If the "missing" message appears in the online message archive, then it should have been sent to those who have the proper subscription settings.

Click on Admin>Members. Pull down the blue "Members" menu at top left and select "Bouncing." If his subscriber record is listed here, then his account is bouncing. Click anywhere on his row to open the record, then click on the Email Delivery History button at the top of the page. Share the error codes with us and maybe we can help further.

If he isn't among the bouncing members, go back to the blue pull-down menu and select "Members." Again find and open the subscriber record. If the subscriber's message delivery is set to No Email or Special Notices, the system is behaving as intended. Change it back to Individual Messages and save changes if you want. Failing that, again click on the Email Delivery History to see if he is having sporadic problems with message delivery, and share the codes with us.?

If you can't find the subscriber record at all, then he isn't subscribed. He may have removed himself unintentionally, or been removed for flagging group messages as spam (see?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Removed-for-spam). You can find out when such a thing may have happened by checking the group's activity log; or if you have a Premium group, by selecting Past members from that same blue pull-down menu and looking up his member record there. ?

It's also possible that you have inadvertently been applying a hashtag with a "no email" or "special" flag set. Try sending your announcements without any hashtags to see if the problem goes away.

I don't have a lot of experience (read: none) with Announcement-only groups, and acknowledge that this is a shotgun approach to the problem. If none of these things work it may be time to contact support.

Good luck,

Re: inconsistent email notification

There is no indication that the message delivery was even attempted.? The problem surfaced when some members mentioned they had not gotten any announcements recently, although one was just sent out a day or so before, and when I looked at the email activity, it shows that the last message sent to the ones who complained was over a month ago, and there have been at least 4-5 messages sent out after that.? I know their email address is valid, since they are getting messages from one of the subgroups they belong to.?

Re: embed group in wordpress

It would appear that groups.io does not allow embedding in an iFrame.? See??for more info.
Mark, the wizard behind groups.io, has decades of experience with this stuff so if he denies this feature he's probably got a good reason for it.? This was put in place in Jan ->?

As far as alternatives, you might email Mark at [email protected] and ask.

Re: Reply offering choice of replying to group or to sender

I had replied before that if you are reading the group messages from your e-mail account and want to reply to sender there are some choices in blue at the bottom of the message. You have to click on the Reply To Sender before typing, cannot do it afterward.
Seems like this is ideal, since it is for a case-by-case option.
I don't understand why you would want all messages, via the settings, to go only to sender.
If everyone did that the Group would have no messages.

I can reply via the group and use the private button, but all my other mail messages are via my e-mail which is really a Yahoo mail. This is the only Group that I read from the Group and respond from the Group.

Re: two different email addresses link to one account

Ron,

What I didn¡¯t understand was I have to set Thunderbird to leave the email on the mail server to see it on my phone too.

You'll be happier (in the long run) if you set up Thunderbird to use the IMAP protocol to fetch from Gmail rather than POP. Your phone uses IMAP protocol and the two will work together better using the same protocol.

As you've seen, the default behavior of POP is to download the message and delete it from the server - meaning that the message is no longer available to your phone. With IMAP both your phone and Thunderbird are looking at the messages as stored on Gmail's server. Changes made by one device are seen by the other.

In Thunderbird, but probably not your phone, you also have "Local Folders" - these are folders of messages stored in your computer, similar to POP folders. You can move or copy messages between server folders and local folders to organize things any way you like (but only folders on Gmail's server will be visible to your phone).

Hope this helps.

embed group in wordpress

I would like to embed the message board of my group into our relevant wordpress website.
I'm trying to use an IFrame, but getting a x-frame-options set to deny.

Is there any alternative?

Martin,

My home computer account I had for years, I¡¯ve only started using a phone email account for a year or so.? I thought I had to use a web browser to use Gmail on my home pc.? After reading up on marlin47 suggestion, to use Thunderbird, I found out I can use Gmail on my phone and my computer using Thunderbird.? What I didn¡¯t understand was I have to set Thunderbird to leave the email on the mail server to see it on my phone too.? It is my mistake, ?I¡¯m not too phone email savvy.

I¡¯m good now thanks,

Yahoo often did a poor job of checking whether group messages were actually delivered, and many of these people may have changed email addresses, etc. So losing a large fraction of your members to bouncing is common, and might be particularly so for an announcement group.?

See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups#Afterward?for more details.

If someone complains, or has posted in your subgroup[s] since the transfer, I would follow up. But group owners often find that a transfer to groups.io provides the added benefit of weeding out the non-participants.

Hope this helps,
Bruce?

Re: inconsistent email notification

Spencer,

I checked the most recent email activity and see that they did get
some notices, but not all.
When they didn't, what was the reason given by their email service?

There's currently a problem with cox.net receiving messages from Groups.io. If they are users of that service, there's nothing you need or can do about it until cox.net straightens it out.

Is there something I am missing or do I have to delete those re-add
them?
That's not really a fix for bouncing email addresses. Whatever is causing the member's email service to reject messages from Groups.io needs to be resolved, otherwise the member will go back on bouncing status.

If the member's situation is corrected while they are still on "bouncing" (blue B) status then the member will likely receive a notice from Groups.io with instructions for returning to normal status. Once the member has gone to "bounced" (red B) status that means Groups.io has given up on automatically sending these "bounce probe" notices; but you can have one sent.

On a related note, is it possible to dump a report showing the most
recent mail message each user has received?
Not that I know of. You can switch your view of the Members list to show only bouncing members, but that list doesn't tell you specifics.

inconsistent email notification

I just migrated about 700 users to a new groups.io site, and the group is setup as an announce only group.? There are several subgroups that people can post ot, but the main group is setup for announce only.? Some users mentioned they were not seeing email notices about new posts, although their subscription settings were set to receive individual messages.? I checked the most recent email activity and see that they did get some notices, but not all.? For one member, I deleted and re-added his membership and that seemed to fix the problem.? I did a spot check and it looks like 200-300 of my users may have the same problem.? Is there something I am missing or do I have to delete those re-add them?? ?On a related note, is it possible to dump a report showing the most recent mail message each user has received?? That would help me locate those that need to be deleted and re-added instead of doing it for everyone.

Re: Mysterious Email Problem

Jim,

As soon as I realized that my periodic re-inviting past members might be construed as Spam, I deleted that list of invited people so I couldn't do that again. I thought when an invite was sent, the person it was sent to could click on a link in the email invite that would tell me they did not want to join. I guess that was my mistake to think that.

I have been in communication with Cox about this, and tomorrow I have a scheduled phone call with a level 2 person to find out what they have been able to do...or not do.

I'll check out the link, and think about your last idea.

Thanks,
Don

Subject tag not pre-pending #bug

I'm not sure if I am just missing a switch somewhere, but my Subject tag is not being pre-pended to the subject line on my posts. The Subject Tag box is filled in with the default of [CRFCRC-Board] and I don't see anything else to check or fill in.

Re: Reply offering choice of replying to group or to sender

Is there any way to enable people using the group via the site, as opposed to by email, to choose either to send a particular message to the group or to sender? Looking under settings I couldn't find a way to offer both these options as an either or by default.
Trista -- Toby and Duane are both correct, assuming you haven't disabled it.

To set it up:

-- Go to Admin>Settings>Message Policies. Using the pull-down menu, set the group default "Reply To" setting to whichever you want (group OR sender, for reasons you've encountered I don't recommend both).
-- UNcheck the "Remove Other Reply Options" checkbox immediately below.
-- Consider scrolling down to Message Formatting and clicking "Force HTML Emails." This is required to ensure all the desired mailto links will appear in every message footer.
-- Scroll to the bottom and click "Update Group."

The group default reply setting (whichever one you established) will be automatically applied if:

-- Via email, the subscriber clicks "Reply" in their email client, or
-- Online, the subscriber clicks the "Reply" button below the original message.?

If a subscriber wants to override this and send a private message in a "reply-to-group" group (or vice versa):

-- Via email, click on the corresponding footer link, or
-- Online, click the "greyed-out" button at lower right of the message editor window to toggle to the other option.

The same problem was reported by one of my members, so I have reported the issue to Support. Mark must have made some change that accidently removed this information (Date/Time stamp) from the Topic view of the Messages.
