Re: Transferring Yahoo group after October 28

Larry,
If you are still recognized as group owner, you can delete messages sent by others. You can use that as a quick test of your management status.

Also, in desktop mode, you can see your list of groups on the left. Your group should show a crown beside the group name in your groups list.when you are logged in.?
Lately I do not see this list with viable links in tablet mode. But in desktop mode it is still there and with all my groups listed and crowns and the links work.

Re: Transferring Yahoo group after October 28

This may not apply to your case, but when I am using my tablet, to get to management settings in Yahoo groups, I have to go to my browser settings and change to desktop mode. In desktop mode, I see all the links generally available on computer. If I change back to mobile, the management link is not available. Make sure you are in desktop modemode rather than mobile or tablet mode.

As far as I understand it right the accounts are merged by the mail address. So there should be no need to restrict the group.

Yes, you can, and probably should, change it to require approval before they become members.? Then you could create a Rejected Subscription notice with an explanation to be sent.? It's not necessary to remove the ones that have joined, but you could and they'd be added back by the transfer.

Judith -- There is no formal Google Drive integration, but yes...you can place a hyperlink that directs people to additional cloud storage anywhere in your group that allows hyperlinks:? Your home page, your wiki, even a pinned message. In fact, this is pretty much how Google Groups handles all their file and photo storage.

To function properly, the hyperlink will have to work for anyone who has the long URL. This is easy enough to set up in Google Drive, but I do recommend that you place such a link somewhere that's inaccessible to non-members.

Bruce

Georg -- I don't like this either, and once made a request on beta to NOT automatically open a draft reply (ref:?). The idea never got much traction, but you could go there and give my idea a bump, or open your own thread on the subject.

The beta group is the official "suggestion box" for groups.io. Although vetting ideas here in GMF first is a good idea, no one in groups.io management reads this forum. So eventually you'll need to post over there to get the attention of someone who can do something about it.

Good luck,
Bruce

Re: View Thread in Digests

George,

This would best be sent to the beta group, as a suggestion. It's possible somebody else has also had the same idea so you'd be adding to the clamour as it were.

I also did this myself.
Please bear in mind you still need to download your membership list from Yahoo Groups manually. That's important.
Also these notes for you:
The photo names in YG may not match the filenames that PG Offline has them saved as, which might be confusing. PG offline does not appear to save the photo descriptions of these photos etc, just the raw files.

I am still waiting for someone to tell me & someone here must know the answer surely.

It's a simple question.

I was also wondering if this photo description text content is saved in the download that Yahoo Groups offers in the Privacy Dashboard download that they're offering at the moment?

Re: When you are in Stage 3

Hi,
So, if everything was collected at Step 2, then anything that is posted or anyone that joins after Step 2 won't get migrated.... That is something I missed somewhere on the journey.

When I saw the amount of groups in front of my group, I though that meant that when we got to Number 1, then that is when the entire process happened...

Given that there are still over 690 groups in front at the moment, our group is still operating and people are still joining, business as usual at present...

I take it I will need to keep track of any new joiners and invite them personally when we transfer.

Thanks
John.

Re: Transferring Yahoo group after October 28

Larry,

Since I already paid it, would it be possible to send the downloads of
the data to groups.io so that they can still do the transfer.
Earlier, it seems ages ago now, it was claimed that Groups.io support would import mbox format files on behalf of people transferring a list from Mailman or other "traditional" mailing list. That was strictly a manual process, and I don't recall hearing a reliable report of it actually being done. I wouldn't expect a positive response during the Yahoo frenzy.

Back to an earlier message:

I received a Yahoo Mail account, and I use it to log into all of my
groups. There are no issues with the email address or password. I can
log into the account. It's just that I have somehow lost my
privileges.
Is there a possibility that you have more than one email address listed in this account, and that the Crown is held by another one? Check for this by clicking on the Membership menu, and see if your email address is in a list you can select from.

The other possibility is that the crown is held by an email address associated with a different Yahoo Account. You can check for that with the Membership Wizard, but only if you know what that email address is and can add it to the Recovery list for this account.

Re: Any Way to Not Block External Messages as Potential Spam? #messages

John,

Can anyone tell me why Groups.io blocks incoming messages from
external submitters and puts them in the Pending queue.
Exactly for the reason your Subject line supposes.

But we would like to be able to have the community emails not held in
the Pending queue.
The only way to have senders recognized as part of your "community" is to have them join the group. "Allow Non Subscribers to Post" means exactly that - anyone in the world.

We would like them to just flow to the group.
You could create an Email Integration and have them post to that address, but it is rather ungainly - intended for use with automated mailings, not human users.

We have a small group that provides advice to our community and only
those responding are members of the group.
People who post as non-subscribers do not receive any group messages. So presumably your group has the "Reply To" option set to "Sender" or "Group and Sender"? I actually haven't tested whether that works for non-subscribers.

Does it matter if community members can see the questions posted by other members, and the replies to them? If not one way to handle this would be to let the community members join the group to post and receive messages. You can set the group's "Default Sub Settings" so that their subscriptions would use the Advanced controls "Following Only" and "Auto-Follow Replies" - that would mean that only their own posts and its replies would be emailed to them. But they could still use the group's web page to see other members' posts, and they could change their subscription to receive All Messages.

If it does matter, another approach would be to allow the community to join the primary group, and make that an Announcement Group so that they cannot post there (but you could use it for general community announcements). Then use a subgroup for the advisors. You can set the subgroup so that primary group members can post to it without moderation, and also set it so that primary group members cannot read its messages. In the subgroup you'd sill need to set Reply To for "Sender" or "Group and Sender" in order for the community member to receive a reply from an advisor.

If you've already paid the $220 Annual Premium, your transfer will work.? If you want it to happen faster, you pay another $200 for the expedite fee.

Yes.? I usually work online, so it's handy to have a signature for each group.? If I used email, it would append the same thing as below when sent to this group.? (I have both enabled on all the groups I'm in, but don't have one set up for some of them.)? If I had a sig in my email client, it would also be there, just above this one.
