator is allied to specific email addresses and that if the owner of the email changes that address then the role vanishes with it.

It might be that changing your email back again makes things come good but having said that I'd hang fire until others who might know more have had the chance to comment.

On a wider point I cannot help but recall other GMF members reporting that they had lost ownership of their groups and your report gives rise to the possibility that an owner changing their email address might sacrifice ownership (or the role of moderator) as a result.? If that turned out to be the case then it would have to be seen as a Bug of rather significant proportions rather than a deliberate feature.

Re: Faster transfers (import)

I can confirm as I had some fantastic service at the weekend when I expedited by group transfer shortly after I gave the approval to go (i.e. all pre-steps complete) and it was completed within 1? hours of my request - including 2,300 members and over 19,000 messages plus all files & photos...

Not entirely sure, but I don't think groups.io will send a welcome notice to an unconfirmed address. So I think you have to respond to the confirmation notice first.

Messages can arrive staggered even when sent at the same time, due to delays in intervening mail servers. You really should analyze the message headers to see what's going on. See??for a tool that has worked well to resolve such discrepancies.

Hope this helps,

Are these transferred members from YahooGroups?
No.
Are they members you direct added (Premium or enterprise groups)?
Or are they members you invited?
Neither. It is a "free" group and they are simply new members signing up.
If they sent in a subscribe email (rather than you direct adding or inviting them) to join your restricted group, you can set up a Pending Subscription notice that includes any information that you want them to know about.
Sorry, I see that I made a mistake in nomenclature. By "created Welcome Mail", I actually meant the Pending Subscription Notice. In any case, it does arrive late. I even tried signing up myself as a user to confirm this. The Pending Sub notice arrived 10 minutes after my confirmation mail.

Re: Yahoo Addresses Query

FWIW the only solution I was able to find was a suggestion from one of my group members that after you download 1,000 you go through and delete those 1,000 members from your Y!G so you can then download another 1,000 and they will be different, and repeat as needed. However this is obviously for destructive, and time consuming...

Another option I considered was just a plain text copy of the members page, one page at a time, and paste into notepad or similar and then convert to csv. Again very time consuming.

In the end I expedited my group transfer after 1 day and the team here at GIO had it completed within 1? hours of my request including all members and all messages. Great effort.

Faster transfers (import)

We've seen some suggestions that transfers are going faster (the import part), but Mark made an announcement that verifies it:

James -- Yes, the current behavior of digests is to collapse the top- and bottom-quoted parts. Otherwise the 12 post in a digest can get really long and choke some mail servers (not so much of a problem today as it once was).

Of course, this assumes that the person responding quoted any of the previous message at all.

Is there some setting etc that I can change so that the digest will also have the prior email?
No, but you can intersperse the quoted part with the responses, as I have done here. Such quotes do not collapse.

However, Mozilla won't validate the feed from my group.? I'm using (http://[groupname].groups.io/g/[subgroup]/rss) as a url, which looks like a valid RSS feed to this human, but it fails Thunderbird's validation, as well as those of the two links provided by the original poster above.

Any other suggestions?
Howard -- Look at the subgroup's home page. Does a Feed link appear there, under "Group Information?"

If not, it's probably because your message archive is private. RSS feeds will not validate for private groups, as this would provide a "back door" for those with bad intentions to gain access into your otherwise-hidden messages.

Bruce

P.S. It is not possible to make a private [sub]group public again.?
