This behavior makes groups.io look amateurish to everyone.
My experience of this is when the invited member opts not to click the <accept> link in the email but then goes to the group URL and applies to join. Unsurprisingly, these two activities are not connected by groups.io (but it does beg a question of whether they could be connected...) and so the usual confirmation process has to be gone through.
Look in the acticity log and you will probably see:
| user@email subscribed, via web | 8 |
| Owner invited user@email to subscribe |
If the invitation is accepted you'll see the first line as:
user@email accepted invitation, via web ? ? ? (or possibly via email)?
