The original user has experimented further:

Having dug deeper if I make right click it gives a submenu including 'compose message to' which works but seems unable to include highlighted text (though copy paste is easy).? The similar 'reply to sender' works in the same way.?
The failure to include highlighted? text is as mentioned, but is having to right click to reply a bug?
